Mark and Vice Chair of the Florida Chapter of Backcountry Hunters and Anglers, Richard Martinez, review a few minimalist run and gun style turkey vests including the Nomad Pursuit, Nomad MG, Knight and Hale RNG-200, and the Alps Outdoors Long Spur. Mark is interested in these smaller vests because of the minimal amount of material which he believes will make it more comfortable in the warm temperatures of Florida. That look at the features, ergonomics, comfort, and adjustability and ultimately Mark makes a decision on which one he'll be using next season. I’ve never really liked hunting with a vest, usually I just go for a light shell hunting jacket. Less bulky/awkward and has plenty of pockets for my calls, shells, and flashlight.

I have a vest from Cabela's with poles so I can lean back. Sometimes you need to sit in some high grass or in the palmetos. Can't always find a tree. Also if you are sitting for a while you undo your vest and just lean back and sit there. Like to keep slate calls in a covered pocket. (wet) no good.

I agree with your buddy, the Nomad MG is the OG of turkey vests. It’s has just enough pockets and the thermacell holster is very convenient. I tried the Knight Hale RNG 300 and was highly disappointed with the pocket layout/design. I like to carry a decent amount of gear into the turkey woods.

I’ve had the RNG 200 loaded up and I’ve been running around the woods scouting with it and I love it. Yea the MG is awesome but for me I really want something lightweight cause I sweat so damn easily. The KnH is perfect for me.

Great content. When does the video for the bear bow winner come out so i know what day to watch because im not always on youtube. Just wanted to know so i could if i win it would be the best thing ever ive wanted to start hunting bout 4 years ago bit dont have the money to buy a gun so this would really help. Plus if i do win imma start posting hunting vids with the bow

Alps Ourdoorz Grand Slam is the best for Florida. You can lean back without a tree cause it’s got em legs.

RNG 200 as in 200 long straps. I like those vests until the stitching starts failing. Past 2 I’ve had were in need of a sewing needle after 1 season.

Mine has been holding up Thus far but it’s about to get out through the ringer. I do love how comfortable it is. As hot as it is in Florida, it’s important to me that it’s as light as it is. Thanks for watching! -Mark

Nobody wants that thing. Trust me. It’s a lot. But if u really want it I believe primos makes one that’s really similar. It’s the something something signature series.

@@SwampNStomp In the early version the pot call pockets were shallow and wouldn't handle larger calls. I lost a call one morning and it took me half the day to find it. After that I went with the MG and now I just lose strikers. No vest is perfect.

Thanks for the review. Sadly, turkey vests really suck for the modern turkey hunter. So it's a matter of conceding for the least shitty vest. I gave up on vests altogether for the time being, and I feel better off for it.

I disagree, I think they are a wonderful thing but the design has got to be right. And everyone has different needs. I started without a vest, and when I switch to a vest I felt like I had been shown the light! -Mark

@Swamp N Stomp according to wild backpacker "Heavy objects should in fact NOT be at the bottom of the backpack. For the most comfort and stability, put the weight at the top, preferably between the shoulder blades and as close as possible to your back so the backpack doesn't cause extra strain in pulling away from you."

@@christopherwalsh7700 well that person is not a physicist. It’s simple physics and geometry really. But since I can’t draw. Try it out. Get a backpack and hang a 10lb weight from the carrying handle at the top of the bag see how it feels, then put the item in the bottom of the bag and see how it feels. The bottom of the. Ah presses against your lower back while the top pulls on your shoulders. To reduce strain on your shoulders you put weigh in the bottom so most of the weight is sitting on your back. Try it…

@Swamp N Stomp watch any KZfaq video about any Appalachian trail through hikers and their backpack load outs. I'm not saying your wrong but I'll take the word of people that hike thousands of miles with backpacks on.

@@christopherwalsh7700 the weight should be into the lumbar area as much as possible. That is why backpackers and meat haulers use a belt. Your shoulders are the last place you want bulk of the weight. High up is fine for a short light commute or something, it will get tired quick in a long hike.
