Fantastic stat I only realised recently. Between 1999 Rugby world cup to the end of the 2003 Rugby world cup England never lost a game when they started with Wilkinson, Hill, Back, Dallaglio and Martin Johnson at 4. It shows just how important those 5 were to the England team.

Hill, Back and Dallaglio vs Betsen, Magne and Harinordoquy. Unreal. So many incredible flankers were around then.

I’m at nearly 70 mins and just one England sub made. Just shows how much the games changed in under 20 years. More Subs slower scrums and line out set ups and I’m pretty sure these older style players could kick for touch much further. Miss the old game

Classic wet weather rugby by England. Wilkinson's kicking is impeccable. As Usual.

What a game. Now we have 3-minute scrums, caterpillar rucks, morriss-dance lineouts, endless reviews, plays for penalties, whooping, and players that can benchpress 300kg but can't kick a ball 50 metres. What the hell happened to our sport?

Swing Low in the Aus/NZ semi was because you had to buy a package of tickets for the finals so there were a lot of English there. Of course we got a lot of boos for singing it, which funnily enough made us sing louder. Who’d have thought it. Watching the game back, they turned the mike’s down in the section we were mostly in, so you could hear it as clearly on tv.

Hard not to see it as a deliberate kick. Betsen was not looking at him, he was lying on the ground beside the ruck and kicked out. Heat of the moment idiocy from a bit of a thug.

Best of all the unsportsman-like sniping of the Aussie commentators. They gag & spit like Sheila's but in the end they swallowed everything the "ageing English forwards" pumped down their throats. I'll wager not one of 'em ever watched this tournament again.

I don't understand why we don't see people using drop-goals more often in rugby these days. Look at how many points Wilkinson kicks from drop-goals in this match. Edit: nine points from drop-kicks in this match for JW.
@ThePereubu1710 Жыл бұрын
There are a couple of reasons for this, the main one being the speed and organisation of modern defences leaves less time for the drop-kick.

The crazy thing about this world cup is England didnt play well in it bar this game really. Against Samoa we made really hard work of it and against Wales we were really poor against an average Welsh side. Going into this match, I remember we weren't all that confident. In reality, as a team, England were head and shoulders above all others. They had beaten every side home and away (bar South Africa as they hadn't played them away but had destroyed them at Twickenham) in the last couple of years. Even in the final, Australia really shouldn't have been anywhere near. South Africa were easily dismissed in the group stage. Also a few months prior they beat Australia and New Zealand in back to back tests in the southern hemisphere. Virtually unheard of
@EllliotJackRussel14 жыл бұрын
Wales 2003 was not "average". They played magnificent rugby vs NZ and Eng at RWC03. As stated by Steve Hansen, these performances led the way for the 05 Grand Slam
@judaspriest49574 жыл бұрын
@@EllliotJackRussel1 I'm not doubting that Wales had a decent tournament, however they weren't a great side. They had just finished bottom of the 6 nations losing every single game

Grow up is all I have to say. I know you have seem to have an inferiority complex because of your history but you shoudn't, you've done amazing things from a sporting perspective, despite your massively racist attitude as a nation (remarkably given your history as a nation!). 25- years and you're kicking our arses at most sports
@Talbot68328 жыл бұрын
+David Davies I'm sure if we English had inferiority complexes and a point to prove then we'd be much better too. As it stands, the great game of civilisation was basically won by us so... meh to sport I guess. Slowly starting to change now.
