No moral teachings are lock on its own because every language is own by God. They come in their own forms so that the people of its language understood. Moral ethics is universal. I think Rumi's poetry is embedded in Islamic teachings focusing on one's character development. And another I do not have any judgment towards Rumi because I don't have the right, only Allah SWT has. All I can say Rumi is an enlightened soul.

And his encounter with Şemsi Tebrizi, what made Mevlana the man we know of today according to general acquiesence, happened in Konya which was the place in Anatolia where he started to spread his beliefs. As far as I know he was not a extraordinary figure before he came to Anatolia and didn't wrote any books (I would really like to know if he did and what books he wrote). In fact there is little to no information about his past in Khorasan. Although he wrote most of work in Persian , he wasn't born or raised in Persia, instead he was born in Harzemşah state which was also a Turkish empire, the people of this state spoke Turkish. To sum up, he found Mevlevilik (his school of belief and all its parctices such as whirling Dervish, maybe we can translate it as Mevlevism?) in Anatolia, with Turkish state support (he was friends with the queen who also sponsored his burial) with Turkish influence and Turkish students.
