yea, sometimes the better the bass player, the harder it is to recognise because the bass binds so well with the guitar and drums to make a bigger sound.

I totally agree , people sleep on V-man. He has added a lot of flavor to the bass lines .. don’t get me wrong Paul did PHENOMENAL. Just like Joey , but with the years when you add different styles it gives it a new feel .. I’m happy with both V-man & Jay 🤘🏾

If only slipknot songs had such bass in their mix. Bass in their songs always sounds weak. Once I was listening Psychosocial in my car and compared to other songs the bass was too weak so I decided to play some "Dark skies" (Fit For a King). That's the album where bass sounds absolutely beautiful

It's honestly an awesome thing to actually see bass players getting recognized again... Because in a world where we have 8, 9 and 10 string guitars the bass is stuffed down in the mix but people fail to realize how important the bass really is to any song... The structure that the bass guitar brings is like the spine or the balls to any song and without it music would just be flat (not a music pun) but I'm being serious, I know that people like Glenn Fricker have their stance on how they feel about bass players but people fail to realize how important bass players really are to a song. You are doing an amazing job bro! Like I said on the Solway Firth cover... I don't know how you're doing it but you've managed to capture Paul Gray's essence when you play the bass guitar. I have seen tons of bass covers of Slipknot's songs and you have that energy in your finger tips. It cannot be explained or contained but you captured it.

I find it particularly difficult to isolate the bass from metal, unless it's leading the song like For Whom the Bell Tolls. This is nice.

Thank you, isolating bass can be hard some times but on the other hand, if it's too hard to isolate then it probably is because it's glued very nicely with the rhythm guitar and drums... Meaning you can use those instrument as your reference instead 💭💭 (at least for me 🙈🙈

You can train your ear to pick apart songs and isolate each instrument. Listening to classical is pretty helpful as there tends to be a lot going on.

@@tbeard5458 I only mentioned metal because it's only with metal. I guess when it comes to my catalogue of music a lot of the bass players play the lower strings/notes. Also if they're playing the same melody as the guitar that's no help either...

@@Floydfan47 I suppose that's where the key to a good bass tone is. I've been listening to an album called Red Harvest by bloodsimple which has been great for hearing how bass can work in a song. The riffs are really enjoyable too.
