@@archiejames4739sure he will be eyeing the Olympics but he could do the euros .. and he certainly dodged Jakob at the end of last season in diamond league races. @@kd-wk8nd Jakob is definitely the more ‘complete’ athlete, but not the most complete 1500 runner and that’s shown and I think will continue to purely from the type of training he does. In terms of dodging, ye Kerr didn’t race him but (all respect to Jakob for being able to do this) winning the worlds and then continuing to be in top race form after mentally must be incredibly difficult and in my opinion pointless. And the euros again is a rlly weird one, had 16,000 viewers on the bbc tonight, stadium looked well over half empty, sponsors who are sustaining this sport rlly wouldn’t want an athlete to travel from west America to Europe 2 months out from the most important event in 4 (3 cause of covid) years. Peaking is a hard thing to get right and adding travel plus the risk of illness seems silly

He has lost almost every race against Jakob, and while he did win the last two, which is commendable, it just feels as if it’s way to early to say that this is a proper rivalry. Obviously Josh has a couple of very nice races in recent history I still believe Jakob is better and he also wasn’t in peak form last race. You could argue the last two races because he said that he had a sore throat. That’s up to anyone whether they believe that or not. But I think pretty much anyone should believe that he probably should not have been peak shape for this last race after being injured for eight months. So I would say it’s pretty incredible that he still wasn’t very far off.

Because he's on a different cycle to Jakob. Kerr has done plenty of high profile races. Since winning at Budapest, Josh has ran in the 5th Avenue Mile, did a half-marathon in San Diego, did the 2 mile at Millrose, did the 3000m at World Indoors, and the Mile at the Pre Classic. Ducking PEDs my ass. He'll be at British trials in the 800m and probably do a 1500m/mile before the olympics. Honestly this is just bizarre hatred and shows your lack of knowledge. Jakob has went for obscurer rarely ran records too. He literally went out to set the 2-mile outdoor/outright world record at a Diamond League meet last year! Jakob is the one that's ducked meets according to your logic - he didn't go world indoors! There's a 1500m at Monaco and a week later there's a mile at London. I bet both duck each other. Josh could go for his home crowd in London and I bet Jakob goes to Monaco.

The rivalry makes perfect sense, because Kerr took the 1500m world championship title from Ingebrigtson and then beat him in their next race wearing that crown. What doesn't make sense is your treating these two races the same as any other races.
@bituminouscole

It always feels worth mentioning to me, that it many of these races, Jakob is in fact the pacemaker. At 2023 worlds he lead most of the race, he is certainly doing the brunt of the work, and still performing very well, and Kerr is completely ignoring that in all of his comments. Josh Kerr lets everybody else do all the work and then kicks the last 200, which while a successful race style, is arguably not as difficult as what Jakob likes to do, which is race out front. Granted at the Bowerman Mile, Kerr did take it with 600 to go, which was an excellent move.
@katy3901

I mean, if they're there to race then the better runner is the one with the better strategy, not the one who paces the most. Jakob knows he's fast when the pace is more consistent, but he's not the best finisher. He needs to put more light between himself and the rest of the field in the first half if he wants to get close in Paris.
@katy3901

Your comment is interesting, though, because Jakob seems to struggle much more in the races without other pacers.
@bituminouscole
@bituminouscole 23 күн бұрын
@@katy3901 Certainly, he does incredibly well when someone else or himself in some cases takes it out very fast, but you are right in your previous comment, if the pace is inconsistent he struggles a lot more. Unfortunately for him most of his competition, Kerr, Wightman, Hocker, Neguse, and others all do better in a more tactical scenario and have a better kick than Jakob. Jakob is certainly a better 5k runner than those men, but they are all true 1500m specialists whereas Jakob probably isn't, he is just so aerobically strong that he does well anyway

Look how athletes all over different sports train now, vs 50years ago- they use science and the rules to their best advantage- as they should. These athletes know exactly what got them to this times. Its the shoe, nutrition, double treshold days, strenght training, mental training and much more that we woulld not even think about. Are records in the marathon not valid because they used better electrolytes and better carb gels than they did 50 years ago? Because that is kind of the "valid argument" of yours.

Jacob has no language barrier. His English is rock solid. The two definitely don't like each other. Basically none of the other runners like Jacob due to his blatant arrogance. This video did not include Jacob at his worst. Kerr's attitude towards Jacob is rooted in true dislike, dislike shared by virtually all the other pros. Kerr needs to behave professionally, as does Jacob, so they don't go at it as professional wrestlers would, but one can read between the lines. It's clear. There is no faking anything.

Well said, and by far the most accurate analysis here. The recency bias is strong - how easily people have forgotten the several years of Jacob arrogance in before/after race interviews where he simply dismissed the rest of field out of hand with commentaries like "I came here to run my race and hit my goals and wasn't worried about anyone else since nobody else is on my level" etc, etc, etc. Well several years of digs like that plant the seeds of disgust in your rivals, eventually resulting in one of those "nobody's" rising up and beating you down. In this case Wrightman, then Kerr, successively. You reap the seeds you sow - that Jacob or anyone is surprised by this is hilarious. You go Kerr - I'm here for it!

The premise of this video makes no sense. This rivalry is 100% legit and real. What's the logic? Kerr needs to beat Jacob 8 times in a row before it can be a rivalry? But if he does that it won't be a rivalry. Jacob was a pro while Kerr was in school. Kerr took a little longer to get his form. Is this not allowed? I appreciate the middle distance coverage, but I am confused by the logic behind this video.
