@@Jake-lz1rn It makes gambling addicts and whales spend their savings. Also the older holiday items have value for people who actually got those back in the day. This alienates older veteran players from newer ones and discourages them for playing the game. Whilst this makes them money on the short term i believe the damage on the long term will be greater as you see with many mobile games dying after milking out their players with mtx manipulation.

"they need mtx to survive" if that's true something is fundamentally wrong with their game isn't it? There are games that survive from either sub based model or from f2p model with mtx. Runescape 3 does both to survive which doesn't paint a pretty picture about how well is game doing. Also considering they have record earning every year for last few years i would say they don't need mtx to survive they push them because it makes money which by itself isn't funtamentally bad from a business standpoint but it will be criticized by a public if it is openly harmful towards the general player base.

For this game to continue to exist in the world of gaming by being one of the biggest cheapest subscription based game, have countless and constant free updates with no buying " expansions " and to have essentialy a endless free game yeah I don't blame them for throwing in some mtx. I can't think of one game that does what runescape does for its price that near as fun as it is. And btw very typical response.

@@simplylethul well a) it can't go anywhere because game would die in few months without bonds existing and b) I am not saying mtx is fundamentally bad but jagex literally increased amount of them by like 300% in last 4 years.

@@buddah3414 it's neither biggest, cheapest or free. If the entire rs3 was free and they did mtx how they do them now it would not be an issue. But rs3 isn't free most of the current playerbase are members. And that playerbase is dwindling every normal year (not covid years those made every mmo rise in player count) for last 10 years since eoc and squeel of fortune came out. So yes my answer was typical because it is the same fucking issue for last 10 years except last 2 years jagex made more money than ever.

Im fine with the rarity of them its just that Jagex keeps pushing loot box gambling on players and its annoying. how awesome would it be if there was a limited time halloween boss event where this was a mega rare drop and everyone grinded it out for the slim chance of the drop. Its never a good thing for a game when the only way to obtain the best stuff is through real money. even if you just buy it on the GE you're supporting JAgexs loot box system bc you're buying it from someone who pumped a ton of money into the game most likely. if you haven't played in 3 years its fair to say you really don't know what you're talking about, seeing how every holiday event for the last year has been some form of pay to win gambling on new rares.

I’ve only commented negatively about him saying the item is FOMO and tradable not the means of obtaining it. In fact I agree that locking an item behind a paywall is bad and you’d know that if you actually had the capacity to read a comment in its entirety. I’m just pointing out it’s bad to throw out some words to get people to agree with you. This is literally not FOMO. It’s tradable, even if you don’t partake in this event, you will be able to obtain it through in-game currency later on. Hell, you can even get it a decade later if the game still exists then.

Bonds are literally just proxy to buy members with real cash, they are still making money from that and yes game should be able to survive of subs only if it is a sub based game. If it doesn't something is wrong with the game to begin with.

You paying a sub for fsw is still supporting these money grabs either way.

@@XAn0nymousX0 They aren't working for free. FSW is like an alt that you would normally pay for. But you're right they shouldn't try new stuff and only survive on memberships from IRL money. Bonds was made to slow the gold farmers back in the day.
