Majority of estate pubs gone, Southgate flattened. Castlefields partially. Shopping City/Halton Lea is an eyesore & scally hang out. Needs to be flattened also.

Such haters on here we moved here to Runcorn twenty years ago and it’s lovely, like every we’re there we’re or are bad bits but compared to liverpool it’s heaven,I was brought up in liverpool L8/L19 and L24 and the big differences are kids play out here, football on the parks and loads of family’s walk the canals, it did get a bad time in the eighties and nineties due to unemployment and drugs but it has and is such a better place to live ,especialy as the shit bits have been demolished and replaced with modern housing part owned

When the words Master Plan are included in your title you've already failed. It has. It did. Runcorn needs a better vision.

Love how clean Runcorn looks in this compared to now! Especially considering a lot of Britain was filthy during the 70s. Grime ridden streets filled with a smoggy stint waving livelessly through the air!

Holy shit Runcorn used to be so beautiful it had fields and it looked so neat and tidy, Runcorn now is so ugly it's outdated cramped and in all honesty it's just a pretty ugly city and the buildings that are filled with asbestos are still chilling just looking ugly, seeing this just makes me sad honestly

I remember travelling by bus through shopping city in the mid-90s. Very dilapidated. Like a 1970s dystopian scifi film.

This architecture clearly looked lovely when it was first built. But it now looks badly dated and has not been well maintained. Governments do not invest in their people like they did in the '70s and everyone is worse off because of it. I grew up in Runcorn in the '90s and had happy memories but some estates were considered no-go areas even then. I haven't been back for a while, but I see the Shopping City has changed (for the better) but apparently many of the estates have badly declined. I wish governments would continue to do what they for their people as they did then. People slag the 70s off, but they did not have food banks and homelessness like we do today.

Like all new towns....All went wrong because town planners thought they new best what people want! Councils remain as useless and pie in the sky today, sadly!

Southgate scared me in the 80s, dystopian Come to daddy nightmare, if Southgate was still around it would make a perfect place to film another Aphex twin video. In the 70s even though it was ugly it looked much safer.

Not all of us are the same, racism is still an issue but people like you aren't helping, you can't just go around calling people racist for absolutely no reason, we aren't all racist and saying that we are off racist in itself, you need to go away and think about how you're going about this, I disagree with all racism, white on black or vice versa. It's disgusting either way. I'm a 17 year old kid and for no reason you're calling me racist just because of where I'm from, you're saying that in itself is not racist? Come on mate, get a life.

Again stop thinking that the normal 99% of non-racists are just like 1% of idiots that discriminate, you need to actually go to Liverpool and see that almost no-one discriminates against anyone else, the majority of people hate racists.

I think it's sad to see such a good place to make a lovely town was wasted however most new town style towns example , skelmersdale a boring repeating soulless town and it's just depressing I personally live in a rough area but still they can't be saying it will make liverpool better plus I know what it's like and it's not nice so it's just soulless but atheist there is things too do unlike runcorn and skelmersdale

Runcorn at the time wasn’t what it is today, it was a Cheshire town surrounded by farmland. The reason it’s in the sorry state it is now is largely because of people moving in from “the best city in Britain”. So the decline of the town can be largely ascribed to that huge ingress of people who formerly lived in slums, who then turned the new town Runcorn estates into the very same slums that they’d been moved out of. No offence intended here I love Liverpool and as it stands today it’s a much more appealing prospect for a place to live, but your logic doesn’t work

Sorry but Runcorn makes you depressed there is a minority of hard working decent people and a majority of lazy fuckers who think it is there God given right for the taxpayer to pay there way. (some my family) So glad my parents got me out of there when I was a kid.
