@@OrchardForex a script that syncs automatically the changes made in the MT folder on your desktop or laptop, with the MT folder installed on your VPS would make life much easier for us traveling traders with a lot of internet downtime (no access). Is this even possible?

Glad I could help. One thing to note though, the script will create start menu entries but they only show if there isn't already an entry pointing to the same executable. Windows doesn't show 2 entries pointing to the same thing.

That's unusual but as long as you are connected to a valid account just right click in the market watch window, select symbols and add as many as you like.

It's not part of the path. /portable is a command line argument. It will make MT store files, experts etc in folder under the installation instead of in a hashed folder in appdata.

I installed to C:\MT\MT5 or C:\MT\MT4 for the demonstration but you can choose any folder you like.

It sounds like you might have missed a step somewhere. Check the 2 desktop shortcuts, they should each be pointing to different folders with your 2 copies of metatrader. If they are pointing to the same folder then that is why you only get one copy running. The easy fix is just to run the script again to create new shortcuts. In the end you should have 2 folders containing MT (created by copying one folder to another, and make sure you didn't just create a shortcut to the other folder) then 2 shortcut icons, one pointing to each fodler.

You can do it with a dll, shared files, publish to wen and read back, trade copy program, ...

You just want to run 2 different accounts. Isn't that exactly what this video is about?

After you make the copy changes don't replicate. If you really want the indicators and experts to be the same on both copies then try using mklink to point the experts and indicators folders on the second copy back to the original.

Not exactly the same global variables. GVs are stored in a file and you might be able to get them to share the same file but there would likely be conflicts because this is not expected. What you could do instead is store your information in a file and use symbolic links to point all instances to the same file, then manage conflicts yourself.

@@soundinducedflow I haven't done any testing but I expect GVs are faster as they are in memory and saved to file by background processes. The question of NOTICEABLY slower depends on what you are doing but in most cases I would say not.

@@Url_jay I was just trying to open several instances of MT4 on the same machine and have them all use the same stored variables to have lines at the same places based on decisions i make on any given instance. It does work having used the idea from Orchard Forex

If you are using MT to do the copy then just the usual. More RAM, more cpu, don't run extra indicators, MT5 might be able to run more copies.

The easy way would be to write to a shared file, or you could use message queue. Assuming both are on the same computer.

Not su much weird, by design. Default behaviour is to use the guid based folders for storage, as a security measure. The guid folder actually contans a file linking back to the installation but for some reason MT doesn't add a link the other way which is what annoys me. It's a secuirty measure because the usual installation is inside Program Files and according to MS you shouldn't store data there. /portable tells the app that this installation may move to another computer so needs to keep the data close. If the default behaviour doesn't bother you then go with that and let MT create the guid folders. You can always take the step of creating your own links form the program folder to the data folder if it helps.

This will let you set up other accounts but you will need to add the code to copy the trades.

@@tolulopesoyemi2914 This just lets you run 2 accounts at the same time. Once you have 2 accounts running you can find a way to copy trades between them.

I don't have a mac but copying the MT folder to create a new installation should be the same. I think the mac equivalent of the shortcuts is an alias but I don't know if the /portable works there. That's about all I can offer.

I can't confirm. The script won't work but you should still be able to just copy the MT folder.

I said in the video that this was windows only.

It would not be the same user experience, more limited, but if that's all you need then try it.

Number of monitors is irrelevant to instances of MT

I haven't tried this with a mac but I don't see any reason why the technique for copying the Metatrader folder would not work, just make sure there are separate copies of the executable and any configuration files. But I doubt the scripts I used would work on a mac, they are very windows environment specific.
