That last photo of her. In a tartan skirt, in a cozy cashmere sweater. This was the Queen as she wanted to be. A quiet country life, revolving around family, horses , her dogs and outdoor life. Yet out of almost unimaginable reserves a sense of duty bound her to be Queen, with all the demands and formality that entailed. And she did it all without complaint or whine. No, we will not see her like again.

God rest her. She made a difference in my life, and I am American. She was always someone to look up to. She conducted herself so beautifully. She had such honor and grace. May she know the peace of Christ.

This was an excellent and thoughtful conversation. Your point about people staying in power past when it’s wise. Richard makes an excellent point about not up to sitting at a desk really highlights her inability to carry on. We have this problem in the US government of people being allowed to stay in office with dementia and past a reasonable old age. I get people feeling a duty to carry on and do the work, but at whose cost? There are other people who can take up the office and duties. Now you’re going to have a 73 y/o king, when you have a 40 y/o William, that easily could take on that role. Let’s hope King Charles is able to pass the crown onto his eldest son while he’s still alive. RIP Queen Elizabeth and thank you for your historic 70 years of service.☮️❤️🇬🇧💙💜👑

I feel so sad for the family, especially Charles who was denied a proper childhood because the Queen was grieving for her father and assuming the responsibilities of State. His younger siblings and her grandchildren were in a better position in their relationship with her as she had his support as the Prince of Wales. I remember seeing an interview with him when he replied to a question about becoming King by saying it would be the worst day of his life because it would be when his mother died. So very sad.

I really hope she lives a while longer, it would be sad for her to go while Europe is at war (admitting it or not) the USA is falling apart and her grandson is trying to destroy her legacy. I really hope she stays a little longer when things are somewhat peaceful.

I can’t stop crying. I know she was 96 and had experienced an amazing life. They say into every life a little rain must fall but I hope she passed peacefully and was not troubled by some of the difficulties she had to endure.

I think Queen Elizabeth wanted to carry out her duty with the new PM as her last act because she was so devoted to serving to the end. May she rest in peace.

My family was so nice to leave plenty of information tracing them back to England on my Father's side and Scotland on my Mothers. I'm 70 and got an emotional call from my friend this AM. Seems perhaps a silly for us Americans to have such strong feelings but Her Majesty has been a fixture in our lives since birth and at a time like this you realize that many of us Americans are really just your long lost British cousins.
