You can't make a VW Beetle perform like a Ferrari. I like the series but that rifle should have a fun red dot for plinking. Put the Leopold on a Ruger Precision. 😃 ================================= I was trying to find someone building a brass catcher for the RAR.

You are absolutely correct. Ruger designed the RAR to be an economical, reliable, entry-level 22 rimfire rifle, and they succeeded. It has never been my intention to turn it into a Ferrari but, rather, to see what can be done to get the most out of the VW. As I wrap up this series, I want to emphasize that point but also to point out that while some of my modifications are not feasible, economically, they are still worthwhile, academically. We can learn and apply this knowledge to other firearms.

Good info. My intentions with the out of the box RAR. 22LR is to eventually get sub 1" groups at 50 yards. If I can get 1" groups at 100 yards I'll let you know.

Wish you would have had this video out a few years back when I bought a 22WMR American. It had fail to fires non stop right out of the box. Super accurate though! The first 100 yard 6 shot group with hornady vmax was .323”! Anyways, I disassembled the bolt group since it looked like light primer strikes. I found a chunk of sheared off metal inside along with it packed with thick black grease. Also the bolt housing and striker assembly looked like it was all gouged up and made with cave man tools! I filed, stoned, sanded, and polished the parts. Cleaned off off the grease and reinstalled using slip 2000 EWL. Took care of the FTFs accept for the Winchester 2250 fps varmint ammo. That stuff had faulty primers which Winchester confirmed after I sent the ammo back to them. The other 5 brands all fired 100% after the bolt fix. It also has a real tight chamber. After 40 to 50 rounds I get stuck casings. The chamber needs to be cleaned after every outing or there’s issues with stuck cases.

Have had all my rifles apart in the last two days and last night I dreamed I found a pin on the floor so today they all came back apart again. Fortunately every is in place with no missing pieces.

John, your series on 22 rimfire was the most educational videos I've ever seen. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I am definitely a new subscriber.

Thank you very much for the kind compliment. I have plans to make several more; if it weren't for that darned job of mine that keeps getting in the way.

Try using Lapua center x ammo. I've done the deburring that you have showed and I'm shooting Lapua at half inch groups at 50 yards with the same exact rifle. Also sk rifle match does very good. This rifle likes slower ammo. I've tested over 20 different different types. But your knowledge of the deburring was very helpful. Thank you

Any accuracy increase potential in truing up the bolt face to the barrel chamber face, both in spacing and in geometry?

Possibly, but I doubt I could ever accumulate enough data to demonstrate that the modifications you suggest make a statistically significant improvement in this rifle design.

@@dauntlessendeavors1000 Okay cool. I'd found information elsewhere on the M77/17/22 rifle where shimming was used in the bolt to tighten up the headspacing on cartridges, which significantly improved accuracy. A few thousandths here, a few thousandths there. Sometimes its just a game of incremental changes adding up to accuracy. That's all the expensive stuff factories often avoid, to bring customers reduced cost.

Hello, thank you for a great video. I have Ruger American 22LR rum fire and when use bolt to take the bullet in the chamber is fine but when after that bolt doesn’t lock and with slight touch bolt moves back and eject the bullet. So when there is bullet in the chamber bolt locks but when a bullet inside the barrel the bolt doesn’t lock and moves and loss. Do you proem is from bolt or safety lock or else! Thanks

It is very difficult to diagnose the problem based on your description. I highly recommend you take the rifle to a qualified gunsmith and have them take a look at it. That will be the fastest and safest way to get your rifle back up and going again.
