HST came to my college on a speaking tour in 1979. He appeared to be sober but was virtually unintelligible for the entire hour. He tried to tell a joke in his mumbling monotone but it was impossible to understand him. Still, a fkn legend in print!

Dude that's insane. What was life like in the 70s? Also was it really that unintelligible or maybe his microphone did him injustice

If you watch video clips of HST, especially as he got older, e.g., his Letterman appearances, he progressively becomes more difficult to understand. He drank whiskey and smoked some weed with us later that night but his behavior and speaking cadence didn’t change. He just mumbles a lot.

@@euckb It's very interesting how today's media is in many ways a lot more sanitized than it used to be. For example, most videos released on KZfaq are heavily censored. Every video is automatically screened and if they're found to contain anything at all that KZfaq's robots don't consider "family friendly", they are instantly demonetized (i.e. the uploader won't receive any money). It could be words like "fuck" or "shit", sensitive topics (like sex or drugs), etc. It's actually quite disturbing and dystopic in my opinion.

I think Glenn Jacobson (panelist #1) was married to Janice Pennington, a model who was one-half of the group, The Models. The Models recorded a psychedelicized version of "Bend Me, Shape Me," which was later a hit for the American Breed. Janice Pennington later posed in Playboy in the 1970s, but she had a much longer career as one of "Barker's Beauties" on the Price Is Right.

Hunter, why did you choose to leave on a day that people now connect with grunge boy??!! Please dont put the 2 together in any serious conversation, people!

Really! Thank you! Thompson was much more refined and interesting of a person and certainly more accomplished overall! Who would be most entertaining to hang with? Either Thompson or Dave Grohl imho...
