USPS has a laundry list of problems right now, and a lot of it has been inflicted by Congress or its leadership. A few small changes and they’d be fine.
@Master_WannaBe_
@Master_WannaBe_ 3 жыл бұрын
It loses money because the USPS is required to fund numerous benefit programs for their employees AND give their employees great pay checks. It’s great if you work for them, but the entire service loses money because it’s not making enough revenue to keep up with their requirements to pay employees and give them good benefits. They can’t cut staff to ease their financial burden or else they risk slowing down the delivery of mail, it’s a lose lose situation for USPS.
@BrightNightmares

Then they should up their prices to cover those pay checks?

The USPS isnt a hot mess because they pay their employees too much. In fact the apathy leads me to believe the opposite. Your package/mail int getting delivered because of the guy physically delivering the package/mail not the admins stressing over financials.

They're required to find numerous benefit programs FOR THE NEXT 75 YEARS. No private company has to do this, only our govt service. They can't raise prices to fund it. Blame Congress and Louis dejoy for sabotaging our postal service, the same postal service that handles mail-in election ballots. Crippling the USPS means crippling our elections, that's why it sucks.

As someone who works for a small wholesale business I completely agree!!! We constantly have to replace/remake orders that USPS has delivered to the wrong place or just lost entirely. We never have this issue with UPS or FedEx but with UPS it happens every other week.

For anyone wondering the reason why the Post Office "loses" all that money is because it's the Postal SERVICE. It's meant to be a government provided service so that anyone and everyone in the USA can send and deliver mail, paid for mostly by taxes. It has never been intended for them to be a money maker. The entire reason why the Post is so unreliable now is that the senate passed a bullshit bill requiring the Post to essentially be earning money despite being a government funded service which has then gutted the ability of the Post to do their jobs.

A lot of people in my area have PO boxes cause we don't trust stuff being sent to our mailboxes. Our mailboxes are often on the main road instead of outside our house (small town in a forest) and the person will sometimes just leave packages at the mailboxes or even on the ground if they don't fit. So many people have had items stolen because of that. Side note, some places won't ship to PO boxes and its a huge pain. I have no clue what people in the next town over do. They all have PO boxes cause USPS doesn't deliver any mail at all. Their post office is just a building for the PO boxes.

The trick with Amazon is to use your oldest or busiest account. If your dad hardly ever orders anything than use yours or someone's else's account that's used all of the time. I had a $3,000 order that was shipped to the wrong address by my mistake, and the Amazon employee said they'll cover the 3k no issue whatsoever. I told him that's a big relief off my shoulders and he went on to talk about how active/long my account was in use, so it's no big deal. He told me there'd be issues if it was a new account. That's my first major Amazon purchase too even though I had it active for 6 years at that time.

They are basically not allowed to make a profit. They’re shipping rates are capped by law which is why they are much much cheaper then competitors. Honestly think it’s a fine service to subsidize as they are able to deliver to more locations then any other service seeing as they don’t have to make a profit and mail can be incredibly important for stuff like prescription drug deliveries.

They aren't great However Does Gus understand that they are a government organization, and not a private business? (Gus-"how are they still in business") Their existence is to be CHEAP mail delivery. The option for those who can't afford to rush delivery with UPS or other delivery companies. Government organizations tend to be shit because the law often will not allow you to sue or force legal action. Even if you do, they aren't going out of business because it's the government. You need a coup or huge legislation to get rid of them.
