The annoying thing is the people in the comments who say that he’s trolling. He’s done this in multiple series’. In MHA it was Kirishima, in Naruto it was Kakashi, and now in One Piece, it’s Zoro. One of the most hyped and best animated episodes in all of One Piece yet Rob had to ruin the mood just because Zoro defeated King who’s black. At least Wellz, Jerry, and Pat were all hyped asf. ‘’This episode made me realize I’ve never seen black representation in this show’’ So we’re forgetting Usopp, Blackbeard, Daz Bones, Kuma, Brook(possibly) and Aokiji who are all black? C’mon Rob your trolling is getting too obvious at this point. Just drop the character already and enjoy the episodes smh.

Half of those you listed are barely shown or not even shown at all. Ussop became irrelevant and annoying as hell, Blackbeard is black? Daz Bones is nonexistent after the alabasta arc like what did bro do after that arc. Kuma is cool, but barely shown, Can’t count Brook since even you yourself don’t even know he’s black, Aokiji is cool but we barely even see bro. King was the coolest black character we seen in one piece but after this arc the dude is irrelevant which sucks. Also even if you don’t agree with me, the fact you really only listed 4 other black characters and only two of them are cool but still barely shown, (Blackbeard and brook, we don’t even know if their really black) proves Robs point. Rob trolls a lot but he clearly not putting up a act here, he gets hype every time a black character shows up in anime, he clearly feels a certain way about representation.

You have to understand that all anime in general is made in Japan. Japan, the country itself, isn’t as diverse as than the states. Considering that fact, for anime like One Piece still providing diverse cultural characters , it is very much appreciated. King is a good representation of a rare, badass character that One Piece introduced and it doesn’t matter if he lost. He still put up a show for us and still holds high respect amongst the viewers.

Zoro is a dark skinned man as well, so is Luffy, so are lots of people who are tanned/darken tanned skin. Rob acting like Killer Bee and Yourichi is a better description of a black character than King, Blackbeard, or Aokoji. Killer Bee who is stereotyped to rap just cause he is black, so that makes him a cool character. Then Yourichi who is basically showing off her body for 80% of the show. King is one of the best-looking black characters I have seen in any anime and has an amazing backstory compared to Yourichi or killer bee. Unlike other anime, the characters in one piece play an important role in the whole story in their unique way. One piece literally had a whole arc about racism in fishman island and continues to represent people like Bon Clay other anime can't. I can tell he wasn't paying attention to the fight but was looking for something to nitpick to complain about. 😂

Aokiji has afro puffs as a hair style, Yasaku Matsude has curly hair, but does not rock that hairstyle and probably couldn't even if he wanted to. Just bc a character is inspired by a real person, that doesn't make them that person's race or ethnicity. Look at Muzan from Demon slayer; he's very clearly inspired by Michael Jackson, but he's japanese in that show.

Kaido, Black Beard, Kuma, MR. 1, Pica, natives of Shandia, Aokiji, all the Fishmen, Diamond Jozu, Green Bull, Dragon, they are all from other races (most of them are "dominant" characters like Rob said) and Rob wanna talk about race. And, if it wasn't obvious enough, King is from a persecuted race, he was not hiding just his colour, it's smart of him not attract the WG attetion. He contradicts himself, he wants a badass character, design in a certain way, but it has to be a character that don't lose cause then it's a lack of respect. I get the point of more black characters but he has to understand how many different races there are in One Piece.

@Dio-xo9rv I imagine he's talking about characters like Sado or Killer Bee, Oda is used to color his black characters in light brown skin tone and that can be confusing, so I am just guessing that Rob wants to see a "blacker" character that is not just there to lose. But like you said, it's Oda story, it's not about representing black people in a opressed way, cause skin color is not used in this context here, races are opressed and Luffy usually wants to help them, and they are not weak.

So one isn’t enough for Rob, but he can just repeat Killer B’s name? Aokiji is on par if not more impactful than Killer B especially if you read the manga. And on top of that throwing out the there are others from the Cloud isn’t a sufficient response when they all weren’t on Killer B’s level and One Piece has impactful black people integral to the show - Black Beard, Usopp (who is one of the best written character from a narrative level), Kuma (especially in the manga), Brook is Australian (very clearly indigenous), and all of the fish men (who are the embodiment of civil rights, anti-hate messaging, anti-slavery, and people forget colorism as well) One Piece has very good representation. It’s hypocritical for Rob to in one instance praise Ora’s writing and how he vehemently condemn slavery, racism, and hate and then tee off because he doesn’t like Zoro. There cap in your rap.

If rob was hating on zoro for 1000 episodes, his take would have more weight. King was easily the coolest black character in the show. But that doesn’t mean that their hasn’t been representation. One of the 3 strongest soldiers in the navy was a black man who solo’d the straw hats early on. Crazy take.

The potential main antagonist, Blackbeard, is even black. Hell, Usopp is black and he’s been a part of the crew since like episode 8. I have no clue what Rob was on. Exactly. Japanese anime is under no obligation to “represent” him in any way. It is Japanese artists, in a Japanese country writing for a Japanese audience often involving Japanese culture/folklore/mythology/pop culture. If he and any other moron who wants to lecture anime creators about representation, they need to look to their own country and people if they want that. You want to see see yourself in a certain way, then go make it yourself. But what you aren’t going to do is bully great story tellers like Oda into shoehorning you into the story because you feel left out of it.

Also, if thats whats important to you about the shows you're watching, then you dont know what good writing is. Whats most important is the character, not their skin color. The fact that you are so upset about his reveal is childish. His skin color is only important to show his race. Other than that, it has no effect on his character or development. Toei DELIVERED!! I preferred 1061 because of the direction, choreography, writing (the culmination of Sanji's WCI plot) and Ota's amazing scene but both were perfect and that sequence of Zoro vs King is one of the better animated pieces in media.
