Had a 50MPH slide down the road in a rukka nivala. I walked away with no damage to me. Jacket and trousers are worn away and have lots of damage, but did the job designed to do. Purchased a Nivala 2 to replace it. Old kit was 5 years old and still working well

I've had the original Nivala trousers for over 3 years and the Nivala2 jacket for almost 12 months. I bought them from sportsbikeshop in their November black friday sales and got a further 10% discount through my insurers. I got a great deal on both occasions and spent less than a total of £1800 so it pays to wait. Like you, I've ridden in all weathers and never had an issue. I wouldn't have anything else now. 😀

I've had Rukka, Dianise and some other brand, all technical kit over the years and they've all let me down after a period of time, I now have Merlin waxed cotton kit for the spring autumn and winter seasons and it's brilliant. Absolutely 100% waterproof, warm and all the Armour, can be re-waxed so ans so on. For summer I wear different kit, a collection of different jackets jeans and it all adds up to a price still hundreds cheaper than 2 grand. But then again I don't ride a GS...

I started my street riding career 48 years ago and I’ve seen riding gear evolve from “fashion leather” and waxed cotton to the modern textiles. The quality of riding gear today is amazing, but you do have to pay the price for quality and durability, however it’s worth every penny! Having unfortunately “danced with the devil” in an intersection altercation many years ago I was glad I was wearing modern riding gear. (And it’s even better now than it was then.)

I was just looking at your video as I was looking around for another suit. Thanks for all the info and explanation. Rukka does however also have a 5 year warranty in Europe, at least in the Netherlands that is. I have a Rukka Realer, I bought it, I think about 7 years ago and my wife has the ladies equivalent of that suit. I bought it when I was still working and rode 55k km annually and it still looks like new. My wife's suit is also looking brand new. They never leaked. I destroyed the zipper, user error, and even that was repaired under warranty (4 years after I bought it) Now I have a second suit, I use that for travelling, the Stadler Tour Evo, which has two layers, the summer suit and the outer Goretex layer. After riding from southern Argentina to northern Alaska last year, it looks worse and more worn than my old Rukka. But I do like the concept as no suit caters to all climates and the Rukka is just too warm in summer or desert climates. There's always decisions to be made... Looking at Klim too.

@gttpete 10 ай бұрын
I have the previous version of that suit, the Nivala 1, it feels extremely safe, I've ridden through horrendous rain storms in it and not a single drop of moisture has ever come through it, it's wonderfully comfortable, in combination with the supplied stuff able down jacket, it's warm enough for me down to about 5c, after that, I use it in conjunction with a Keis heated jacket, I wash it with nick wax detergent and waterproofing agent after every 3 rides and it looks almost like new after 2 years use, I'd recommend this suit in a heartbeat to anyone.

After years of riding motorcycles i can say is investing in gear for ur life is much more important than investing in motorcycle accessories and options, if u have the money go for the best gear available just bought my second rukka, I had crashed 3 times in 26 years and was lucky to wear the best riding gears that saved me from serious injuries 👍🤲

I've owned 3 rukka outfits to date. I still have my old 2001 RUKKA drop liner Goretex outfit, one of my Son's is using it at the moment. Still like new, only one zip tab has failed but zip still works fine. I've had an Armaxion Goretex Pro outfit that was perfect but I put some weight on and had to replace it. I'm using a Rukka Cosmic outfit currently, it's 10 years old this year and is still working well in all weathers. Rukka quality stands the test of regular use over years of riding all year round. I cover 15-18k miles a year on average. 🏍️💨👍

Had a Rukka suit a few years ago and they are very expensive but last longer than most gear. Only downside was in warmer weather, there's a limit to what gore-tex can evaporate.

Bought my Nivala 2 suit for £1600 brand new. It was in a sale, had a voucher and a 10% discount code that needed to be used so was a bit of a perfect storm. It’s my first Rukka suit, owned loads of different brands over the years and this is better than all of them. Only thing I don’t like is the neck. Feels too tight when zipped up and makes it hard to turn my head. Other than that, great bit of kit and 2 years on I don’t regret my purchase. So much so I bought their mesh jacket for summer. I don’t understand people saying they have had one and it has let them down. Keep Goretex clean and it will work. It also comes with a Goretex Lifetime Warranty to keep you dry and an extended Rukka warranty when you register it (specific to uk). I do wear the jacket with a pair of riding jeans quite a bit (so not with the suit pants) and would recommend the Halvarssons belt zip connector to zip the jacket to your pants.

I have had both Nivalas and love them! I commute daily so the price is worth it given the comfort and protection levels. When I sell on the previous versions i always get a decent price - £650 for my Nivala 1 so something of this quality is always desirable. Buy cheap and it’s worth nothing second hand. Add the 6 year warranty and it’s overall a compelling package.

Have to agree the investment is worth it if like you say you are a rider that does many thousands of miles a year all year riding in all weather's and the six year warranty is great. For some one like me who does between 7 and 10 k per year spread over 12 months in all weather I've found my halvarssons wien jacket and wish trousers great and totally waterproof in 4 hours of motor way riding in torrential rain for £900 All so I think if you commute fair distance all year you could justify the price of the nivala, good review because you have used the suit all year in all conditions

I have a Rukka Argonaut jacket which is one of rukkas original goretex pro shell and it’s still going strong after 13 years, the build quality is insanely good. I do worry about whether the armour will need replacing. The right arm sprung a leak after 3 winters and rukka fixed it under warranty, giving me a different jacket to use in meantime. The jacket has always been quite stiff though and having tried a Nivala 2 can see its way more comfortable. It’s just the price😢. TBH I mostly wear my leather jacket with a Scott waterproof over that, never lets a drop in.

I have the new Voyage-R set and it’s brilliant. Totally waterproof, comfortable and mysteriously seems really light when it’s on. Upgraded from a ‘starter’ quality touring jacket & trouser set that were good but didn’t really keep out the rain so needed a waterproof over jacket. My wife reckons as the Rukka set costs 5x the price it bl**dy well should!

Good review. One thing is I don't accept that Rukka didn't apply for CE 2. That basically means they don't think it will pass which is fair enough but potential buyers need not gloss over that fact. Full disclosure: I own a Rukka Goretex Pro jacket that I am totally happy with and use it in winter with a Helite vest. I use the Rukka since I like having a heated vest underneath which eliminates to option of using Tech Air 5 vest.
@mancavemoto
@mancavemoto 10 ай бұрын
Its not necessarily a case that they didnt think it would pass, they thought that A classification was all that was required given its overall protection. But thats just what was told to me and i can't determine if there were other motives or not. But as I said in the video I've worn and seen higher rated jackets that have minimal level 1 armour, that wouldnt give me the confidence this does. It opens a can of worms in terms of the classifications, is it just as simple to that AAA is better than AA which in turn is better than A? I don't know the true answer to that, and we definitely need safety testing done, but I don't think its always as black & white

Relatively new to your channel and enjoying your reviews. You addressed the price point well and I do wonder why reviewers bother. This type of gear costs what it does because of all the reason you outline. I don't necessarily agree with those that say if you're riding in all weathers, all year, doing high mileage then it can be justified. Justified to who? People have the money they have and they make choices. I have a friend who has two £40K BMWs on his drive but would never buy kit like this to ride his bike. In all the reviews I've watched and read about this gear and Klim etc. nobody has ever said it's not worth the money or it is poor quality in anyway. I have a friend who came on a bike trip last year in Klim gear. We all immediately noted the feeling of quality, number of features to make it suitable for more riding conditions and how it reacted to torrential rain (water ran off it). One of the others had this exact suit. It was the same. The venting on the Klim was better and I don't know why Rukka continue to make everything predominantly in black. 😄😄😄

Exactly the point I was making in the video, the CE ratings do seem to be skewed more towards abrasion resisitance. To be honest if a suit saves me from injury in a crash, but its toast, i'd be happy with that.

I had a Heine Gericke leather goretex laminate jacket and trousers and they were very good, but you couldn't wear it in the summer, even with the vents open it was too hot and sweaty. After many years the jacket started to leak at the right elbow, and I've switched to separate waterproofs. Definitely more faff. The best part of the all in one is just chucking on one jacket whatever the weather (really hot days excluded) and not having to think about it. The Rukka cost though, ouch.

I've owned a Rukka Armaxis suit for over 5 years and most importantly it's kept me dry........ at a price. At 4.5 years old the waterproof zip failed (a week point in my opinion) but Rukka and the Sportsbikeshop sorted it with a replacement jacket while mine was repaired. Rukka has been the only thing that's kept me dry, it's still a good jacket now. Downside is it's simply too hot for comfortable mid summer or European riding so I've not used it on recent tours, preferring vented jackets & jeans with waterproofs when needed. Would I spend that again??? probably not

While it’s waterproof and warm (albeit with poor abrasion resistance), the Nivala’s price puts it against bespoke textiles from Hideout and BKS Made-to-Measure. That’s too tall an order for Rukka - it isn’t in their league for materials, protection or made-to-measure comfort.

Hideout are close to me and i know them pretty well. They make some incredible kit. Whilst Rukka can match in terms of materials they obviously can't compete with the fit of a made to measure garment. Plus i have a lightweight summer jacket i can pair with the rain jacket and quilted jacket too. To be honest i can't spare £1400 for a jacket, but is that one £1000 better? Especially when it's so short - crotch leak and warmth in sub zero temperatures? I tour with people who wear Rukka and Klim. Klim leaks. Those with Rukka still wear rain jackets over the top. No CE2 back and limb protection is a rip off at that price. Why don't they partner with Forcefield instead of D30 so we can get the best protection. Back protection is the next important thing after a helmet. Even more important than abrasion resistance. So I think the folks at Rukka focus purely on waterproof protection and warmth at the expense of everything else. You're better off buying any other gore-tex laminated jacket and suit for around £1100. That'll give you enough change to buy a heated jacket + a Shoei neotec 2/3 helmet + Forcefield Pro Sub 4k CE2 back protection which let's less than 4kn force on impact. I own the Dianese Antarctica Gore-tex which is as expensive as the Rukka and I regret buying it because the material around the limbs is does not stretch at all and this limits your movements to the point of getting cramps as you cannot bend your legs properly if you buy the right size suite. You'd have to size up big time. I think REV'IT and Alpinestars are a no nonsense garuanteed quality, cheap alternative and don't see the justification for £2500 suits, those kind of prices make a mockery out of motorcycling.

If the whole suit is laminated, how come the pockets are only shower proof? surely a potential leak point. I ride thousands of miles all year round and did consider buying this suit but then came to my senses and decided to keep all my riding suits I have collected over the years and invest £50 on Ex NAVY/RAF Goretex over Jacket and Trousers and they do exactly the same job in extreme weather. Plus you you don’t need to be wearing sweaty waterproof clothing when not needed, but they are there to use stashed in my top box if the weather changes. Proofs you don’t need to spend thousands or try and keep up with the GS/Rukka clan, as mentioned all suits fail in the end.
@mancavemoto
@mancavemoto 9 ай бұрын
Thats down to the zips and positioning. I not had any water get in, but then i've always zipped them up properly. There are plenty of alternative options out there this is just one solution that I've reviewed. Some people prefer a laminate suit so they can ride through mixed conditions without stopping to put on/take off oversuits, and having somewhere to store them. As you know Gore-Tex is breathable, so your not left wearing sweaty clothing.

I invested in heated gear Set of waterproofs that can be rolled up and put in your too box in the summer or wear as a wind breaker. Never let me down.

I’m not trying to sell it. It’s a kit review, one of many on my channel, which cover all types and prices. I’m not saying it’s the best solution, it’s a solution, for those willing to spend the money.

@@mancavemoto sorry didn’t mean sell the item but the justification for spending a huge amount of money for this product that I’ve never needed in the 40 years of biking

Ah i get you. yep its difficult to justify that kind of spend. Its a very good suit, but there are plenty of alternatives at much lower cost. Not all as technical, but technical enough!

Yes indeed too pricey for me, appreciate you spending a lot of time wearing the kit before a review. Important also I feel, that kit 'is' comfy from the beginning, anything that starts stiff but gets comfy, will gradually become loose (oh err!!) so only a 3rd of the time is it right. Helmets especially. Thanks again very thorough review. 👍

I sweat like a pig, I think I’d be wet from the inside out. But at those prices I’ll just have to do with what I can afford

You are encouraging it and all the others buying Rukka at such ridiculous prices and if you will pay over £1000 for a pair of trousers I will maintain you are a mug.@@mancavemoto
