This is part of a series of 4 brief videos to help newcomers to runes memorize their meanings. This video series should help you get on your feet so you can start reading the runes after watching this series, with no book in hand. Future videos will include some reading methods, once you have the meanings down.
The blog including the link to all 4 videos is located at: www.donnaleigh.com/apps/blog/show/40667462
These meanings are not complete, and I do not include the rich history that comes with runes. The viewer is encouraged to continue their studies on the runes to continue to learn more. This series is intended to inspire so you feel capable of giving them a go.

For anyone looking to learn more, these are called Futhark Runes. The Runes in the video were used in Scandinavia. I can't tell if they are Elder Futhark or Younger Futhark though, because i only read Anglo-saxon Futhorc (English runes). Runes are really interesting and i definitely recommend learning more about them from a historical perspective.

I found your video series so much more helpful than just trying to use a book alone. I have Ralph Blum's book and while it gave me an introduction, I must say it leaves a lot to be desired both on history and practical memorization, shorthand, etc. I still use other books, but these videos really helped me tie it all together in a way I can continue to practice. True story, just happened to me and I am literally here for it. I went through the most traumatic thing I could go through at age 15 and 16. I almost died and the cute thing is that at the time I was reading a story and the villians were exactly like the people I thought were so nice and amazing in real life. Everything was exactly the same, the place, the characters, their looks, with just a few differences and it was just... wow. I had a bad feeling before but now I wanted to get the hell out of there. I left them and it has been a year but sometimes I wonder; what would have happened if I didn't read that story?

How to you feel about Edred Thorsson's interpretations? And have you worked with Leon D. Wild's 'Runes Workbook?'
@DivineWhispers
@DivineWhispers 10 жыл бұрын
Edred is very scholarly and traditional...much more educated on runes than I will be in this lifetime. Yet some readers (particularly beginners) report they find the writing dry and scholarly, a bit dense. The writings are good for those who are seriously into runes and rune history. I do have the Runes Workbook...I like it but don't use it a lot. I like the visuals and how they serve as memory triggers. A couple of the meanings are different than the ones I learned to use, but overall the meanings match pretty well.

@donnaleighdelarose5899
@donnaleighdelarose5899 9 жыл бұрын
Hi Angela, there's nothing like making your own tools. I hope you can give it a try. You can use any wood from your local woods, cut medium sized branches into evenly - sized slices. If you use softer woods you'll be able to burn the rune symbols into them deeper and thicker. An optional clear matte shellac on the top will seal the wood. You can also use smooth pond stones instead of wood and draw or paint on the symbols. Try to get all similar sized and shaped stones if you do that. Good luck with your project!

It's considered a more modern-day rune that was added later. Some say it is the "unknown" or "can't be foreseen." Others say it is the "fate" or "destiny" marker. I tend not to use it unless it falls in my readings by mistake. I usually remove it.

What is the effect of Fehu
@hoppy375
@hoppy375 7 ай бұрын
Thought Fehu was representative of wheat and harvest. Uruz represents cow, or aurochs
@DivineWhispers
@DivineWhispers 7 ай бұрын
Great topic. Fehu is worth, value or money. Think of how the number of cattle a family owned indicated a family's wealth or value. For a dowry, cattle would be presented like money. For Uruz, that represents the yoke around the auroch/ox or the horns of the bull used for fighting...so it represents the harnessed strength of the animal. Both have cow/bull- like representation. Great topic for discussion!

@joesibley03
@joesibley03 7 жыл бұрын
I felt the same way about tarot when I first started! Runes(in my opinion) are much easier to read because you don't have to learn astrology, numerology, Kabbalah and all the other systems associated with the tarot. Runes are very intuitive so you really have to start working with them and you'll slowly start learning the language. It takes time and patience but its worth it! But like any system of divination, you can make it as complicated or as simple as you want it to be! There is no right or wrong way...Just have fun!
