@@notvex3987 I bought a 125 year old piano that "was in someone's basement" from a thrift store. That someone turned out to be a school teacher who was a pianist and taught piano for longer than I'd been alive when I bought it. I'd wager thousands of children and adults had played that piano before it got to him, and maybe hundreds found a joy for music, and then dozens went on to pursue something greater with music and expressing themselves through a piano. My $200 thrift store piano that lived in a basement for a decade was in-tune, in good repair, had mostly original hardware, original ivory and ebony wood keys, and the soul of a hundred-thousand amateur musicians across it's greater centennial lifespan. I'm the proud owner of a relic, and I get to show my affection for it.

@@Blueskies2513 mainly because they are old. The strings have aged, and the soundboard will vibrate less good. Also there have been some inventions in piano technology since then which give pianos their distinctive clean tone

My grandmother had a piano that was beat up like this and needed to be retuned, it was an octave lower. My grandfather got rid of it when she passed sadly. It was a beauty though

The second most beat up piano is mine Every note is out of tune, you have a 20% of a note working when you press it, not to mention that on some notes it sounds like you are holding the right pedal but you aren't, and it's a player piano so you have to take care of boxes of scrolls like your a mage. That last one is a slight upside since a real life mage sounds pretty cool

My grandma's piano was bought In the 1970's and in 2009 there was a flood destroying the piano most of the keys weren't working even worse all the E keys are broken and not working and some of the keys broken also
