Doing my back pasture today. Has not had water on it for a few years. Gonna try first with the tiller but may have to plow it with the box blade first. THANK YOU for this video. I have the same exact rig.

Good video. I've got a Frontier Rt1149 also. Tilled up 3 acres of unworked very hard ground already, no issues at all. Just takes awhile cause you need to go over it 2 or 3 times but looks great, Planted 4,500 Christmas Trees & Canola. Also make sure you take it out of the ground all the way on turns.

Would it help to plow first? Say with single plow

i till with 8ft tiller behind john deere 4430,,,first i break with breaking plow about 8 inches deep then let it sit for 5 or so weeks then hit it with tiller and go slow 5 or 6 inches deep,,,,works very well,,,,,do it again next spring

I enjoyed the video. From my experience using a rear tine 8HP Troy Bilt tiller over many years, the closer you cut the grass to the ground, the easier that first pass will be... It’s still going to be rough... Just less rough. I agree with other posts that a light first pass also will be less rough and less stress on the equipment.

Never an easy process breaking new ground, especially when it is bone dry and rock hard the way it looks. It will take time , but you will get the desired result eventually. I have done this with a walk behind front tine tearing up sod at a house i bought 25 years ago. It took forever but i got it done. Pto tillers are the only way to go for a large area.:)

I have a Honda FRC 800. If I try breaking up sod in a field the tines rip the machine at a high rate if speed and it will yank you off your feet. Lesson learned the hard way

I've tilled without plowing and it beats up the tiller, nice of you to sacrifice for another tuber. Tell the gentleman a mid buster is cheap and will save his tiller. good video
@austinfoster6007
@austinfoster6007 3 жыл бұрын
The middle buster is honestly too big for a 1025r as far as hight and pull from the ground. You should have seen the rocks I moved and the ground I tilled last night. One was 1000lbs. My tiller does well. The slip clutch definitely helps.

Interesting you say that. I middle busted a field last weekend and I thought what pain in the butt. I plan on tilling that busted field and tilling an unbusted field this weekend.

Would you recommend this tiller over the Deere 647 tiller? The 647 is a little more money, both 4ft.

Great video! Just curious, how much did you pay for the RT1149? I’m thinking about getting one. Thank you in advance.

I'd raise the RPMs a smidge and lower the ground speed by the same amount.

To prolong your equipment in that situstion,make a light first pass.
@ElkCreekAcres

I agree, also, if you lift the rear gate on the first pass that will allow the material to be thrown out the back. Then make a second pass with the gate down and have at it, much better results and much easier on the equipment.

Newbie here curious on the meaning "plow first"? How would one plow a field? 🤔
@austinfoster6007
@austinfoster6007 3 жыл бұрын
A bottom plow is old technology for turning sod. #1 a Sub compact is to small for most plows. #2 a sub compact is to small for most middle busters too which was also in the comments. I feel if your going slow in normal sod you are fine tilling. I did it because a customer of mine asked how it would preform. And alot of people are expressing thier opinions on that. I am using it on did on farm land and going slow. I didn't think it would be a issue and I am going to continue to till with it. I think it did a pretty good job and that was the point of it so I guess that's a win.

Tillage not designed to drop directly in ground will eventually destroy it must always plow or all purpose plow or disk like they used to turn over if fall let freeze out have a better garden yield next year not to many old farmers any more new generation of farmers. I want sell a tiller to customer if there not going to loosen ground up first new generation really y don't no if you do it like you should gave a better garden yield papaw already prettiest and biggest vegetables they did it right gad to first time what they are in winter

I’d recommend a much slower forward speed - will result in a much better job and not as hard on the tiller.

The first pass I just chop it up. Then the second pas I dig deeper and the 3rd pass I slow down to finish...works well

You level horizontally? If that's the case check the 3 point hitch. There is usually some adjustment there to tilt it up or down.
