1) Solve any F2L pair in under 8 moves. 2) Drill you algs till death and make sure you have good finger tricks. 3) Reduce F2L pauses and regrips. 4) Use unlimited inspection time to find 1st pair + cross (X-Cross) 5) Practice untimed solves and reward yourself if the solve was without pauses, not if it was fast.

I recently got to sub 15 avg- a big tip which I don't think was mentioned in this video is to solve F2L pairs into the back slots. Once I started doing this my lookahead improved dramatically and I went from around 18 seconds avg to 15 quickly. (my average cross+F2L time went from 12/13 seconds to 9/10 with this). I actually use almost none of these tips (i.e. none of: memorized move/grip efficient f2l algs, planning a pair in inspection, non-standard algorithm sets, practicing untimed solves, color neutrality), so these things aren't necessary to get to sub 15, but seems like they will definitely get you there if you are stuck. Thanks for this video- I'm excited to use these tips to get even faster.

Yo J perm you should come up with an oll subset. JLL. Jperm last layer. Algs for each edge oriented last layer that always gives a j perm.
@JPerm
@JPerm 7 жыл бұрын
MATH. There are 8 ways you can get a J perm (2 J perms, 4 different angles), so each JLL alg would work for 8 different 1LLL cases (approximately, since I'm ignoring exceptions due to rotational symmetry). Most OLL cases have 72 1LLL cases, so most OLL cases would have 72/8=9 JLL algorithms. 9 algs per OLL * 57 OLLs = 513 algs but due to rotational symmetry this number might be smaller and due to me the math could be wrong.

Video Suggestion: You could make a video setting up a cube the way you like it (lube, tensions, stickers, etc). Like you could buy a new cube like the GTS 2 and set it up using your way of lubing and stuff. Maybe also including some tips and things to avoid doing when setting up a cube. KZfaq right now is saturated with cube unboxings and solving tutorials like this one (both are good) but it would be cool to see you set up a cube to your liking :P just a random thought :).

I like what you said around 12:34 about forcing yourself to practice what you want to improve. I could do F2L "intuitively" but it was so slow and frustrating that I kept going back to beginner. Eventually, my beginner method got down to just below a min average and I thought, ok it's time to REALLY tackle F2L (and eventually full OLL/PLL, etc.). I watched yours and cubeskills vids on intuitive F2L which got me to where it's not TOO painfully slow, but my solves took a dive all the way back down to 2mins, sometimes 2:30 😩. But I'm just FORCING myself to keep working on it. I'm going through your F2L alg sheet and really trying to study the algs and simultaneously UNDERSTAND what they do while also getting them down to where they're automatic. I also decided to go color neutral as well, so that added to the slowdown of my solves. I've been trying to decide whether I should step back from that and maybe instead of going cold turkey on color neutral, try to maybe focus on one color each week or something. I've got my opposite color patterns down but adjacent colors are more confusing since the relationships can turn upside down. Which in turn slows down F2L recognition. So I'm sometimes literally having to talk to myself while solving and point to the cubies in desperation like, "OK, WHERE's the red/yellow edge? Looking for the red/yellow edge!". I'm insane but I just love the cube. So yeah, thanks for all the great content!
@JPerm
@JPerm 5 жыл бұрын
I felt a similar thing in terms of searching for pieces when doing color neutrality, as well as edges on big cubes being pretty hard to find, so I know what you mean! if the task of solving properly is difficult for your brain, it means that pure practice is the best way to improve

Hi, I came from BrodyTheCuber's "How to be sub-20" video, and I finally managed to achieve that. I will be commenting my progression of becoming sub-15, in hopes that this video would help me. Currently I avg 20s with a PR of 11.94s. Edit 1: Today's December 4, 2023, and I managed to beat my record (only a little bit) which is 11.78s. Most of my solves I get around sub-20, but I guess my average ranges from sub 18-20s. Edit 2: Today's December 7, 2023, just three days after my new pr and I got a new single of 11.408s. Avg still ranges from 18-20 but there have been times where I consistently get 15 or 17s. Edit 3: Today's December 15, 2023, about a week after my previous pr, and I finally got a 10-sec solve (New PB) which is 10.38s. I'm now averaging 18s and it wont be long (hopefully) until I manage to average 15s. Edit 4: Todays February 12, 2024, and About the statement I made in Edit 3, well, it took me about 2 months just to be averaging sub 17 and a pb ao100 of 16.41 🥲. Not much has improved in the preceding months since I had to manage both my time in school and in cubing. Fortunately, I did practice 3x3 OH and got a pb of 17.59 and average of sub 27. Additionally, I'm also currently practicing 3x3 BLD. Though I do have some good news for regular 3x3. I now have a pb of 8.66s! and an average of sub-17, so I guess it's nice. (P.s. for now I think I won't be focusing on training in regular 3x3, I think I'll focus my time on BLD and OH more, but I'll still practice on the normal 3x3. See you again next time. Edit 5: Today is March 6, 2024, and a lot has changed since the past month. For 3x3, I managed to get a pb of 7.9s (though this is only thanks to a smartcube scramble, so technically, my pb single should be 8.6s) as well as a pb ao50 of 14.80. While I am technically "sub-15" in that category, I'm still practicing until I finally get an ao100 of sub-15. Though I did manage to get close to it at 15.11s. In other words, I think I am now averaging around sub-15-16 seconds. My guess is that in the month of march or april, I would be able to finally get sub-15, and move on to the next step. Wish me luck in that. Edit 6: Today's March 8, 2024 and I have finally reached sub-15. My next goal would be sub-10, so wish me luck on that. From now on I will be commenting on Jperm "Tips to be sub-10" video until I've reached that. Btw, my pb is still 8.66 I've gone a long way since septemeber 2023 where I was just sub-25 ar the time. Im hoping at the very least, id be able to achieve sub-12 or sub-10 before my 1 year celebration. (Speedcubing for ke started on around august-september, so its been around 6 and a half months since I started that).

It's currently May 28, 2024, and looking back at this comment, I'm glad I didn't stop at the sub-20 mark and continued to reach the sub-15 mark at the time. As of now, I average around sub-12 seconds though it's inconsistent but most of my solves do in fact get me to 12s or even lower than that. To add on to this, my current pb is 8.04s (not much but the frequency of getting 9's and 10's are much higher than before). Hopefully I'd be able to reach sub-10 before the complete 1 year ends (It's currently the 9th month now)

suggestion for a video----- when your recognizing your pll what is is that you see exactly on those two sides that make you think ohh hey this is this case (to help with 2 sided pll recognition) such as cues that you see to make you think that ohh hey there is this in such and such location( like two opposite colored corner stickers you would know there's headlights on the other side if the adjacent corner stickers do not also have opposite colors)

it'll come over time. something you can do is find a peice on the cube, then try to track it while you randomly turn the cube really fast. it'll help you build intuition for how peices move around the cube.

I agree with one of your last statements about sticking it out and figuring out your alg even if it ruins your time. I'm in the middle of learning COLL and you really notice the improvement for learning new algs when you actually recognize and execute them in a real solve and not just repeating it over and over. Also, would you be able to do a video on x-crosses? More specifically, WHEN it's a good idea to do them. I already know how to form an x-cross, but everyone says only do them if they're easy. Well... what's an easy x-cross and what isn't? I've never seen any examples. Granted I'm not hardcore practicing x-crosses because I know I'm not there yet (I have a lot on my plate with learning COLL and becoming color neutral being ~22 second average dual color neutral between white/yellow), but it would be great to have that resource.

1. Solve any F2L case in 8 moves or less (with some exceptions for 11 moves max) 2. Drill algs to be more consistent (ID problem points and fix them) 3. Reduce F2L pauses and regrips (this invloves learning some unnatural fingertricks) 4. Use unlim inspec to find 1 pair (with enough practice u can do this sub15, maybe ease in by only tracking one corner or one edge) 5. Practice with untimed (not necessarily slow) solves (just dont pause, if you do try to figure out why) Bonus: Learn full OLL No pauses most important Practice things that will make you better (screw time) Set a goal and don't let yourself get in the way of it

I have a question... I drilled all my algs but when it comes to the real solve, V Perms are making me SLOW down. I timed my Execution on v perms (.61 avg) but in real solves, execution time is like 1-2 secs.. any tips to improve this? I have a smooth turning style and a good speedcube V perm alg I use most: R U2 R' D R U' R U' R U R2 D R' U' R D2 Sometimes: R' U R' U' y' (is that the correct notation?) R' F' R2 U' R' U R' F R F
@JPerm
@JPerm 6 жыл бұрын
i have a hard time believing you average .61 on V perms, chris olson and drew brads specifically use a faster than standard V perm to time it and can barely get sub-1 for a good single. anyway, v perm execution in a solve is supposed to take 1-2 seconds. it's a very hard algorithm and i doubt anybody averages sub-1 for v perm during a solve.

I'm not sure if this is a kinda bad way to solve it, but at 1:49 if you're facing it from the blue side (or whatever side is on the top block), if you have the slot in the front right and the corner right above it as he does at the time stamp, then you can do M U Rw U' Rw' U' M'. Advantages include that it preserves all the other f2l slots (as well as a possible pair in the back left, but that's rarely gonna come up), and it's only 7 moves. Disadvantages include that there's a regrip with either the ring or pinky finger to do the M move at the start, as well as to move back from the M' at the end, and just the general truth that most CFOP solvers aren't used to doing that many M or wide L R moves. The algorithm also works in the other slots, with front left being M U' Lw' U Lw U M', back right being M' U' Rw' U Rw U M, and back left being M' U Lw U' Lw' U' M. In all cases, make sure that the edge is either in the front or back, with its top sticker matching the center of the relevant front or back side, as well as ensuring that the corner is positioned above its slot. Also keep in mind that the two back algorithms don't have any regrips but have really awful finger trips towards the end of them. Again I'm not sure how good these are, so if anyone has feedback on this long comment on a 5 year old video that would be very appreciated!
@JudeStradtner

This is actually considered to be the best algorithm for the Front right and front left cases. I haven’t tried the back cases, so I’ll experiment and get back to you on what I think about those.
