There is no need to denigrate and humiliate people on national TV, some obscure tapes from a „speech coach“ or in a book. No decent person would do such a thing just for the sake of public sympathy. I used to be an ardent Diana fan, but she completely lost me after the Morton book. Because it was as clear as day that SHE was behind it, despite her initial denial.

Not so easy when you are being thaught from an early age that the first and most important reason for your existence is to become king and serve your country. This also included finding a suitable future queen - not necessarily a suitable wife for himself. In the seventies, the royal family was still haunted by the abdication crisis of the thirties. No wonder Charles didn't want to hurt his parents by repeating history. It took him several decades to finally stand his ground and make it clear that Camilla was not "negotiable". I believe all of this would no longer be an issue if Diana hadn't died so young. As with many people who die young, myths have been created that have little or nothing to do with the real person. A living Diana would never have been put on a pedestal, her popularity would probably have faded, the first signs of this were already evident at the time of her death. But Charles and Camilla have stepped out of her shadow, and I am happy for them.
