A Mile an Hour: A different kind of marathon; running one lap an hour, for 24hrs, around my perfectly mile long block. The rest of the time I do as much as possible; making things, odd jobs, fixing stuff. It's about running, doing, and thinking.

I tried the half version of this. The block around my house is also 1 mile. Yesterday I got up at 7am and did two laps(2 miles). Then at the top of each hour, I did a loop. In between loops, same as your example, I completed as many projects on my to do list as I could. The plan was to see how many things I could accomplish while covering the distance of a half marathon. 13.1 miles. It took me 11 hours with 2 laps on the front and back end. By the end of the day, I took care of yard work, cleaned the garage, vacuumed, swept, and mopped the floors, cleaned the bathrooms, finished all the laundry, etc. I even prepped dinner so it would be ready in time. The last few miles was a bit of a grind. It was 102 degrees outside (July in Texas) so the heat made it interesting. Beau, I like your style. Thank you for the inspiration.

lol I'm the opposite. I completed 2 of my first year uni courses in 2 weeks. I kinda thought there'd be more too them, so wanted to get in early in case. Turns out, nope, that was it. course complete. If it's something i'm interested in, i'll get stuck in and do it the second i'm aware of it, then move onto the next thing. The downside is, unless i'm working with someone equally driven/focused, I usually piss coworkers off. As I don't stop until it's complete. So it comes with pros and cons... IMHO, this personality type (of 100% focus 100% of the time) usually ends up being solo work, there's just no room for other people.

Beau! I saw this video seven or eight months ago shortly after reading a Malcom Gladwell book that discussed the idea of marginal difference/accomplishing goals in increments. I decided that I would try your 'marathon' the following weekend since I had let a lot of little projects build up (and naturally put them off far too long). Since then, I've run one of your 'marathons' (or sometimes just a half marathon during the daylight) at least once a month! It's always the most productive time of my life. Thanks for the idea! I also saw your video on a junk paddle and decided to try that too--it only needs one more coat of polyurethane and it'll be done! You're an inspiration to many!

As for the jobs; I also stained my fence with old sump oil, cut my hair, caulked and painted my kitchen island, oiled my cutting board, mowed the grass, got a motorcycle registered, welded up a metal rack, vacuumed the house, and setup the patio furniture. I had more on my list, but I'm pretty happy with that. Thanks for the inspiration

When you fixed and hung that picture and said, “I’ve been meaning to do that for a year; and it was a 10 minute job” (or something to that effect) that really struck a chord with me. I’ve been depressed and anxiety riddled since my husband and several pets died these past two years. I use to love to do crafts and make a variety of different wood projects; but strayed away from them since my depression took hold. This past week I’ve done several small projects (looking for ideas on KZfaq) and it’s probably the reason this was in my recommended feed. Getting done even a small project has already helped my depression. I have a lot of physical medical problems, so I can’t run as far as you did; however, you’ve inspired me to do my own version of this. *THANK YOU* for inspiring me and *congrats* on everything you accomplished!!
