Ruislip Lido Railway | New track tamping machine

Күн бұрынIn January 2020 we placed the order for the Ruislip Lido Railway’s new track tamping machine. Little did we know back then that with the coronavirus pandemic about to hit the world, it would take a full 18 months to have the machine built and delivered to us.
We have now had it a couple of months and we are finally able to show it off after some training and initial use. In this video the Project Leader and our Permanent Way Supervisor Chris explains the procurement process and design of the tamping machine before showing us how it works. Footage of it in use on one of the sections of our line rounds the video off so sit back and enjoy!

When I was a volunteer there many moons ago, we lined and levelled the track with jacks and packing shovels, guided by the Mk.1 human eyeball.

Very cool to see a "mini" tamper! As a signal guy , I work with full size track machines all the time, and its amazing to see a small gauge Tamper , and with a laser level to boot...very cool! Thanks for the tour! Cheers Gregg.

As a retired railroad worker, I suggest using the rail clamp each time a tie or sleeper is tamped. This will help keep the machine from derailing when the tamping heads lower. I was watching the wheels come off the rails and one wheel's flange was about halfway over the rail. From experience, rerailing equipment is not fun or easy.

Amazing machine. Would be amazing to have one of this in our 10 inch gauge railway, Tren de Palau. Here we still do it all manually and, as we dont have many members, it's a painfully slow process.

Think about using a 66 or 70mm circular bubble level to give both cross level and a level indication at the same time . They are cheap and worth a try on the machine and big enough to see.

I use one on my Gauge 1 track and it gives great results.

Do you have an email address for Temo? I have not been able to find a contact. I am a volunteer at the Mill Creek Central railroad in the USA. We have about 5 miles of track and we do everything by hand. I am invetigating alternatives. Thanks

I'm sorry but it's disappointing that you have the great new machine and it's covered in hydraulic oil, how hard would it be to keep it clean. You have a kid there, make it his job to wipe the machine down after every use. Take some pride in your equipment.

@@HowShouldIKnow6543 If I was there I'd be happy to wipe it down, and tighten the bolts so it stops leaking. I restore antique machines so it just bugs me when I see nice equipment not being taken care of.
