I am forever grateful for encountering Dr. Miles Neale even if only on the Internet. He has elevated my practice with his insight both psychologically and spiritually. Powerful vessel for awakening sentient beings. May you be happy. May you be healthy.

That is the best encapsulation of acting from compulsive programming, or samsara, that I have ever heard

This is a wonderful Buddhist teaching for the modern western world. The presenter knows Tibetan Buddhist teachings and is able to make them accessible for those of us in the west. As a psychologist and longtime Buddhist practitioner, I was very impressed with this talk.

Probably one of the best lectures I have heard on Buddhism to date! Felt it both simplified things while also giving me a complex and deep understanding at the same time.

@ 37:35. Great insight Miles. As the beautiful Jewish Austrian psychiatrist Victor Frankel said - When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves. Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms-to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way. Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.

In Zen training an intetion is never preset before training because real life does not work that way either in the forest or in the city. What ever situation comes along is what we will meet without expectation and it is at that moment that the level of our mastery is tested. If you are unconsciously awake no attack or uncomfortable situation will surprise you to the extent that you under or over react to it. Self-mastery insures that that your response will be spontaneous, timely, accurate and appropriate. Simply put:no-mind every day mind. As my Chinese Zen master say Wu Wei.

I just wanted to point out that the pronunciation of the word "saṁsara" is not samsara. It is "sun(g)sara.

The image is the bhavacakra, often translated as the "wheel of life" or "wheel of existence." Here is a link to the image at the Rubin Musuem: rubinmuseum.org/collection/artwork/wheel-of-existence

The example of one person bumping the others arm as both are walking on a train platform is incorrectly described here once a person has awakened Zen. How each reacts to the bump has no emotional importance, in the sense stated here. What actually takes place is an exchange of energy. When the physical and non-physical aspects of being fully integrate it changes a person's metabolism. This renewal, reorganizes the body's energetic systems and associated pathways. This is a pronounced physiological event and prepares the psycho-physical complex to receive free energy from the environment. No bump or bash is ever random. But what I describe here is not a theory that I need to teach. Its a byproduct of Zen awakening which you will experience without expecting, thinking about, or using intention. It will happen by itself and the experience itself will prove it to you.

Do not follow Dharma "teachers" in this low generation. Only follow beings who can demonstrate they are enlightened. Another person teaching you ... you do not exist ... this you don't need.
