Could this be the end for Rufford Ford? Or will this be a temporary fix?
I visit the infamous Rufford Ford once again, but without the splashes, cars and crowds that one would usually see there. I go into detail as to what the police intend to do with the site, with an open question as to what you guys reckon will or should be done.

@@sts1243 There are many places where it is completely safe to go above the limit, on an empty motorway for example. If the limit actually represented the safe speed to travel at then I would agree, but in practice it is simply an arbitrary number decided by counsellors. The real safe speed to travel at constantly changes according to road conditions, vehicle type, and many other factors.

I'm glad its ended. In a recent video from another channel i watched, a driver was blocked from reversing and almost intimidated into driving through when everyone knew it was far too deep. And that's what it became very quickly over the past few months. Spectators egging on unsure motorists to destroy their cars for their pleasure. I'm also glad the neighbours dont have to deal with the circus anymore.

As a local, I'm glad something has been done at last. There have always been a few people driving though when it was too deep or driving too fast. The problem started once the KZfaqrs turned up. Suddenly, large numbers of people started coming from all over the country to drive like an idiot for the cameras. When it was deep, road closed signs were taken down. Someone even opened and then broke the sluice gate mechanism on the weir just to increase the water height. At times, albeit rarely, with all the cars parked on the side of the road, once you got near the ford, there was no space to turn round and drivers felt forced to go through because of the traffic behind them. Regarding the dredging, that was something the council instructed the local farmers to do at their own cost. After having had driveways blocked by parked cars, having had to put fences up to stop people using their land as a toilet and spend time and money clearing up the litter people left behind, the locals were already angry. That's probably one reason the farmers appeared in videos protesting. The ford always had its victims. It has been killing cars for years. The difference was the sudden and massive influx of really dangerous drivers. Probably the best example was the moron who reversed a white Seat with an already damaged bumper through the ford as fast as he could on the wrong side of the road approaching a corner and crowds. It's a shame it had to close. But, things were just getting so out of control that it had to stop before someone was killed. A few idiots ruined it for everyone.

Building a bridge is the simplest solution to this wholly avoidable problem, which results with destroyed cars and higher insurance premiums that all drivers pay for. This ‘heritage’ reasoning which has been stated by the channel host, if legally true, is truly idiotic which reflects poorly on the local community. @@whatyousaidbud Don’t you bloody get it? Due to the a bridge not existing, now the Rufford Lane has been permanently truncated to locals and visitors alike, who now have to take detours. Until a bridge is constructed, this blockage is probably indefinite, as this is the only true solution to the matter. This ‘whatever is old in England can never be improved or replaced’ with something new and improved is stupid backward English thinking. And you wonder why Australia kills England economically. And with test cricket, rugby league and the Commonwealth Games. Australians are not afraid to make the hard decisions with replacing the old and inefficient with the new and more capable. Long overdue and honestly I'm kind of happy it's closed. It started off as someone noticing that a lot of cars were being a bit silly and filming it, but then it just got dangerous. People blasting through in modded landrovers doing like 50-60mph, the huge damage it would be doing to the banks and the wildlife in the area too. It started off as a novelty but too many people making content about it just sort of killed it off.

Much as I enjoyed watching people learning where the cold air intake on BMWs is, this is probably for the best. There was a genuine educational aspect to learning of the dangers of hydrolock. And I liked it when people were sympathetic to the unfortunate drivers. It did though start to get a bit cruel and mocking. But worse, people were driving very recklessly, just to make a big splash; and the audience were encouraging that. We already saw some really scary near misses, and cars bombing past when kids were stood in the ford. I think it was only a matter of time before there was a major incident. So I'm glad we don't have to have that now. Oh, and it's "Sloos" btw 🙂

Aquaplaning and losing control is underlying risk here. There is plenty of traffic calming measures that can be used to minimize the risk of someone driving through too quick, such as chicanes on both sides, etc. While it may annoy the residents having this attention all the time, imagine if you setup a business here selling souvenir's to visitors, you would make a fortune! - Lets also not forget that Café must have received a significant increase in business, which may just be what they needed after the last few years with COVID etc. However its good to see the local council actually listening and trying to help the community. Lets hope they can come up with something that keeps the local residents / business' happy and people can still have some fun! 🚙🌊

When I first started watching it was entertaining but more and more it’s become like a challenge or “rite of passage” for some drivers. In recent videos some of the driving has just been downright dangerous with vehicles going into the water at a ridicules speed. I also think that it was just a matter of time before a “spectator” got hurt or injured by a car or flying car part etc. Lastly, those living next to this ford must be glad that this road has been closed as it must have been a nightmare for them. ……And just for the record I like your narrative with the video.

@@AdamC3046 Building a bridge is the simplest solution to this wholly avoidable problem, which results with destroyed cars and higher insurance premiums that all drivers pay for. This ‘heritage’ reasoning which has been stated by the channel host, if legally true, is truly idiotic which reflects poorly on the local community. This prevailing local attitude and practice is truly apathetic. This scenario would never ever play out in Australia as the local and state governments would never countenance such a stupid state of affairs. 🇦🇺 🦘

Sadly for locals (we have relatives in Rufford) this last year or so has been hell. The biggest cause of this was the 4x4 "wankpanzer" brigade who have been encouraged by the KZfaqrs. They had a meeting with the council last month and it was decided to close the road temporarily. I suspect when it reopens you'll see something very different. A 20mph limit with ANPR enforcement and automatic high water barriers have been talked about. We'll see I suppose.

I believe it would be enough to add 2+2 speedbumps on the pavement before and after the ford and a SIGN with speed limit 10km/h. Plus actual instructions that must be read. For example, a golden rule that water level may not reach front grill upper edge. Literally driver has to measure on spot.

Thanks for the video .There is no need to go through the ford, it is just a short cut. If people are stupid enough to go through the ford when it is deep or go through at speed and knacker their cars, so what? There is a depth gauge at the ford so drivers can see how deep the water is. As for driving through at speed and splashing people, a lot of people are there for that. I see no reason for money to be spent there so traffic can go through the ford but a barrier to prevent stupid drivers, driving up the route to the sluice gates would be sensible.
@BenRelle

Looks to me like the dredging was well overdue. The depth it is today looks reasonable for a normal ford. Perhaps if they'd maintained the banks properly, there wouldn't have been such deep water constantly and therefore less of a spectacle, fewer KZfaqrs and fewer locals getting wound up.

Not really surprising, not in your vids, but I've seen some seriously dangerous driving there, people going insanely fast and almost losing control when they hit the water/when they exit and there's been some seriously close calls with them almost hitting other cars/bystanders, so considering how many children are normally hanging around it was only a matter of time before it either got shut down or someone got seriously hurt, so I'm glad it's been shut down. On top of that, as you mentioned, it was obviously really annoying for those living in the area.

It's a shame its closed but its only a 4 mile detour when we visit the Park so not too bad. I'm disappointed that every time I've been there, I've never seen a single fail!!!
