Today, I review my next run commute backpack, the Osprey Daylite Plus. This is a 20L hiking backpack but I wanted to see if I could use this for running. My previous run commute backpack was the Nike Course 15L, and after a year of abuse, it was starting to show some wear and develop some holes in the side mesh pocket and in a corner where the laptop sits. I probably could have made it through another year, but as I was also considering getting a larger pack, this one from Osprey fit the bill nicely.
Comfort is good. Weight is pretty good (although heavier than what I'm used to). There's a lot of extra straps dangling all over the place, but it's relatively manageable. Overall, I'm quite happy.

Hey dude, I recently subscribed, thanks for the interesting videos. I used to live in Chicago (now Germany) I also am a regular guy that runs and have been thinking about run commuting also. What exactly do you pack in the backpack? Do you keep clothing at work? What about food, do you pack a little food also or do you eat out from the office? I’m an engineer/ R&D guy so I like to plan everything out before executing the plan. Thanks for any info you can provide
@kofuzi
@kofuzi 5 жыл бұрын
Here's a video I made last year. It's pretty similar now. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/op5yjatlksXWln0.html I leave work clothes at the office (I bring a bunch on a non run commute day and slowly squirrel the dirty clothes home one run commute day at a time). The office has lots of snacks and we're also downtown, so plenty of places to eat. And I only run commute one-way. I don't want to have to worry about showering or being sweaty or having to deal with sweaty clothes all day

Nice review, may I ask how you carry drinking water with you when you run with this backpack? Did you try out a water bladder in the end?
@kofuzi
@kofuzi 5 жыл бұрын
I don't carry water with this pack. I usually use it for run commuting. I think my longest run commute was about 12.5, but there's usually water fountains that are operational when I running home and taking a roundabout route that long

The + is the better of the two. I really wanted to *love* the Daylight (non +), but the grab handle was super poorly designed. If you didn't have a good amount of weight in it to pull it down, it would constantly rub on the back of your neck. Really poorly thought out from a company that usually nails it. I ended up landing on the REI Flash 18, and it was perfect for my needs. The Flash 22 is a solid Daylight + contender, but weaker if you're carrying a laptop, etc. I wish more brands did this small backpack thing. I use the hell out of my Flash 18 but would love other options. And of course, thank you for the shoutout and donation! :) I'll be sure to pay it forward.

Been a few years. Have you checked out the Osprey Talon? The hip straps would likely militate the side-to-side wobble you had an issue with. Also, it has a tab to hold your helmet, addressing exactly what you’re looking for on the bike/run divide.

There's definitely a need for more backpack videos on KZfaq. I'll have to check out Salomon. It's a brand that I've kind of written off in my mind as a trail and ski company (in other words, things I don't do). But I'm finding that they have some good stuff that I can use and actually isn't always super expensive

i try to keep the laptop at the office (i have a laptop at home) and i try to keep a pair of dress shoes there as well. usually, it's the clothes i wore that day, a changing pad/diapers/wipes, epi pens, camera (i use the same camera for videos at work and videos at home), glasses case, and my winter jacket. this video is from last year, but i think it's still pretty similar kzfaq.info/get/bejne/op5yjatlksXWln0.html
