ULTIMATE Nissan X-trail off-road compilation! Most capable small SUV?
The mighty X-trail is one of the most under rated soft roaders. It's one of the most practical all around small SUV hence it is popular with backpackers and budget overlanders. Its good 4wd system takes it further despite not having low range gearing. The auto transmission (not CVT) of this model enhances its capability as it acts as a torque multiplier. It gives you the ability to maintain low revs without burning the clutch. It helps maintain slower speeds without stalling the engine despite not having low range gearing.
Despite it's off-road abilities, it is still more of a car than a full size SUV. This makes it a very practical vehicle for all around use. Basically an in between of a car and a full size 4wd.
All modifications done to my vehicle can be found in my MODs playlist below.

I bought my XTrail last year, was completely ripped off from the dealers had to spend same amount I paid in repairs but I’m so glad I did. Such a great truck, handles amazingly and is awesome off road. When the back seats are down it has more space than an L200 or any rival. 🎉

I'd love to see a super in-depth comparison between the XTrail and the Outlander as softroaders. I have had an Outlander for 6-7 years and have been astonished by the locking SAWD system. It's actually a shame their rallying technology is now being wasted on what are basically family haulers. My only complaint about the Outlander regarding softroading is that is has an unnecessarily long front nose. It reduces the approach angle. Other than that, I'd take it all day long for softroading (even over Subarus because it seats seven/has more storage room). But maybe the XTrail would give it a run for its money.

Got one the other day. A 2004 2.2 CDI with only 100k on the meter. I guess it's the one with the unreliable timing chain tensioner? Bo rust and no problems so far. Good to drive and does well on ice and snow. The extra clearance is helpful in the winter :)

Thinking seriously about buying an X Trail of around the same vintage. My job requires something that can handle some off-road driving, but not enough to warrant purchasing a true 4x4. Really good to see these videos that prove off-roading has far more to do with driving technique and skills, than the vehicle.

Nice vid Marvin and yes the T30 x trail is a great all round vehicle for touring and off-roading. Having had one I can vouch for that. Unfortunately my vehicle had an head issue and I sold it. I'm now currently in a Honda CRV AWD and I have found it it to be very similar in how it performs off-road, actually I'm very happy with it. Just came back from Gordon County, it did well in the play pen🙂.

Great thanks! I enjoyed driving T30 X-trail with an automatic gearbox for 5 years and now have to sell it because last year's repairs cost 3K euros. All was logical, the car is 17 years old. Nevertheless, it was a decent experience that turned me to buy a more usual car for the city residents, the estate body.
