Im a stylist since 1996 and just let sum people know my baby was born with very short hair, and the time she was almost i decided to take wat little hair she had and make lots of little ponytails. I needed to do this to cause the hair to grow now my daughter's hair is down her back. There is a way to use rubberbands without causing damage to the hair. That is wat we learned in school during our training!!!

How do you use them without causing breakage?
@thanksmaddytv8154 жыл бұрын
Sig t For starters, learn how to properly remove them. People try taking them out and break their hair off in the process. Keep your hair moisturized. Nothing is meant to be used excessively. You can remove with scissors or fingernail clippers.

5 years later and here I am about to do this because my hair is so soft it slips when I try braiding it myself. Thank you
@JustTfyingMe8 жыл бұрын
I happen to like this method. I've seen girls wanting to get a sew in and from the hair being so short or damaged from chemicals, braiding hair doesn't always work. Y'all so worried about breaking of the hair but a braided foundation has ripped plenty of ppl hair out. Meechie clearly states dont do the rubber bands too tight to prevent breakage. Hello!!! what y'all not understanding??? As of hair growth any installation can grow your hair. It's all about how u maintain YOUR hair underneath is what ppl fail to realize. Just because it's a sew in doesn't mean neglect your real hair.
@cynthiamaddox25299 жыл бұрын
This method isn't a whole lot different from a braided sew in... Hell a braided sew in can take out hair as well.. Especially if the braiding is too tight. And obviously something is working because in the beginning and end of this meechie stated this is the clients second installment. Good job meechie...mothers did this for years to kids hair with no issues.

Not a bad method at all! If you haven't tried it then you shouldn't speak! I have a head full of hair and prefer this method over braids! It is a little time consuming but the take down is so much quicker than traditional braid patterns, just depend on your hair and how good your stylist is! I've gotten more damage with braids then with the rubber bands
@u.harper24698 жыл бұрын
I've heard of this method before, I am a stylist who specializes in natural hair and I must say that yes a stylist must know what they're doing when doing this style because there's triple traction it can go very wrong if installed too tightly. Meechie knows what she's doing, this is not a style for the unlicensed to try. Essential oils prevent breakage, as long as the hair is moist and oiled before, during and after install and one doesn't keep doing this method back to back to back her hair will be fine. She can also lift up her tracks and oil her scalp. Rubberbands only break hair when the hair is too dry and or bands are too tight.
@fokuspoint8 жыл бұрын

Anybody can go to school and get a cosmetology license. Some stylist STYLE hair and other stylist GROW healthy hair. It doesn't take much to make fake hair look pretty. Want to impress me...teach that woman how to manage and grow her OWN hair! There are plenty of chicken heads out there throwing there money to "booming businesses" that doesn't mean they are doing what is best for your hair and scalp.

Lmao, some of these folks and they comments are "just entertainment for n*****!" Oh the ignorance of some of these comments. ANYTHING you do to your hair will stress your hair: relaxers, ponytails, sew-ins, quick weaves, adding in braiding hair, braiding your own hair, gel, mousse, combing too much or not combing at all, pressing combs, texturizers, etc. Calm the hell down. 1st of all: IT'S HAIR, IT GROWS BACK. 2nd of all: If you listen to what she said "DO NOT PULL THE RUBBERBANDS TOO TIGHT" there won't be anymore breakage than with anything else you do to your hair. When our kids were little we put the same little black rubberbands, knockers, hairbows, barrettes, clips, etc. in our kid's hair and I'm pretty confident not everyone's children are walking around bald from it. Let's apply the smallest amount of common sense before writing mean comments and attacking people. I can sew the HELL outta some hair, but due to injurying my thumb in a fight YEARS ago, braiding is one of the most painful things for me to do. A technique like this (DONE IT CORRECTLY) would save me time and reduce the pain in my hands. Thank you MadAboutMeechie for sharing. PS I know some bad ass stylists that can't braid worth a shit, but can bang the shit out of some hair, IJS. #WhyYouMad
@qtepiee889 жыл бұрын
Its great that she is innovative and has come up with a solution for people who want to do their own sew-ins but cant cornrow, but I personally would use it, simply because of the breakage that could occur. Sew-ins are protective styles so I wouldn't want that many rubber bands causing tension on my hair, especially my relaxed hair. I don't think the rubber bands are the main issue of breakage, I think its how the person takes them out. They may try to cut or rip them out, which would be devastating. It also seems like it will come loose quickly and/or the rubber bands that is holding the foundation could pop! Great job tho. The final result was pretty :)

I love the rubber band method. I can't braid worth a lick in the back, so I cornrow the top and rubberband the back. I also oil my rubberbands in my hair at night, so bands won't get dry and pop my hair out. Thanks for introducing me to this method. It's been a game Changer for me!!

I'VE HAD THIS TECHNIQUE DONE A FEW YEARS AGO. AND I MUST SAY THAT HAD TO BE THE WORST WEAVING TECHNIQUE OTHER THAN BONDING GLUE. FIRST OF ALL I GOT IT DONE HERE AND CHARLOTTE, NC AND I'M NOT GOING TO NAME THE STYLIST, BUT THERE IS A LAWSUIT PENDING. SHE DID MY HAIR LIKE THIS, AND THE RUBBERBANDS CREATED SORES ON MY SCALP. ALSO, WHEN YOU WASH YOUR HAIR, YOU CANNOT THOROUGHLY GET UNDERNEATH THOSE SMALL RUBBER BANDS, THEREFORE WHEN YOU DO WASH THE HAIR, THERE IS A LOT OF DIRT AND LINT BUILD-UP. WHEN I TOOK THE WEAVE DOWN, WHERE THE RUBBERBANDS WERE PLACED, THERE WAS MAD AMOUNT OF DIRT AND LINT ON THE PIECE THAT WAS RUBBERBAND UP. THEREFORE WHEN COMBING OUT THE HAIR, THERE WAS HAIR LOSS. THROUGH EXPERIENCE, I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS TECHNIQUE TO ANYBODY.. MAJORITY OF MY HAIR FELL OUT BECAUSE OF THIS. I'M JUST GETTING MY HAIR TO GROW BACK IN SPOTS, THANKS TO HAIR INFINITY. BE VERY CAREFUL WITH THIS TECHNIQUE.

Im not hating on her at all, I dont know much about her to hate on her wanted to make that clear before that gets said! Im just pointing out that someone saying they are a celebrity stylist really doesnt hold a lot of weight at least to other cosmetologist because like I said alot of people out do someone in the spotlights hair one time and they tag themselves as a celebrity stylist. When I think of a "Celebrity Stylist" Im thinking of someone who works exclusively on tv sets, theater, etc... everyday and do very little mainstream hair for lack of a better word!! Just my 2 cents. I think she is a very talented stylist and look forward to seeing more of her work : )

If you leave it in beyond a week the natural oils in your scalp and any additional oil or moisturizer added during styling and scalp care will break the rubberbands down. When you take the net off, most of the bands would probably be broken or really soft.

I used to do mine like that back in high school in the late 90's but I connected mine with the thread not rubber bands since they're very damaging on the hair. I wrapped the thread around in the small sections then connected them the same way. The thread was way easier to get out and caused no damage at all.

Akua Owusu oooh that sounds like a good idea too oil on the thread Thanks so next time when I do my daughter sew in I will put rosemary and coconut oil on the thread. I also like the hair net method, I used to think it was too hot and a waste of time but its not it makes sewing the tracks in much easier and faster. I love Meechie's demo though she has great videos I've tried many methods because of her and the liquid wig cap really worked well for my daughter because she suffered major hair loss and that liquid wig cap helped me give her a weave until her natural hair grew back. So Thanks Meechie.

When you're doing a sew in it is supposed to last for at least a few months. Why would you want rubber bands in your hair for that long. If your hair is too short to braid, don't get a sew-in. If you can't braid; don't do sew-ins. I understand that stylists have to be crafty when a client comes in with no hair and wants a sew-in and a good stylist would suggest alternatives and worn a client of future breakage. But at the end of they day, it's up to the client and if a stylist refuses, they will just find someone else who will.

her hair is already damaged.....severely! those rubberbands are a bad idea not to mention all the lint that will accumulate in those rubberbands after wearing a sew in for 6 weeks. I'm a firm believer in making sure the clients real hair is healthy first before you put all that tension on her scalp. no shade.
@JC-sf6ux8 жыл бұрын
i totally agree!
@olscott16248 жыл бұрын
+Julia Carbin Then she said you don't want to make the rubberbands too tight so you don't pull the hair......I'm looking at the video l like WHAT HAIR? She needs a hot oil treatment and a prayer!!! no shade again
@JC-sf6ux8 жыл бұрын
i second that! I would never use this method on my clients. ill use synthetich hair building a perimeter or make them a wig on a weaving cap. *sigh* i hope she didges this method

+Ol Scott I'm sorry how does she need prayer cause her hair is short the dumbest thing I heard and maybe she wanted something different but its not your hair so y is u saying anything
@mshelloindygirl44278 жыл бұрын
+Julia Carbin u don't have to use this on your clients u don't know hair is different and listen to what she said its secure and it do loosen up

The style is beautiful but that girl needs to let her own hair grow before she goes completely bald and leave the weave alone. Ladies need to stop sacrificing their own here for a weave.
@blueberrysav9 жыл бұрын
Not to be rude but a large portion of the time when women wear sew- ins in protects the hair unlike quick weaves which use hair glue
@mzhollyhood10009 жыл бұрын
blueberrysav well said

blueberrysav I feel like alot of women claim its a "protective styling" as an excuse to notsay they simply don't like their natural hair. I would say 2 out of 10 women wear wigs and weaves as a protective style and the rest simply wear them because they don't like their own hair, its too short and/or are lazy to take care of it.
@knowdaqueen1778 жыл бұрын
+Denise Vasquez but the other 8 probably don't claim it as a protective style

Ok, I'm no expert but something tells me that those rubber bands are a baaaaadddd idea! Rubber bands even at the ends of little girls' plats always result in hair loss when you remove them after sometime. If your hair is too short to braid, go natural and treat your hair right. Wear wigs during the daytime as this growth occurs. I'm sure after about 4 months, you'll be fine to braid your natural hair. I know because this is what I did.
@sjlewis2718 жыл бұрын
That's in utmost lie. I just started to do my nieces hair in plaits because it was broke off and brittle from braids. Now her hair is healthy and growing. Not to mention, after a while the rubberbands have to break...ANYWAY. It might be a bad idea for you, but clearly it wasn't for this particular person.

Just curious, whats the benefit of doing this?
@Glamistryy9 жыл бұрын
The Taylor Tales The benefit of doing this is as she stated in the video to give the clients whose hair is too short to braid or for those who simply don't know how to braid the ability to utilize the rubberband method to ensure a secure base.
@BonitaSheron9 жыл бұрын
I guess for people that can't braid? That's the only time I would see this being beneficial...because braiding to me would be a whole lot faster and easier....lol.
@Glamistryy9 жыл бұрын
I agree, but I wouldn't even attempt this. I enjoy braiding my clients hair.. I think this is a lot..
@amandanicoletaylor9 жыл бұрын
it seems damaging to the hair, and surely if you can grip hair enough to put a rubberband around it and connected it then its long enough to braid. It wouldn't be the benefit of the client it would be to benefit the stylist if the stylist doesn't know how to braid. I couldn't imagine this holding up through washing/scratching. . .etc
@kelsaMJ9 жыл бұрын
The Taylor Tales it's actually not damaging if done correctly. And even if you have less than an inch of hair you can do this method just closer together whereas you can't braid it without it being too loose even with braiding hair. The benefit is it stretches the client's hair while protecting it again if done correctly. Parents use the rubberband method on children's hair to grow it out when they're younger. It serves the same purpose here.
