Join me, PKS Runs, on an incredible journey as I take on the Manchester Marathon 2023, chasing the elusive sub-3-hour dream! In this video, I document my entire experience, from the pre-race nerves to the finish, and everything in between.
Follow along as I drive up to Manchester with my support team, including my family and friend Bun, who will be handing me drinks and cheering me on throughout the race. I'll be sharing my thoughts, feelings, and strategies as I prepare for the big day, including my plan to follow the 3-hour pacer and my hopes for achieving a sub-3:15 or even sub-3-hour finish time.
Experience the excitement and camaraderie of race day as I meet fellow runners like Calvern from South Africa, who is also aiming for a sub-3-hour finish, and Gav, who is running his second marathon of the year and raising money for an important cause. I'll be sharing the highs and lows of the race, including my struggles with cramping and the incredible support from the crowds lining the streets of Manchester.
In this video, I also discuss my journey of personal growth and overcoming anxiety, pushing myself out of my comfort zone and embracing the marathon experience. From interacting with the crowds to perfecting my water station technique, I'll share how I conquered my fears and found joy in the moment.
As I cross the finish line, I reflect on my accomplishment and the future of my running journey. With a newfound sense of pride and determination, I consider the possibility of tackling more marathons and continuing to share my story with the world.
The Manchester Marathon is a popular long-distance running event held annually in Greater Manchester, England. It was previously known as the Greater Manchester Marathon until 2020. The most recent marathon was held on 16 April 2023, with the finish line located at the Old Trafford Cricket Ground.
With only 54 meters of elevation, it is claimed to be the flattest marathon course in the UK. However, past editions of the Manchester Marathon have been found to be too short, causing invalid times in 2013, 2014, and 2015. The marathon has a rich history, with the first marathon in the Manchester area held in 1908. The current course passes through several famous landmarks, including Old Trafford football ground, Chorlton, Hulme, Stretford, and Manchester City Centre.

Great video. Congrats on achieving sub 3. But even bigger congrats for overcoming your own fears and insecurities. With these big events, it's not just the running, as you said, everyone has a story and everyone has there own fears and doubts. The runners, the crowds, the experience make up something much bigger. You become a part of something very special. If you fancy embracing the journey, do london or raise money for charity, or both? Congrats again. Be proud of how far you've come

Thank you so much for the encouragement. I will definitely continue the journey and do another marathon to raise money for the Brain Tumour charity, which is a cause very close to my family. I definitely feel very supported, and lifted up through this whole experience which is why I decided to put myself out there. Are you training for anything?

@@pksruns thanks so much. I don’t actually know what my ‘thing’ is yet - speed / short distance / long distance / ultras. I have a feeling it MIGHT be ultras as the idea of a slower pace but for ages does appeal to me. Having said that, I recently got a 5k pb at a park run and loved that 😂
