Comparing apples to oranges. I know Rumpl also has a down blanket as well, would have liked to have seen comparisons between the two.
@MetroOnTheMove
@MetroOnTheMove 2 жыл бұрын
Hello and sorry that I didn't have the down Rumpl . My suggestion was based on the fact that these are similar in terms of price and warmth. The down blanket by Get Out Gear is cheaper, lighter and packs down smaller which is better for backpacking. The Rumpl is better for car camping, shorter hikes but is more expensive, weighs more and doesn't pack down as small.

Hi. Nice review. I have a smaller version of both synthetic and down. The 38x52 Rumple, and a 60x70 light down quilt by Blueridge Home fashions. By carefully rolling the compressed Rumple into the down quilt, I can fit both into the stuff sack for the down quilt, and have a two for one package that is about football sized! A definite plus if/when space is at a premium. I have a much larger down quilt, but after a while, things get so big that it turns into sleeping bag size, and I thought that these smaller sized quilts were to make it possible to 'bivy' without carrying a lot of inconvenient bulk? Anyways, cool video and good advice about cleaning.

@MetroOnTheMove

Completely understand. The comparison was based on price point and temp rating since they are close. Hoping to get a test sample from Rumpl for a puffy blanket to do a future comparison. Will release another video comparison when this happens.

I want a blanket that I can use while Kayak camping in pretty warm enviornments. Is the Get Out Gear blankets bag waterproof? Can I fold it and use the blank more like a sleeping bag? Are there snaps around the edges so it can be snapped together at night?
@MetroOnTheMove
@MetroOnTheMove 2 жыл бұрын
This is a down blanket, so I don't recommend it for any water related activities. I use this as a sleeping quilt in the summer months. There are two snaps that turn the blanket into a poncho but it doesn't connect all the way up.

I bought a fluffy fleece blanket at my neighbors garage sale for $2. Weighs only 13 ounces and kept me plenty warm down to 55 degrees. And fleece if wet doesnt get heavy like down and can still keep in some warmth, and dries quicker. Fleece for the win in my opinion. Both those blankets are over priced for me! oh and machine wash and dry, very easy.

@@MetroOnTheMove Real down feels so much warmer to me. Years ago, I bought a downthrow that weighs almost nothing at Bed Bath & Beyond. It is a no-name but genuine down and I genuinely get so warm under it that it is the blanket I reach for through December. Before then, I was a Polartec fleece person.

@@wishingb5859 glad you have found something that works for you! Down is super warm, just be careful to not get it wet. I’ve got a lot of different options and the get out gear is my go to for mild nights on trail. I use it in the late spring to early fall.

A down blanket for under $100 seems too good to be true. Others from more popular brands are 2 or 3x more and I think the reason for that is because the down is likely not ethically sourced, which to me is a deal breaker. I tried finding info on it but nowhere on their website does it say the down is RDS (Responsible Down Standard) certified.

Hello and thank you for the comment. This piece of gear has been with me for almost two years and I still use it to this day. I use this down item in the late spring, summer early fall months and has been an excellent down option under $100. In regards to your standards for down, I would encourage you to contact Get Out Gear to confirm as I am not sponsored nor work for them. Hope you enjoy the blanket!

Why didn’t you compare the Get Out double puffy which is synthetic to the Rumple synthetic? Synthetic vs synthetic? Why compare down to synthetic?
@MetroOnTheMove
@MetroOnTheMove 8 ай бұрын
At the time of the video, it was to show what you can get at that price point and to showcase the benefits and cons of down versus synthetic. Agree that it would be better to have synthetic to synthetic as an comparison.

Good question! The point of this video was to review two types of blankets at a similar price point under $100. Personally, I think the RUMPL down blanket is over priced and if you are in that market, I would recommend getting an Enlightened Equipment quilt.
