Hey Jaabo I was watching a video the other day by a travel blogger who took the Orient Express from Paris to Istanbul. The actual train is stunning. A real time capsule from an opulent bygone era. The carriages ooze luxury. A basic ticket for the 120 hour journey, which includes a cabin with bunk beds, a wash basin and all meals, including beverages, costs $52,000, rising to $140,000 for a berth with a double bed, private shower and a lounge. Not included were luxury meal items! And, the most craziest thing. The train was completely full! The bloggers journey wasn’t without fault, including delays and an issue with the air conditioning in his room. For that, he was offered a full cash refund or, if he preferred, a 130% credit for a future trip.

I thought for sure it would fail with 4. I didn’t even use fresh batteries. They are the same batteries from my video I did with the Disney train - which was 4 years ago I just realized oh my - I need to try fresh batteries

Awesome! Good job Bricktsar! And to think Lego said it wouldn’t run. It certainly can. You might get better tractive effort by putting rubber bands on all four flanged drivers instead of just the two. Wow, four coaches, that’s heavy. Big question is now though, can she run 9V? Anyways, great job Bricktsar, and hope to see more from you in the future.

Thanks! The two wheels are the only ones connected to the motor. I don’t think the connecting rods do anything much for the other two wheels that touch the track. But it probably wouldn’t hurt to try

Lego claimed that the train was too heavy with two carriages and that they spent 3 months trying to motorize it without success. Thank you for showing the world that this is just a lie and a lame excuse not to include a motor, battery box and gears while asking $/€ 300 for the set ! Lego? 🤪🤮💩! With the Mould King set you get a much nicer locomotive and carriage with two motors, gears, a rechargeable battery box, a remote control, lights, a smoke generator, magnets, tracks and much better prints. All for less than $/€ 200: 👍👌👏!

That set looks stunning on your mantle. How does BMR get their steam trains to run so well? Do they use custom motors??? And are you going to get some larger radius track such as R104 or R120? Heck TrixBrix even make R184 now?!?!?! 😮

I don’t know about BMR stuff since I paid $800 5 years ago and never got my locomotive. Way past the time for credit card claim. I’ve lost confidence in them. Got email about 6 months ago and still nothing. I think they do use third party motors. I do have done larger radius tracks but could find the non 9v stuff for this test run.

I think loco should be upscaled. I mean proportion of Engine to Cars is strange. Its look like if in Polar Express will be Thomas the Engine. So loco should be in lenght same as car. Like in concept of Orient Train

This is more prototypical which is why they went with it. It’s not a big boy. Most passenger cars are longer than the locomotive. I don’t know why so many people think otherwise

Jaabo - I'm a novice at Lego trains. That's just regular Lego track right? With some curve pieces connected to curve pieces - so the curves aren't so sharp?

Yes - every track was official Lego track. And yes I put straights between curves to smooth them out a little

Did the silver pieces on the wheels jam up for you? Mine keep getting stuck but it runs fine with them off

No. We had no problem at all. You do need to make sure the connecting rods are offset by 1/4 turn like the instructions show

In real life the coaches are much longer than the locomotive

The locomotive is WAY too small in comparison, and proportions are horrendous even on its own. The pilot wheels are way too close together, driving wheels too far back, no firebox, cylinders and side rods WAY too high up, boiler is far too much taller than driving wheels, cab is extremely undersized. This thing is disgusting
