Generally you can go to your "bank" where you selected your amount for free play and return your free play to the bank. Like you said you cannot cash free play but you should be able to return it to use in another machine

I think you may be mistaken in someplaces allowing freeplay cashouts. I believe some places let you print the tito to move the freeplay to another machine but that tito cant be cashed it can only be played tito (Tick In Ticket Out) is meaning the paper print out for the money.
