Definitely not. Ronaldinho was a great player but in 04/05 he was not at his peak and slightly fortunate to win the Balon D'or. He was not even the best midfielder at Barcelona - Deco was better and Eto was their best player. As great as Ronaldinho was - this was his most overrated Barca season easily and his worst except his exodus year. What did he do? Scored barely any goals - contrary to popular belief he was mediocre in the Champions League - and sent home by Joe Cole/Lampard after scoring 2 deflected goals. I mean the guy got less than 10 domestic goals this season I believe- take the penalties away and it was terrible. Compare that to Rivaldo an attacking midfielder who would get 20+ for Barca - yes he played as a forward too. Or Luis Figo in 99/00 & 00/01 (yes he is a winger) who was breaking the assists record. Or Maradona at Barca or Sevilla. Zidane in 02/03 was just sublime. Yes Ronaldinho was good but this was a media hype season and not his prime. He was a mere mortal just like others.

He clearly deserved the Ballon d’or in that year, this thing shouldn’t even be a debate… I agree with you, he scored barely any goals during that season, I expected him to score more solo goals but he was still extremely decisive and that doesn’t mean that season was worse than 06/07 where he broke his record of goals in LaLiga, because if we follow your logic 06/07 is better than 03/04 and 05/06 which is an absolute nonsense. By watching the UCL 2005, I can tell you he wasn’t mediocre, losing a game doesn’t make you mediocre lol Finally, you mentioned some players who have good stats in a specific season, cool but having better stats =/= better player. Finally, 04/05 wasn’t a media hype season, you are the only person who thinks this way.

@@cvcgghvghjk you’re very spot on but i would like to clarify that i meant Ronaldinho’s prime which spanned 3 seasons, not even 04/05 necessarily. 05/06 was arguably his *prime* single season, just had a shitty WC!

@@chuka6625 Well, for me his prime was in his two first years at Barça, 05/06 was also a GOAT level season but he had better teammates than the previous season and there was more chemistry in the team so he could easily carry the whole team in UCL and LaLiga. 03/04 had the potential to be a better season if he wasn’t injured, he truly was an unstoppable magical beast in the second half of the season and he also carried the team in many matches. 04/05 was simply unreal, it was without a doubt his best Brazil and dribbling year, I forgot how really good he was during that season, he seems to do less work in the midfield compared to the 2 other seasons but still extremely decisive, by rewatching some performances I can see why some fans say it’s his best season. If I’m objective, for Barça : 03/04 > 05/06 >= 04/05 For Brazil : 04/05 >> 03/04 >>> 05/06

@@cvcgghvghjk i hear ya. it’s the same way 2019/20 was KDB’s prime individually but the treble winning year was his “biggest” - both had freak seasons but history will always associate their primes with their most successful years, trophy and G/A wise.

His career didn't fizzle out because he lost power and pace, it fizzled out because he liked the party lifestyle and the women too much. That's something that simply cannot co-exist with being a focused athlete. In my opinion, Ronaldinho was better than Messi, nobody is ever going to convince me otherwise. Ronaldinho was just too gifted for his own good to the point he probably felt he didn't need to prove anything to anyone and he cut his own career short.
