I am from Finland and don't know how they measure happiness there. I find the country silent, depressing, and very difficult to talk to people. Your country on the other hand I found very welcoming, socially warm, inviting, and beautiful in so many ways I can't write them all down here.

You are welcomed because you are a foreigner and if I assume, you might be white, you have certain benefits which the locals with their inferiority complex will provide you, they will be nicer to you, more welcoming and etc. because of the colonial mentality still prevailing amongs the population.

I am an American Expat living here in the Philippines for over 3 years. I have an SRRV visa and my Filipina wife and I bought a property/house west of Tagaytay.. To me, the best thing about the Philippines is it's people. Most of the people I have as friends are Philipinos. Yes, the traffic here is horrible, that is why I no longer drive here. My wife drive me or we hire one of our friends to drive me. We chose to live here because we are higher in elevation and it is cooler here.. We don't have a problem with flooding and Typhoons are not as bad as in many other areas. We love it here. Tagaytay has a good Medical Center with good Doctors and it doesn't cost much to see one. We love it here.

Rubeauti listening to your negatives has reinforced my desire to live in a province area when I retire to the Philippines. Thankfully I am still in good health and have never smoked so I see smoking bans as a positive not a negative. I have ridden motorbikes all of my life so I believe owning a motorbike in the province will be ok and you said there are less corrupt traffic officers in the provinces 🙂. I have been looking at long term rentals and they are so cheap in the province that I would not need to buy property. In terms of longer visits before deciding to live there my plan is to do 3 month visits to different areas before deciding which one to settle in. Thank you so much for being honest about the downsides of living in PI but I still believe that the people and culture make it a very desirable retirement destination with a SRRV. God Bless.

First of all, congratulations on getting to over 10 thousand subscribers, your channel is growing pretty fast. Lots of good and honest advice as always with your shared experiences. I’ve only visited Manila three times and each time there was an issue with taxi drivers. One time I got out of the cab when he stopped at a red light. I left the door open until I got my case out of the boot. I have also had it in Cebu also, but only a couple of times out of many taxi rides. You do need to be aware of the scams, but that’s the same wherever you go. Healthcare was the main reason I’ve never moved there full time, but even in the UK now, the healthcare service is not like it was, and has long waiting lists.

I had a taxi scam attempt in Cebu back in 2019. This was my 1st ever visit to the Philippines. I stayed two weeks; I spent 1 week in Cebu and a week on Davao City. With the exception of that one instance the visit and taxi trips were great. Anyways, it began with me flagging down a taxi. After entering the cab, the driver ask did I mind if he turn off the meter? I replied I prefer he kept it on. He said where I was going would be cheaper if the meter was off. I told him I did not have a problem w/the metered rate. So he kept insisting on turning off the meter. I told him never mind and got out of the taxi. I flagged another taxi - an honest driver who took me where I wanted to go. Upon arrival I looked at the meter and paid him double what was on the meter. He immediate said I was paying too much money. I said, no it is the correct rate. I told him what happened with the previous taxi. As I was exiting his taxi I told him, because he was honest and did NOT try to scam me like the other taxi, I am paying him the his [the metered rate] fair and the fair of the other taxi because honesty does pay. Have a good day sir! He was stunned. Weeks before my trip I did some research and learned of this meter scam so when it started to go down I know what was happening. At that time this scam was largely perpetuated by the taxis in Manila. I see it has spread and become more common in Cebu now.

Miss Rubeati, Thank you for sharing your experience, an eye opener for many.. Q: have you considered moving to middle size city?? I was in Dumaguete and except for the traffic I loved it there..you are correct, no traffic lights, no stop signs, it is actually amazing more accidents don't happen...I was in Dumaguete last month, and as bad luck happens, I landed in the emergency room on my first day arriving to the Philippines...I stayed at the Rovira Hotel, which I give it 4 stars, was excellent, room service was great, and so was the food..I order food to my room or by the pool all day...anyway, since my medical emergency happened late after 10pm, there were no taxis in the area so the front desk called the ambulance for me...the ride to the hospital was free, though I tipped them for the ride...I don't recall the name of the hospital, CDC I think?? but was told it was a private hospital so there were only a few people waiting ahead of me..I was seen within 20 minutes of arrival and was not asked to pay in advance..the cost was about $120.00 US and was seen by a doctor not a nurse..after I was attended, still no taxis, was after midnight so the ambulance gave me a ride to the hotel..ha,ha,ha.. In Dumaguete there isn't much trash, city is fairly clean...it rains about 3 times per week but usually short periods...the longer lasting rain typically happens at night...after 3 weeks there I became acclimated didn't feel so bad..for city travel I used trikes so the cost was about 40 pesos almost anywhere in town.. I also read that Dumaguete is considered one of the top 5 destinations in the world to retire.. 3 weeks later I went to the same hospital for a follow-up and received good treatment by the same doctor.. On 2 occasions the taxi drivers tried to charge me a lot more so I passed on their service and waited on a trike instead...as an investor I've earned enough money where I'm not worried about cost, but don't like it when people want to take advantage of me simple bc I'm a foreigner.....thank you again for sharing your experience with us.. I'm a huge fan of your vlogs.. May the Lord bless and protect you, as I can sense your kind heart..

I have to agree with you on drivers. Years ago I drove my motorcycle from Subic Bay to the American Embassy in Manila. I was cut off like you except by a jeepney. I was forced on to the sidewalk or would of been knockdown like you. Surprising the sidewalk went down a bunch of stairs. I am glad there was no one on the sidewalk at the time. I finally got back on the road and the person I was riding with thought I was doing trick driving or showing off. He didn't realize I was doing that to save a motorcycle crash with injuries. I laughed. but was so scared at the time. Lol

Sadly this is all very true. Driving in the Philippines is like a computer game, where car lights and brakes are optional, small children and dogs will appear out of nowhere, the sidewalk disssaperes and Jeepney and tricycles will stop and start without warning. You have to be super alert, but if you're up for it, it can be very rewarding. Fast toll roads have improved life a lot and the Skyway also makes life much easier - for a price. If you can drive in a major city like London or Bangkok, you can drive in the Philippines. 👍

My neighborhood flooded last September during a hurricane. 🌀 Taxi drivers all over are known for being questionable, which is why Uber and Lyft are so popular. Dog 💩 in most big cities. You have obviously never been to the Philippines...as is probably the case with most people leaving their brilliant comments, otherwise you'd know that there's zero comparison between a third-world country and the US in pretty much anything, and that in particula is the case-in-point with the Phlippines. It is exactly as bad as described here X100...and yes, it is also a beautiful place, particularly when/if you get to live in your little western bubble, but it has a long way to go when it comes to the filth, traffic, infra-structure, poverty, sanitation in hospitals etc etc etc, and you can't ignore it unless you stay within the resort/gated community. Go there with an open mind and low expectations and accept it as is; then you might have a chance. Cheers

Great video. Some sober discussion of the issues in your country. Who would voluntarily want to deal with that traffic stress regardless if you are a driver or pedestrian or just have to get somewhere? It seems like people are forgetting it's still a developing country. To me a reasonably working infrastructure is important, a clean environment, and a climate where I don't need constant showers due to excessive sweating. Those typhoons are also destructive and unpredictable. It's not for the faint of heart. The corruption would be very hard to tolerate as well for someone who has not had to deal with that their whole life.

Hi Rubeauti Chris here. The reason you have kidney stones is because of the water. Water that is high in calcium and minerals will cause kidney stones the best thing to do is to drink apple cider vinegar it will break down the kidney stones. start drinking water that is not so high in calcium and minerals. I used to drink distilled water but the problem with distilled water is it's acidic it's not 7.5 on the pH scale the best thing you can do is add apple cider vinegar to your water that should help but you should take at least a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar everyday to help break those kidney stones down

@20:50 the garbage can actually be a good thing if you think about for a second. I own a smelter so I can melt metal, I'd take all of the cans then melt them to turn the aluminum into duralumin. Duralumin is a combination of certain metals and it's used to make car parts and airplane parts. You can sell that for good money. The plastic I would heat up to turn into cups to sell. If you get that much trash on a regular basis I would go around collecting it and profiting on it 🤑

You're absolutely right on every subject, as with all other countries, the Philippines has its share of difficulties. This is my 3rd trip here, been here 8 months and deciding if retirement here is best for me. The problems you mentioned are real and enduring, it absolutely makes me so sad and angry that the filipino people don't take more pride in their communities, seems like no one could care less, even if foreigners pump thousands of dollars into the economy every month, we have no rights whatsoever. The poor here are treated like a commodity and exploited at every turn. Being half filipino, this saddens me deeply. I'm sure there's some people out there that will make the ignorant comment about staying in my own country and "we don't need you" well, to them I say goodbye and good luck, if you're not worried about your own country, why should I? It's getting to the point where unless you're mega rich, it's difficult to live anywhere in the world. As for the kidney stones, I've passed lots of them, they can be made from different things, such as uric acid and excess calcium.. The best advice I can give you is to drink water with lemon, every day.. It will change the ph levels in your urine and help dissolve the stones before becoming too large to pass.

There are challenges wherever you live but I think most of us Americans are looking for Kinder and gentler people and especially women that are committed to their families and husbands. I met someone today in Florida that's married to a Filipina and I told him he is so lucky. I would love to travel there and I wish I could find a high-quality person to show me around. Thanks for the info!

When I visited the Philippines in 2019 my fiance turn on Google Map from point A to point B and Google would tell us which way to turn. A couple of taxis that really irritated them. As long as we had that GPS talking telling us where to go we had no problems of course that was on mactan Island in Lapu-Lapu

As a foreigner, I appreciate the honesty in your video's. I am also married to a Filipina and you confirm many of the things I know. Even though much of the Philippine Government was fashioned after the US, there are still, to this day, a lot of laws and policies that make no sense. In many ways, the Philippines, as a country and people, are about 50 years behind the US and wrought with corruption .. but I love the people.

As far as land goes, you can lease the land for 25 years with an option to extend for 25 years. After the lease is over the owner of the land gets their land back. It makes sense if you and your girl break up you can still stay in your house because the lease is in your name. Once lease is over you have to leave and give the land back to owner.

In regards to your comments about health insurance and treatment in the Philippines, another KZfaqr named The Filipina Pea did an interview with an insurance agent in either Dumagetti or Cebu. He stated that the best health insurance that you can get in the Philippines is Pacific Cross and the annual cost is between $12K and $15K. He also listed some of the benefits and that it is accepted in most hospitals in the Philippines and worldwide. BTW I just recently found your channel and so am a new subscriber. Great job.

😎👍 🇺🇸 I would imagine if someone from their home state in the US listed all the negatives. It would sound pretty bad. The things we take for granted everyday could an inconvenience to a new comer. Especially if it's a over populated city. The biggest advantage of retirement in the Philippines is the economic one. An old fart can live a reasonably comfortable life off social security. That is very deficit here in the US. Most of the lower cost of living areas have the highest crime and the worst living conditions. Or you can live in the woods far from everyone and everything. The key in the Philippines is balance. Being close enough to a city for necessities and amenities. But not so close the city is a pain in the ass to deal with. Be able to go into town to handle your business and leave. Cheers.✌️

I really don't see your negative as being very bad. (My retirement benifits will be the same amount regardless of where I live, but my money will go further there) In Phoenix, Arizona (USA) it would cost at least $100 for a ride across town, there 200-400 pesos ($8). I currently pay $1000 per month in the USA for my Blue Cross Insurance even if I never see a doctor. There, I can get insurance for well under $200 per month. Most procedures, including new teeth, braces for the wife, or eye glasses, are just as good, yet at a fraction of the price. (remember my retirement amount of $3300 per month stays the same if I'm her or there.) Rent here for a adequate apartment is a minimum of $1000 per month. There $400 per month is a nice place. Utilities are absolutely cheap there compared to here. Owning a vehicle here in the states is expensive, most pay payments and vehicle insurance of around $1000 per month combines. There? scooter or small car are perfectly fine. (I will buy a car, for cash and buy insurance that is way cheaper than here). Yes, we also have traffic, here, and sometimes it's scary. Poop, on your shoes? It's gonna happen everywhere.. Great video, but until the hot girls in the US are actively pursuing fat old men like me... I'd rather be there :) The fact is, that men beyond our prime are considered desireable there. (women here want to be with me, but it's only for my money. At least there, if it's only for my money, I can smile, enjoy life, and not even care. Life is good there). Stay sweet, keep up the good work. The Philippines is going to be my forever home in the last week of August. Keep educating us.

I don’t have to worry about owning land since I was born in Manila all I need to do is get my dual citizenship. When I’m there I use Grab because I got scammed twice from arriving to Manila using the taxi. Grab is great I can go anywhere to visit relatives. I enjoy staying in Manila when I vacation since all my cousins live around the area. The rest live in Bicol that too boring for me to visit. I’m a city person…province life is too slow get bored easily.

For those planning to stay in the Philippines, it’s not that bad. The government is building an all electric train system from Clark to Manila on to Calamba, Laguna. You may wish to stay in a place close to one of the stations if you like to live in the province with easy access to Manila. There are are 2 existing overhead train lines in Manila and they are completing one segment to close the circumferential loop. One these lines is being extended to Cavite. They are also building another line from Bulacan that will connect to that loop. They are also building a subway line that will connect to the loop. There is an overhead highway that connects the airport so best to stay in a hotel close to the overhead highway. They are building a new airport that will replace the existing international airport. In 5 to 10 years, the face of Manila and surrounding areas will change drastically. For the time being, for top notch medical care, stay close to Manila and Cebu. By the way, there was a time when Manila was the go-to destinations for Middle Eastern and Japanese people for kidney transplant. The government has clamped down and now criminalizes the “sale” of kidneys for transplant.

The trains are allready filled to capacity. The only solution to traffic is to create jobs in the province. The phillipines will need to build decent roads, stable electricity and fast internet in order to attract more business investments.

Couple of the issues i think were miss are the Brown-outs from the increasing Electrical demands. I Kinda like them because i am odd, it allows me to get out , do some taichi or yoga at the park, visit w/ family, go shopping at SM. Think Bacolod and Iloilo isn't bad on traffic and Iloilo is a very clean city. ( also almost 40% less cheaper to live there than Manila.) Is the land the same as when I have my citizenship ?

Some of those taxi drivers will rig their meter to run faster than normal too. best bet is take a trike or use GRAB or GRAB TAXI where you will see the price and pay in advance. Grab is similar to Uber but you can choose from Taxi and personal cars. I don't bother with those normal taxi drivers anymore.

I don't know about most of the people who visit there maybe rich playboys but i can tell you that a mainstream american working man fortunate enough to even have a vacation such as this would never leave a bad name for themselves anywhere and in the event he did meet someone would never leave them behind or their family for that matter even if it meant supporting the family for a period of time until they could be brought here ! moral of the story is theres always a few bad apples but don't let that spoil the whole barrel of apples for you

Thank you for this video. It is informative, well organized, and funny. You have a nice voice for videos. Clear. Easily heard. Good enunciation. Deeper tone. ..... BUSINESS / LAND LAWS : Yes! Foreign owners of a business originating in the Philippines may own a maximum of 60% of the organization and profits, but never its real estate. However, foreigners can own 100% of a foreign company but with limitations. Considering your history with mainland Asians, Europeans, and perhaps some Americans, this is not a bad idea.

I take a mixture of 1 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar...8 ounces of water...and the juice of a whole lemon each and every morning and then again at night. I simply down it in one go. It tastes pretty bad, but the thought of getting kidney stones terrify me after seeing various workmates and friends suffer through the ordeal. I also eat celery with my lunch. Grandmothers used to give celery to their daughters to control their blood pressure while pregnant.

Hi, I am from Brazil and most of what you say reminds me of my country in the 1960s and 70s. By the 90s most of the issues were resolved. Traffic is still awful, but it was a lot worse and drivers are still very bad, but fines keep most of them in line. As for corruption, it got better and then completely collapsed with the present government. And as things go, it will only get worse.
