In Canada, Grade 3 students take an IQ test and those who exceed a certain threshold undergo psychological testing . Those who perform in the top 2% are classified as gifted. However, statistics show that gifted students' achievements in adulthood are no different from those of the general public. As we all know, achievement arises from much more than IQ. More important factors include effort, personality, family background and support, socioeconomic background -- and, last but not least, luck. So my advice to gifted kids is: don't take the 'gifted' classification so seriously, don't act like you're better than your peers, and don't think it. Instead, help others with your gift. You'll make more friends and be happier.
As a gifted child parent, most impressed experience is school teachers don't know how to handle gifted kids, some even denied to accept gifted students. Even after we provided psychological test result and reference letters, they still denied and try to persuade our kid are in psychiatric problem! The government, if really wants to nurture more gifted kids, then have to put more resources in training teachers.

I was a student at HKAGE when I was in high school but no people think I am gifted. Even I don’t think myself is gifted.
