I've been playing thoroughbreds for 50+ years in the US. I saw a horse win by 50 lengths in a garbage 2 mile race at the truly garbage Mountaineer Park. I've NEVER seen anything approaching this in a Grade 1 race on the turf. Pride of Jenni's race is certainly one for the ages!! However, my favorite race is still the 1976 Jockey Gold Cup. Forego (137 lbs including 30 lbs of lead) beat Honest Pleasure (118 lbs - 2nd in 1976 Kentucky Derby and 1976 Travers winner) on the wire.

When the second one misjudges the pace and holds up due to the illusion of long distance with the front runner and the third and the of rest of them just follows the second horse something tactically would happen. This phenomenon usually happens in a early slow pace in middle distance race. Remember how Serpentine won the Derby and recently this year Dubai Sheema classic. The concept is more or less same.

@Carrots44 Take it easy bro, that's racing. This is just an amplified version of the Derby won by Serpentine as the jockeys were really sleepy. Stewards won't challenge how proactive the jockeys would be put in a position in the early stage but only the final. That's the loopholes of modern racing, especially in big turf races. Even worse, there are lots of slowly run sprint turf races on a speed bias track elsewhere like in HK so I am much appreciated the courage of racing fans putting wagers there.

@@Carrots44I don't blame Craig Williams for what he did. He tried to ride Mr Brightside close to the same horse 2 weeks ago in the Australian Cup but got burnt off the track. Even Declan Bates was so surprised that she took off so quickly and the horse outsmarted her own jockey too. Pride Of Jenni's improvement within the space of 12 months was simply unbelievable with all her 3 G1 wins + All Star Mile win came this season. @@elgransenor1472 Mr Brightside definitely couldn't beat her regardless of how he was ridden. He is suspect @2000m and he already got burnt by Pride Of Jenni in the Australian Cup 2 weeks before that when ridden close to her. He clearly isn't good enough. Perhaps some of the other jockeys should have made more effort in chasing her. But given how the race unfolded I don't think any horse will beat her no matter how they were ridden. They'll be knackered by the time they reach her at the home straight if they challenge her in the run. Yeah she ran 2.02 but she slowed down in the straight. She is in the best form of her life right now and she is much tougher to beat these days.

For all of you who commented on beaten jockeys, I don't blame Craig Williams for his ride on Mr Brightside. He tried to ride Mr Brightside to take it up to the same horse 2 weeks ago in the Australian Cup but got burnt by her. Because no other jockeys took it up to Pride Of Jenni yesterday, they allowed her to do as she likes. But either way she was still too good on the day. She is by far the most improved horse in Australia in the space of 12 months. As for Mr Brightside, I don't think he is good enough and I don't think he ran out a strong 2000m. Maybe say 1800m is as far as he goes.

@@elgransenor1472 In the Australian Cup she was within herself when she led in that race. It was her first try @2000m. But in QE Stakes, Declan Bates lost control of her and she took off to lead by that huge 40L during the run. That's why the margin blew out to that far. Even if Craig Williams tried to get closer to her say 10-12L during the run, the horse still wouldn't win. Not only that, Mr Brightside might even struggle to beat a runner home. He is suspect @2000m and I think a mile to maybe 1800m is as far as he goes.

The bottom line is that Via Sistina was not good enough to make her own luck to be in the finish. All these whining sore losers who are blaming the pack need to understand by their own omission( blaming the pack) Pride of Jenni was the best and fairest horse and a deserving winner on the day, it's probably why Timeform rated her a 129...It would have taken a horse like Winx (in the modern era) to make a move early enough to run her down.

If you replace the words Via Sistina with James McDonald your comment would make more sense. Via Sistina wasn’t offered the option of moving up earlier. The jockey decides when to make a move not the horse. Nobody knows if McDonald had moved into 2nd at the 1300 what would have happened Maybe Via Sistina was good enough, she wasn’t given the chance so we’ll never know. The horse didn’t decide Oh heck, I’m not good enough to move up and chase this leader did she? Perhaps we’ll find out in your Spring? Maybe they’ll both go for the Doomben Cup?

@@BalmainBucko Dude, you really need to take the chip off your shoulder and relax a bit. Be a bit less uptight I said Mr Brightside because he was leading the pack behind her, that’s the only reason I said Mr Brightside. But yes, all the other 8 jockeys are just as much to blame, any of them could have made sure the leader didn’t get so far ahead. I read in one article that Via Sistina was around 40 lengths behind the leader at the 700m point of the race. The pack could have been 15 lengths closer at the 700 without running themselves into the ground. Waller and McDonald both know their horse just wasn’t given the chance It’s really simple tactics. You don’t try and run with her and sit on her outside or a length or two behind, you let her go. But you don’t let her get 40 lengths in front of you, you let her get 12-15 lengths in front of you and then you run her down late. If you do that and she holds on and beats you then fair play, she’s the better horse. But sitting 40 lengths behind is just gifting her the win.

@@BalmainBucko One of my Aussie mates just sent me this. Some renowned Australian ratings analyst says the chasing pack could have been 14 lengths closer in the run "and not have been unduly taxing their horses". The pack ran the first 1400m of the race slower than an average 2000m benchmark handicap at Randwick

@@elgransenor1472 We have to look towards Timeform and respect the rating they gave her..If you compare the times in the Ranvet vrs QE on same ground.. they ran through the first 1400..7 seconds quicker in the QE.
