Fitting new Defender rear doors with Exmoor Trim handles and hinges.

Our second row doors are well overdue replacement after 25 years. We've fitted some after market galvanised framed doors and finished them with Exmoor Trims sublime CNC machined door handles and hinges. This is a step by step guide on how to strip out the window regulator, window and all the window channels and successfully hang a new door. These doors close better than ANY Defender door I've ever touched!

I have just done passenger side front and rear door replacements on my 2013 Puma Defender ❤110. My new doors were all steel. Got them painted, and proceeded with front door first. No major issues. One tip is to hold the glass up in the frame with tape running from front to rear face over the top, allowing you to remove hardware and not having the glass drop down in the process! Glass removal is TIGHT. Was worried for a while, and I also added some tape over metal edges where glass rubs on its way out. Rear door check strap bracket/channel was non-existent on the new door, and old one has this piece riveted with the biggest/hardest rivets I have seen. They are made of titanium I think! Major hassle to swop over. Also, I forgot to replace the rear door B Pillar micro switch push plate…and later realised this is essential to ensure the central locks operate correctly. Hope this helps someone else.

The last owner must have put new felt and runners in that door, mine was nowhere near as rusty but my glass just fell out and luckily I caught it with my foot, I'm definitely getting those handles and hinges when I start putting mine back together, just waiting for a couple of warm days to get the painting finished off

Nice job, doing mine once I’ve sprayed them, good tip is to check the door handles fit correctly before spraying, I had to fettle my new doors a bit to get the Optimill handles to fit, just glad I did before painting.

A year or two ago i kept seeing ads popup from a new manufacturer of Defender doors (maybe from eastern Europe or far east?). They were taking "early interest requests" at the time, then nothing. I can find no reference now. Maybe a scam OR have the likes of Britpart cobbled the supply chain ?

Any ideas as to a rough cost to get the doors sprayed (Epson Green)? I'm considering getting the galvo doors, but having never done anything like this, fear getting ripped-off when getting quotes ( they see a non-pro coming😢)

For a good job tidying up the construction etc I'd say £200 - £300 a door.

I’ve got to replace all 4 doors on my defender. They are 27yrs old and totally rotted. No matter how much repair work I’ve done on them it’s too late for them to be saved. Price for new doors is staggering and thats basic and not galvanised. What are the thoughts about fitting series doors to defenders ? Almost half the cost with glass included. Cheap skate maybe but when on a budget these things have to be considered. Great video and totally jealous of those doors 👍🏻

I think series doors are a great idea. Although all the new hardware like latches etc put the price up a fair bit. But hang tight for a month or so as our new project is getting that exact conversion.
