Thank you for this tutorial. I just got into Run 8 v2 and Zusi 3 (Hobby). This has been of great help. Good care and keep up the great work. BTW nice to see some FSX simmers on Run 8 too ;-)

Just the right amount of detail at just the right places, allowed me to assemble, place, run, and stop a train effortlessly. Thank you so much, this is how a “getting started” video should be. One little thing is the use of the main period key to bleed the Indy brakes... Not in my Run8 docs, neither the keymap nor the list of default bindings. And the broken rule you talk about is “power braking” right? Applying air with any power (notch 1 in this case)?

Coming back to Run 8 after more than a year away, found this vid again and a lot came back to me instantly, for which I am grateful :) Something that didn't occur to me before, but can you elaborate on why most railroads don't allow the use of the air brake for a stop? Or did I misunderstand and it is it that you cannot use the air if you've got power applied? Thanks again!

It's about fuel conservation with the big railroads. You stay in power to brake to a stop or power brake through a bowl. It's a better way to run depending on the train make up but the pencil pushers don't like it.

I have a question. I'm a beginner, so please forgive me for asking basic or the obvious stuff. Anyway, you mentioned that when you get to a downhill section or grade you can always use the airbreaks, but IRL you can not. So, the right procedure would be to set up dynamic breaking, right ? I'm not an engineer nor do I have any real life experience with american freight trains in general. I'm from The Netherlands (Holland). But I do love american freight trains, especially the really big, 2 miles or so, freight trains.

Yes, unless you have a good feel for what the train will do, the best practice would be to setup the dynamics. Its always better to attack a downhill too slow than to try it too fast.

Indeed. Lots of kinetic energy being directed to the cars / wagons and goods when sudden loss of velocity occurs and inertia forces. Also, I imagine, it won't do any good to the couplers and the wear of the wheels (spots of flattening on the wheels). Btw, sorry for my spelling mistakes, I used 'breaks' instead of 'brakes'. dear brother used the dynamic break then possible air break auto mode is on then sport the breaking sport speed is control then auto air break is off . dynamic break is manual off ?

Im used to playing Railworks, Train Sim and Heavy Haul, now I want to try Run8. You can play single player only right with auto random traffic?

Yes you can play single player with AI traffic or multiplayer on a server.

Its probbably a licensing issue, With your run 8 receipt you should have a transaction Id included, copy that then go into run 8, press f1 and go to the last tab, there's a little box where you paste that number. After this everything should work.

Hi, how do you compare Run 8 V2 with V1 and Train Sim World CSX Heavy haul!? Do Run 8 have fully interactive cabin switches!?

Hari Krishnan CSX Heavy Haul is a very limited game with a bad physics model. It looks good, but traing handling is very strange on it. V2 is a graphics upgrade to V1 with some extras. If you want a simulator that is close to reality, go with Run 8.

I should also add that most of the important cabin switches work in Run 8, not all of them. I should also add they are planning to release V3 late this year/early next year that will add a lot of the stuff they have not been able to put into V2.

Hey, im getting a pc built and i know run 8 needs 3 gigs of ram. If my pc has 4 gigs of ram would the game strain it? And would it run fine?

From my experience the game tends to be more CPU heavy than anything else. Without knowing the other specs I couldn't tell you.

Not sure about the graphics card but my friend said it could run skyrim perfect on high graphics. And the cpu is a 3.1ghz quad core

also when im on SHIFT+f12 to fly around while setting my train up, sometimes it randomly drops the camera view and i cant move faster, i cant fly anymore, and i cant control the train after...

Verify your license in the F1 tab. You should have received a transaction ID with your receipt for Run 8, put that in the box and it should fix your problem.

OK, I have searched the Run8 website, the Depot website and done a web search to find out: how do you blow the damned horn on this sim? It's not mapped to any key on the key bindings pdf on the Run8 website and nobody mentions it but you are doing it in this video. How hard would it be for someone to create a user's manual, like you get with a camera or a car on how to do this. I mean, your video is helpful but I don't think I should have to watch hours of videos on the web to understand how to use this simulator.

The horn is mapped to the spacebar. The bell is mapped to the delete key on the numpad. I did a getting started video if you want to check that out. I think I went over the main keys you will use.

That's usually if you've not actually purchased (and installed) the NS (or UP, BNSF or whatever) liveries; they'll appear in the chooser, but unless you own them, they'll have the generic Run8 livery on them. Affects all rolling stock. If you *have* purchased and installed them, that's a different matter.

You need to validate your license. You should have gotten an email with you license number, you have to enter in the game.

So, if I have v1, there is no a free update to v2, but I have to purchase v2 now? When I tried to install any of the updates from the website to my v1 installation, the game just wouldn't run anymore.

I'm pretty sure you cannot get V1 anymore and if you did you would need a license. Best thing you can do is contact Run 8 Studios directly.
