That R&T article cemented Ruf's reputation in the US. They were the epitome of speak softly and carry a big stick. For anyone who cares, Ruf is a manufacturer, not really a "tuner". Their cars have Ruf VINs, not Porsche ones (though there are also "modified by Ruf" Porsches). Think about that accomplishment in highly-regulated Germany.
@digitalcamaro97083 жыл бұрын
That's the draw of Porches for me. Their look. Not intimidating, but not exceptionally beautiful or "cute" like a miata. They're just generally good to look at, with a rather meek exterior compared to their more aggressive counterparts from Italy or America. They you see what they can do, or even dare to drive one. Especially a beast with little care for your life like the Yellowbird. After all of that, you look at the car in a different way. Much like an approachable person with a black belt or concealed weapons. Attractive, but commands respect.

Incredible what influence one magazine article can have. Obviously the car had to be fantastic as well but the publicity was awesome.

And sadly, what is R&T today? SUVs and 4x4s were most of the issue that arrived today. Lousy photography that mostly looks underexposed.

Honestly the yellowbird was my very 1st dream car as a teen. I always loved 911's, but I read the Road n Track so many times the cover ripped n fell off. The part they said it would push sideways with every shift had me imagine myself behind the wheel over and over again. Still iconic!!! STILL my dream car
@pannonianbrute3 жыл бұрын
Back in the 80s, the leader of the Midnight Club in Tokyo allegedly spent over $1 million to have a Porsche engineered by the best tuners in Japan that would defeat the Yellowbird, and still couldnt manage. As far as I know, the original car is still around, so it would be cool to finally put the two head-to-head, Wangan style.

RUF it was very ahead of time at that Era, showed the real potential of 930 my favourite Porsche where I learned to drive. Even for a small manufacturer they clearly do magic with porsche's but this was the pinnacle. It is so important that the CTR passed 30 years was produced again, but using the new technology and materials couldn't be more iconic than this. The thing is when a lot of people say that 964 is the best air-cooled Porsche, RUF still today show that really the 930 could be the one with more potential and much lighter than is younger brother. One thing is certain RUF is a true conneisuer for a few decades which makes it a masterpiece.
