Rubber Bridge guitars are the new barncasters.
Favored for their unique and almost dead-like tone, rubber bridge guitars are taking over indie music.
"Witch of the mountain" written & recorded by Mark Gutierrez with a modified 1966 Stella "Rubber Bridge" guitar in B-standard tuning. Thanks for watching!

Since there’s a plethora of filaments to choose from today, a 3D printed bridge would be interesting to see explored 🤓 Heck, one could even program options for intonation into the model come to think of it 😃

Got mixed feelings about them. As a metal player, my brain goes "just use your palm, stupid!" but as a guitar fan, I love seeing things I've never seen before and how they work. This was... interesting, not sure if they're for me or not, but I like that it's a thing.

It is true, palm muting achieves a very similar tone. So do dead strings.

@MarkGutierrez I mean, I'm also a bit of an ass hat haha. I have realized, upon retrospect, the rubber bridge muting everything could also enable some potentially crazy sounding thrash tapping. They're growing on me.

Super rad video, I especially enjoy watching the process and experimentation that went into restoring and moding this cool looking guitar. Oh, and although I enjoyed the music and production at the end, I still wish we got to hear the guitar being played on its own with minimal processing. I want to hear the final product :) cheers!

Thanks! I lost the inlay footage. But it's the exact same process I used for the inlays on the Tom Delonge build video. I just put the laser on stilts and burn the pockets for the inlays straight onto the fretboard. Then cut out some rosewood.

What makes these great is that, as I reach my late 50’s and my ears are more sensitive to the high pitch ringing of guitar strings, I can enjoy playing again. I wish you sold those rubber bridges with your laser cut mount. That really had a great finished look to it.

Reminds me a lot of the mutes on old fender jaguars. I tried getting that jaguar mute sound on my acoustic by literally sticky taping a folded up zip lock bag just in front of the saddles and found it was a real cheap and reversible way to get in the ball park

when i started experimenting with rubber bridge out of JM/Jag bridge the first I tried was also heatshrink tube. I had two layers and than I put piece of scrunchie between those two and third layer of heatshrink. I also quickly realised that rubber is only way 😀

Mark question I am restoring a Bronson slot head lap steel By Regal mid 30 model. I am trying to do away with the wire thru the body bridge, I was thinking trapeze tail and floating bridge. I was wondering if the rubber bridge would work for this project? And thought or suggestions would be appreciated. Keith

@MarkGutierrez
@MarkGutierrez 7 ай бұрын
I have two 20watt lasers and a 10watt. I use the 10watt for every project. I only cut small material and don't have a use for cutting thicker stuff. You can't go wrong with a 20watt. Just get something with a nice thick frame.

It's tough to make a one-size-fits-all bridge for these old guitars because they are have all aged differently. The neck angle will probably always be different for each of these guitars which means the height of the bridge or the string slot depth needs to be custom made for each guitar. Technically I could make a generic one where the buyer would then have to dial in the height and string depth. Let me know if that is something you're interested in. You can message me on instagram.
