@@tedcopp567 sure mate. So in my experience you have 3 regiments that are commando trained that are primarily from the Army. First you have the Logisitc Support Squadron (RLC cap badge) You have 24 Commando Royal Engineers And 29 commando Royal artillery Those 3 units are British Army soldiers who have completed the All Arms Commando training that allows them to operate alongside the Royal Marines. The Army commandos primary role is to fill in the gaps the Navy cannot provide themselves. So for myself, I joined the Army, completed training then proceeded on the all arms commando course. On completion you can wear a green barret but with your cap badge. So you work with the Marines, but are not a Royal marine. You also get similar roles within the Army who complete their airborne training (p reg) who then support the Para's on operations

Takes me back to Northern Wind 2019, a big exercise in northern Sweden with Sweden and Finland on one side and Norway, Britain and US troops on the opposing side. I was in a Swedish armored recon platoon, and we were traveling along a road in the CV90 at night to set up positions to watch their troops from. All of a sudden we stopped. Turned out we had come upon a bunch of royal marines skiing along the road at night (which we were explicitly told not to do, due to the risk of being seen haha). At first there was some questions as to whether we could capture them as it was still just in the beginning stages of the exercise. One of their soldiers were running up along our column, and I opened up my hatch on the gunner side of the CV90 and asked him whether he was British. "Yes", he responded. I smiled at him and asked, "Can we capture you?" he smiled back and asked, "What are you even going to do with us?" I shrugged and said "I don't know!" and we both laughed. He then asked me what we were up to and I told him we were just on a supply run ;) It was all in good fun, good times.

I remember walking into a careers office in the 90's. I had put on a tie and was open minded. The Army rep stayed seated and tossed an insult about my recognition skills. My mind closed. I said it was nice to meet him, but he needn't stand as I was hear to see the Navy; which was quite clearly the senior service. My mercenary instinct led me to offshore oil during that part of my life. I have always remembered the small size, but commitment of the marine rep. In '90, I finally was able to deploy, but before we shipped out, some a-hole in Iraq decided it was a good time to invade Kuwait and our entire brigade got diverted to the Persian Gulf for what became Desert Shield and later Desert Storm. "If you think this is cold, wait till you get to Norway", I wonder if the lads still hear that today ! Did my first Norway in `84 at based at Elver G, (the windy city) My first lived example of a katabatic wind. How thoughtful of our friends in the EU to build it there on their world tour back in 1940. Back in the 80`s, Four Two and Four Five were doing thirteen weeks up there every year. The knowledge base in the Corps was huge at the time . I loved it, the arctic has a pity-less beauty common to many desert environs. Extremely satisfying to meet the challenges and more than that, eventually to excel at them. Down here in oz the survival problems faced in our huge deserts are quite similar, which at first may seem counter-intuitive. Water, shelter and mobility. And without the requisite skillset, you will not last very long in either environment. I have a few oppos who settled in Norway and one lives right up at the top. I moved to Western Australia twenty years back and at times, we both have the same daytime temp of 40 degrees C. Except mine has a + in front and his has a - !

Phenomenal guys. Really great to see that the Royal Marines is sticking with a single image to portray exactly what they do as commandos, instead of some the legacy stuff that had no mention of operations but instead: it was all about fun and games. Well, all I can say is, there was no messing around there - mature, operationally motivated people that are clearly determined to maximise their effect as commandos. As the Commanding Officer rightly said at the end, being employed as commandos behind enemy lines in small teams must be a genuinely exciting prospect, acting as a force multiplier and a thorn in the side of any adversary.

Great Filmmaking and Soundesign, a lot of other state organizations should watch this and learn from it instead of pushing out promo videos that look like from the early 2000s. Good job!

I'm convinced the Royal Marines are the best trained fighting force in the world. I just love how they operate and have totally adapted on ALL fronts of the modern battle space. The US could really learn so much from these dudes. Anyway, I would be honored to fight along side the RMC. Much respect from a US Marine.

just because they may be better than US forces, does not make them "the best fighting force in the world" lol. I know its hard for you guys to comprehend the fact that the world has over 190 countries.....but try.

@@rohitb5834 It is not just the training that makes Royal Marine Commandos. It is their history and experience that cannot be bought or trained and is earned.

If I had a chance to do life over again, I’d want to fulfil my dream of joining the UK military. I’m too old and unfit now and due to personal issues I was never able to do it. Still think about it to this day. This video is top notch and really shows just how capable the RM are, and not to underestimate them just because of their small numbers. The production on this video is way above all the other branches of the UK armed forces as well which I hope gets people fired up to join.
