I looked at my wife : “WHAT IS A WINTER SNAKE?” 😂 on a serious note you’ve helped my running so much. So glad I’m not spending my time leaning forward and pulling with my hamstrings any more! Unfortunately if I see 10 runners out on any given day there’s good odds all 10 will be doing some version of this leaning with a heel strike

This makes a lot more sense why you object to leaning forward, it's not just about keeping in control. It still feels nice to bow the chest while keeping the head straight for extra speed. I feel like my legs are getting stronger but being tall their is only so much leg extension I can do while staying above 13 min mile for Gear 1.

So true, too many "running guru's" out there trying to make a buck convincing people into running form or methods that cause more damage than any form of help. Great video mate, simple and efficient, that's how it should to be. Keep up the good work mate 👌🏼👏🏼.. Blessings 🙌🏼 🙏🏼

It's been a while since I've watched your videos; so glad to be watching again! This is a good one - as an older runner (baby boomer) I've struggled with everything you mentioned in this video. Thrilled to finally have my digital copy of Born to Run2 from my library (no budget for book buying, unfortunately). I dove right into it yesterday and I'm looking forward to incorporating everything in there into my training. I also love to see footage of the trails in the Jackson Hole area... been there a number of times (I live in Colo); last time I was there was to play in a woman's hockey tournament - was that ever fun! Haha - the winter snake; I fell for it but also wondered for a few seconds..."hm, have I heard of a winter snake all the years I've been hiking and running in the Rocky Mtn west?" LOL

Thank you for your great videos, I appreciate the running mentality you demonstrate and teach. In my opinion, "leaning forward" advices have in the end the same or similar running form in mind - placing footstrike under the center of mass, increasing cadence, reducing ground time, improve running efficiency - but maybe demonstrating it in the wrong way - of course you are not to fall on your leg and brake - the key is to find the sweet spot where gravity can help you move forward, yet not having to fight against it. You approach it from other direction, concentrating on cadence, proper foot strike, leg extension, etc. It explains that the running gait is more complex and that just leaning passively forward will not work on itself.

This was so helpful! I'm getting back into running and your videos are removing my fear (I used to run 15+ years ago but was getting hurt, so I stopped).

Thank you. I have been dealing with tight legs and painful runs. My stride is short and it feels stuck that way. I’ve gotten slower and slower over the past two years, despite strength training and speed workouts. I’m going to try what you recommended.

I'd love to see a winter snake in snow, just last night I saw a large Copper Head crossing the trail I was running about 20 meters ahead of me. This is the best case scenario because you can see them, they can be very dangerous when they are in any sort of grass or basking in the sun as you can accidentally step on them and they will strike at you. When your walking dogs you have to also be vigilant as dogs are so curious.

It has helped me be more balanced if I assess what my hips are doing. Do I feel like my hips have a tilt backwards? I confirm where my shoulders are in relation to my hips...if they're forward of my hips, then I'm definitely leaning in too much, and I can straighten up and push my hips forward a bit.

Thanks for the tip. I have been running slower and having some knee trouble as you said I am keeping my knees too bent. I did a 4.5 mile run yesterday trying to focus on leg extension and I can feel different muscles working .like the gluts and especially the calf muscle. Should this be so? My calf are sore this morning.

I call those “snakes” that you see on the trail “maderas” (spanish for wooden) as it sounds even scarier! Gets en every time. 😂
