I always found these old school 80/90s car chases more exciting and adrenaline pumping than Fast and Furious and Need for Speed. Real cars that could take abuse, not just fancy sports cars
@obeseperson Жыл бұрын
The fancy sports cars are real cars too dude, some of them are just a bit more fragile than others. It’s a tradeoff you take for more speed. Don’t just write off an entire genre, why not enjoy these old chases AND some of the new chases?
@GuineaPigEveryday Жыл бұрын
Action thrillers or action in general just kept ramping up from the 70s into 80s and 90s and then in the 2000s onwards has slowly become shit again. Mad Max Fury Road was great but beyond that i think its just James Bond and Mission Impossible that manage to recapture the well-choreographed and well-shot car chases. Fast & Furious is for general movie-goers, any fans of action know there’s so much better out there than CGI bland car mashing

Carey Loftin (stunt driver for Steve McQueen in Bullitt) was the stunt coordinator on this movie. He was like a father and was driving mentor to Cliff Cudney, my late husband, who was the limo stunt driver in this chase scene. Greg Elam was Gregory Hines' stunt driver in this sequence, as well as all the other stunt doubling for Hines in this movie. Those were fun times. It was also a blast to be in Chicago at Christmastime when the Bears were in the Super Bowl

In the movie Octopussy, Bond is going down train tracks in a car. General Orlov sees him and says, "follow that car!" Now you have two cars going down the train tracks. When Billy Crystal says that line in this movie, he sounds just like the general. Even though the cars don't go onto the tracks until later in the chase, I think Billy was referencing Octopussy.

Several. The first part of the car chase, they were on CTA’s Skokie Swift (Yellow Line). It’s the only CTA line where they have overhead wires and pantographs. They could also be on the old Howard-Englewood Line (now the Red, Brown, Purple, Pink, and Green Lines). This movie was filmed in ‘86, and the CTA didn’t have the color lines till around ‘93.
@MA-wq2ih4 жыл бұрын
First was the Skokie Swift (entered at Oakton Street, Skokie), then the North Side Main (into the subway south of Armitage and back out at Roosevelt Road, with an interlude filmed in the Lower Wacker Drive "subway"), then the Ravenswood (Brown) Line around Division Street south through Chicago Avenue, then the Wells Street and Van Buren segments of the Loop.

@@WhisperingOaks118 I first visited in Chicago in 1990, and studied that map intently. When I went back in 1999, not only had they adopted the color scheme, but I had saved 10 tokens from my previous visit -- and it was that very weekend that they switched over to the cards! I managed to use most of the tokens, though, and save one as a souvenir.

@@MA-wq2ih If you're right, then LaSalle/Van Buren was a very busy site in late 1985, because the key scene near the end of Planes, Trains and Automobiles was also filmed there.
