Damn that sucks. There's so many terrible things about Canada but one thing I like is how my rent can only be legally raised a certain percent, once per year, and my landlords are cool and only raise the minimum, which to be honest just correlates with my work raises each year, so I don't notice a difference in my wallet.

Except that's an outdated, ignorant assumption. Sure, it's still valid on one level. But: 1) Are you so stupid to think that if the Secret Service or a SWAT team get sent in knocking on the doors of people in "undesirable" groups one by one, that their weapons will do them any good? That if that's you, that your weapons will do you any good? Do you think when you buy completely into the propaganda that "those" people are "enemies of the state" (just because you don't like them, even though they did nothing technically contrary to American ideals), that if they used their weapons to fight the govt, you wouldn't just buy into labeling them violent criminals who shot at cops or "our troops"? 2) That your little guns will do an ounce of good against drones, propaganda, microtech and surveillance, slow isolating of "terrorist" groups and all the other "wrong" groups? Let alone tanks, artillery, air force, ... even usage of regular military strength of ground troops? 3) Gun regulation is not taking away your guns. If it is, should you have a gun in the first place? If you think that's abusable, just think about what your opinion actually is next time any point is made in your presence about felons not being allowed to have guns. How hard is it to get you to buy into defining someone as a felon? To get you to buy into making laws that define the "wrong" people as felons? Also, has your possession of guns actually been directly threatened by the federal govt knocking on your door during Biden's time in office? By making it so you have been able to buy 0 (absolutely 0!) additional ammo during the last 4 years? If it's threatened by a state govt, well... just think about that in relation to what you might think is okay regarding states taking away rights to abortion and other violations of religious freedoms.

First of all, he’s addressing his comments to his dinner companion, not the general public. Second, what we consider poverty in this country is laughable in places like, say, most of Central America, most of Africa, etc. I’m not saying there’s no really bad situations in this country. They’re just not as common as the media makes it out. And where situations are really bad, it’s often they are self-induced, such as through drug use or irresponsible money management.

So if someone owns a house and the value goes up by $100,000 that's a bad thing? Also, please understand that oil prices have very little to do with who the President is. OPEC, foreign wars, demand, (down during covid during Trump's final year of his presidency) strategic allow Reserve, housing starts, the stock market, and a few other leading economic indicators are what cause oil prices to fluctuate. Not who's in the White House. The United States is (and has for the past year) been setting all-time records for oil production. I'm sure you don't believe me so Google it.

Obviously it's a good thing for existing homeowners, but it's bad for everyone else. Drastic increases in home prices relative to salaries results in a speculative housing market and you end up with a situation like Toronto where a complete dump is selling for over a million dollars. You make a legitimate point about oil prices. The government is not primarily responsible for the increased price, but they ARE primarily responsible for the average citizen's ability to pay for it. $4/gallon is a lot harder to stomach when my $4 is worth half of what it was 5 years ago due to absurd inflationary policy decisions.
