Historically,the iMac has never really been aimed at Pro users.There was only ever the one Pro model released in 2017 (which is featured in this video) and that was just a stop gap whilst they was developing the 2019 Mac Pro which replaced the trash can Mac Pro.The iMac is more of a family computer.It’s still a very good machine though and I have the M3 which is plenty powerful for my use.

You can still run the latest OS using legacy core software. I'm running the latest operating system, Sonoma, on my Mac Pro 2013, and I'm sure they're going to make it upgradeable to Sequoia once it releases. I had one of the older 5K iMacs, but I ended up breaking the screen because I was transporting it too much. I keep hearing Sequoia is still really buggy, so I'm going to wait until everything is all right with the OS before even putting it on any of my machines. I always wished I got the iMac Pro, though. I kind of had some buyer's remorse about not getting that instead of my 5K iMac. It was still an awesome computer, but it amazes me how Apple is dropping support for even the iMac Pro now. That's quite unfortunate.

I think Apple has finally made it to the point that they can be able to allow Apple technology to be repairable. But right now, they have to make 2 model iPhones, 2 model Macs, 2 model Macbooks, 1 model iMac and a M2 and M4 Vision Pro the solidified models for what is going to be the biggest push in software in a long time with more people willing to make their own models of technology while running on Apple Intelligence. But they have to push iPhone 16 and 16 SE and 17 and 17 SE, making iPhone 14 -14 Pro Max, 15 - Pro Max and 3rd Gen iPhone SE approximately 1, 1.5 and 2 to years old (3rd Gen SE released with iPhone 14 in 2022).

Too bad that doesn’t apply to 2017 non-pro iMacs - those of us who own and still use them were abandoned after Ventura, leaving us with awesome displays and outdated OSs 😢 If Tim Cook was truly interested in reducing e-waste, he’d (obviously, when I say “he,” I mean the people at Apple who design and write the macOS software) do something like bring back Target Display Mode and allow all those 5k displays to still be used with new Macs. We can’t even use AirPlay to Mac on anything older than a 2019 non-pro iMac (unless it is “updated” using Open Core Legacy Patcher.)

Sequoia isn't that much better than watchOS 11 in terms of supported devices. The 2019 MacBook Air isn't supported by Sequoia.
@ZaneMouakket8 күн бұрын
And people keep MacBooks longer than apple watches so Sequoia should support MacBooks much older than the ones that aren't supported by WatchOS 11.
@ghost-user5598 күн бұрын
Yeah but the 2019 doesn’t have the neural engines for ai. That started with M1. So this is a very rare example of actual hardware differences instead of just a forced obsolescence.

@@ghost-user559 But the 2017 iMac Pro doesn't have that either and still gets Sequoia, just without the apple intelligence features. This is how the 2019 MacBook Air should've been treated.
@ghost-user5598 күн бұрын
@@ZaneMouakket Yeah I do agree that it could run it, and anyone can with Open Core. But it wouldn’t have the processing capability to make it “snappy”. It’s got too much bloat to run smoothly without a dedicated Gpu. The IMac Pro is a beast, it has plenty of Ram and it has a gpu. The intel Airs have always been the weakest system in the entire lineup prior to the Apple Silicon Airs.
@ZaneMouakket8 күн бұрын
@@ghost-user559 I agree, but I think most people would prefer their computer still get updated and be a little less snappy, compared to their computer not getting updated anymore. It's much easier to reinstall Sonoma if Sequoia isn't snappy enough or not update to it in the first place if you think it won't be snappy enough compared to installing OCLP to upgrade to Sequoia when your MacBook isn't supported. Also I agree with you that it might make sense for Apple to prevent people from upgrading their OS to the latest one if your computer is old. But only if your computer is 10+ years old, not 5 years old. Even the iPhone XR (launched in 2018) is getting iOS 18 and people replace their phones way sooner than they replace their laptops. Laptops should be supported for at least 50% longer than phones.

I'm not giving a dime about macOS Sequoia or the new iMac because they don't have the power of RTX 4090
@ChromiumProtogen426 күн бұрын
Why are you here then? Apple is never going back to Nvidia, they don’t even support Nvidia GPUs in the Mac Pro Intel as they stopped supporting Nvidia GPUs in general through software. And with Apple silicon Macs you can’t even do AMD GPUs (which are supported on Intel Macs officially) so you’re not getting E-GPUs anytime soon. Maybe someday you can use an external AMD card over thunderbolt but as of right now you’re gonna be SOL. But also the M3 and up has hardware Ray tracing support baked into the SOC so you may get outperformed soon.
@randomcomentator6 күн бұрын
@@ChromiumProtogen42 Because I still use the entire Apple ecosystem overal, laptop included. However, my desktop is the PC tower and I am not going to return to iMac or Mac Studio anytime soon. Perhaps never. I require at leasat 12 USB-A devices connected, and a few more USB-Cs. I tried 3 high end hubs and none of them can sustain it, each one overheats or breaks. Mac Pro is ridiculosly expensive for what you get and I'm not spending 3x my top tier PC to get some PCI slots for the additional USB ports, especially when that Mac Pro is no good for anything requiring true GPU - AI inference and gaming. I like the idea I am not limited by anything on Windows, everything works, even software from 20 years ago. I still have Macbook Pro and use it when I need a laptop, but it wasn't suitable in the long run for regular work in clamshell mode.
