Thumbnail Generation: the RTX2080Ti is 25% faster at generating thumbnails (edit tab) on a complex timeline compared to the 1080Ti.
Dropped Frames: the RTX2080Ti dropped 77% less frames than the 1080Ti. (Red, BM DNG, BM raw, XAVCS, GoPro, ProRes - with complex grades)
Render Times: the RTX2080Ti is 5% faster at rendering (Red, BM DNG, BM raw, XAVCS, GoPro, ProRes - with complex grades)
Scrubbing the Timeline: The RTX2080Ti scrubbed the BM raw and BM DNG 'a bit better' than the 1080Ti. (Didn't notice any difference with the RED, GoPRo, XAVCS and ProRes footage)
Stabilization: the RTX2080Ti is 25% faster at stabilizing footage.

Apparently NVLink won't double your VRAM with RTX cards. According to Pugen systems, it works just like SLI bridge, meaning that only one card's ram will be used. The way I understand it is that doubling gpu ram only works with proffessional grade cards such as Titan and Quaddro. It could be that Nvidia is purposly locking this down to not cannibalise their pro cards.

Great video! I've got two GTX 1070s on Resolve and I work with 1080p Prores from my URSA Mini most of the time. Render speed to KZfaq and Bluray ready is 170fps after grading on average. That's a massive leap compared to Premiere.

Nvlink or Sli does not double memory. The link makes both cards run in tandem. Thus both cards are doing the same work and alternating output to improve performance.

According to Pugetsystems the RTX 2070 gives 1080 Ti performance plus tensor cores. That's probably the best price to performance GPU which is also future proof. There are two comparisons I would be very interested in seeing, and I suspect many other people would as well. The first is the new Quick Sync feature in Resolve Studio 15.2. This allows for considerably faster export times for normal Core-series Intel CPUs. It would be great to see how these compare to a pure workstation CPU like yours. The other test would be a comparison with a regular 5K iMac (non-Pro). From Max Yuryev's testing, one can see that Macs offer considerably faster export times in Resolve than Windows PCs with higher specs. It would be great to see how the overall editing experience of a 2017 5K iMac compares to your workstation PC.

I agree with the 2070 performance being the same, however what about that 11GB of VRAM you get in the 1080 TI? Won't that be beneficial when rendering heavily colored / NR sequences?

I was told point-blank at NAB that Resolve does not support NVLink. It will snap back and forth between the two cards erratically and may actually create instability, especially in timeline load management. I edit pretty heavy footage daily myself and would love to have a solution for VRAM that doesn't require the jump into quad but I don't see it happening anytime soon. Please, someone, inform me that I am incorrect. Id really love to be wrong here! :)

There are many potential use cases that have already been demonstrated by Nvidia. They could be used for creating interpolated slow-motion, they could be used for noise reduction, and they could be used for tracking. How good will the implementation be in actual software? IDK

Ray tracing cores and Tensor cors are separate. The tensor cores are made to accelerate machine learning applications (www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=titan-rtx-linux&num=2) There's a giant leap in performance over a 1080 Ti when using the tensor cores (not so much when not in use).

Resolve has a drop frame indicator. The currently played back FPS number is displayed over the playback window. If the dot is green you're ok but if it's red you are dropping frames. It won't count how many times you dropped frames though.

nvlink or SLI isn't typically required for multiple GPU support outside gaming (a bridge can be something you want to avoid if you're working with your computer). I will be using quite a bit of TNR and OFX...Do you think the 2080 will be better than the 1080TI, or the 11GB of the 1080TI will be more helpful?

Then you need to ask yourself how smoother is a 1080Ti compared to a 350$ 1070 :p? Is the 1080Ti worth the few %? Come on, be reasonable, let's grade with a 1050. The 2080Ti is as expenssive as it is more powerful than the Ti. The price isn't right but it's not fair to say the 1080Ti is a good deal. It was one year ago at 750$; not now, the 2070 is a much better deal. Obviously there's no urge to change graphics between two generations :)

@cubdukat
@cubdukat 5 жыл бұрын
But if you're grading with a 1050 Ti or even a regular 1050, it it workable? Or even pleasant? I am looking to get a new laptop, and if I don't need to get a full-blown, fire-breathing gaming machine with a 1060, I won't. Then again, if I could afford it, I'd just get a Macbook Pro, but I can't. Right now, anything would be an improvement over what I'm using now: a Skylake i5 with barely enough memory to boot up with and the Intel GPU. Just starting Resolve takes at least 15 minutes, and I don't dare load anything higher than 720p into it... I wonder how long it'll be before Blackmagic takes advantage of the Turing architecture.
