No glitz. No glamor. No big, over the top visuals or overdone "look at me!" performances. Just a well-done piece of music put forth by two artists trying to get their thoughts across. And look at the responses coming from thinking people. Who says real hip hop---hell, real _music_ ----is dead? Thanks for the simple, lyrical brilliance RTJ. You fellows aren't running the jewels; you're delivering them for all of us to see. Kudos.

***** Indeed, my boy, indeed. Thing is, I find smaller scale guys like this are doing more for mainstream music, while creative minds like EPICLloyd and Nice Peter --- the masterminds behind Epic Rap Battles of History, or ERB---- are crafting more complex lyrical creations than what we get from 94% of most rappers today. Are you familar with them?
@therealkindle5365
@therealkindle5365 8 жыл бұрын
Shenruss I have heard of them yes, but the problem I have is that I prefer rappers who come at rap from a "sad" angle rather than "anger" or just plain fame seeking, ya know? I know this doesn't make sense & that it's MY own fault, but I like to hear struggles, emotional admissions, verisimilitude & intractable hardships rather than showmanship, gameface, rage & capitulation of the beats for the sake of the ego. RTJ have this uncanny balance which reminds me of older rap I missed due to my age. Feel free to recommend any other artists (not just rap) that has a tragic story to tell or a heterogeneous sad/ethereal sound. Sorry once again for being a dick fam.

I'm 5 years too late but this may be the best song I've ever heard. It speaks deeply to the alienation to all of society. How many songs begging for justice. How many peaceful protests. How many speeches, reforms, foundations, court cases and memorials in the past 50 years after Jim Crow laws ended in 1964. @MrLostform

this isnt rebel music, this is the situation music, this dude is stopped and questioned and found to have a dime bag, cuff him and pull guns and start yelling at his family, and somebody in his family is shot for crying out while watching his mom be roughed up, then the man is put in jail. The white guy is going about his day, hears the commotion in his city 2 blocks away, wonders what happened, goes home watches the news, sees the tragedy and gets sad, but his day starts early so off to sleep, the city wakes up in protest, the cops are called in suppressive showing of force, but people are still out here and pissed off. And everyone just wonders why does it have to be this way, we can have respect for each other, not just one way.
@cctomcat321

@@MrLostform I suggest you listen to El-Ps verse again... You're kinda right... But not really. The OP is right, this is music of the rebellion. We have a proto-fascist in office and more tension between the people than ever. The rich are getting richer while we are starving and dying. Not to mention these guys work in direct with dude from RATM. I probably would've chosen a better word than, "rebel", though. Kinda invokes images of pasty dudes driving trucks with a confederate flag duct taped in the window.

The first verse may be the best and certainly the most affecting I've ever heard. The production, the concept, the delivery, and the emotion. Amazing

I'm incredibly impressed that a song so socially charged has so little swearing, especially compared to their other songs. I think it really shows how serious they were when they recorded this. It's like every word matters. Very powerful.

Early and Reagan are prolly the best music videos by RTJ. They are so graphic and illustrate the lyrics so damn well. Make anyone woke

Nigel Cooper I agree although Reagan is technically on R.A.P. Killer mike solo album. El-P does all the beats still though, one of my favorite albums of the last 10 years.
