Mike Comstock I been watching so many of these reaction videos featuring Rush and I am shocked and delighted at number of young black people grooving on them. I got into Rush in early 80s. It was impossible to find too many people who were into them much less fellow black folks LOL! Only other black person I know that liked Rush was former Montreal Expo first baseman, Warren Cromartie who became good friends with Geddy Lee and was paid homage on back cover of Signals album. Back then Rush were HATED by music press and had little or know exposure. I’m happy to see almost 40 years later my fellow Canadians finally getting props they deserve.

One thing that I loved about seeing them live, was the generations present. Had floor seats to R40, the guy next to me was my age (50s), he had his 25 year old son and 7 year old grandson with him. You see folks that grew up with them and young people that only know they newest work.

can`t get The Garden out of my head these past few days. Clockwork Angels was the perfect goodbye album for the band. Neil wil never be forgotten R.I.P
@justinwaller73394 жыл бұрын
My eyes tear up just thinking of the lyrics to that song. I knew it was their swan song, their final message to their audience, the very first time I heard it (which would have been the day the Clockwork Angels album went on sale). Just about the whole album. When I heard "I wish that I could live it all again" on Headlong Flight, followed by Wish Them Well, I started thinking "this is a 'goodbye' album". And then The Garden.... I hoped for more but I figured that was the end. I saw them in San Antonio for the Clockwork Angels tour and then had to work the last time they played in Austin. I don't think there will be another band like them in my lifetime.

Neil"s drums, Alex's guitar riffs, and Getty Lee's distinctive voice were an unbeatable combination. Just three guys, but they could put out the sound! They were also funny. Before each show, each tour, they would sometimes make a weird funny video to show the audience. On their 40th anniversary tour (the Time Machine tour where they started with their newest songs and went backwards in time to the end of the show), they had a funny video of them (as funny characters) in an isolated bar watching a young polka band playing called RASH (same logo, but A insead of a U). I had to get a RASH shirt after that. People at other concerts I go to still love the RASH shirt.

"Moonrise and thoughtful eyes starting back away me from the window beside. No fright or hindsight, leaving behind that empty feeling inside." Staring out the window of a Greyhound bus, I recognized exactly what Geddy was singing about. "My ship isn't coming, and I just can't pretend." So many years ago, so many ships have sailed for me, so many chapters. And Rush has been with me over all these years. Still as meaningful in 2020 as it was in 1980 when I discovered their music. Thank you for this!

Rush is brilliant...you know this was Neil's early style of drumming. Look at Rush videos around 1994/1995, Neil holds his sticks totally different. Neil decided at age 42 to re-learn his already magnificent drumming style. Master of his craft!

When I got the news of Neil's passing I was trying to think of a lyric he wrote that applied to how I felt. After a while, a line from "Nobody's Hero" (another song worth reacting to!) came to mind: "When I heard that he was gone I felt a shadow cross my heart..." Rush wasn't a band that a lot of people got, but they were my heads house band! Neil will be greatly missed but his legacy lives on in those of us that were inspired by his words and playing. RIP Professor!

Rush disbanded in 2015, following their 40th Anniversary Tour (R40). Neil was absolutely done with drumming, citing exhaustion and tendinitis (unknown at the time if his brain cancer was part of it all). Alex (guitar) was succumbing to arthritis. Geddy (bass/vocals/keyboards) wanted to keep going in some way, shape, or form. Hope was held out for an occasional reunion of the three somewhere down the line. Maybe an "unplugged" tour of small theaters and clubs. If one day Alex and Geddy rejoin forces it certainly won't be as Rush. When Neil died, the Rush we knew and loved from the 2nd album on died with him. The new direction and freakish talent he brought to the table in 1974 (replacing founding drummer John Rutsey) preemptively rescued the band from almost-certain obscurity had they continued in the spirit of their debut album which, while good, presented them as just another Zeppelin wannabee of that era.

17th reaction. Great start only about 1 album's worth of songs. Only 43 more albums to go! Long Live Rush! Prayers for Neil's family especially his young daughter only 6 years old. Jell-o Neil had been married previously yet in a tragic year in 1999, he lost his first wife to cancer and his first daughter to a car accident. It took nearly 5 years before he or the band was ready to regroup. Geddy Lee stated in an interview their priorities changed the moment that happened and the "band" was secondary to Neil's health and wellbeing (rightfully so)

Every time I hear this one it takes me back to the 70's in Southern California, when So-Cal was a great place to live !

Early Rush was more power trio than prog. I like it.

Can't get enough RUSH bro This band were a notch above right from the get go. You nailed it 'no other band like this' God bless Neil Peart

Between Alex's bangs and Neil's supreme mullet, I don't know which is more awe inspiring. This is such a killer tune and album. You can really here Neil's Keith Moon influence on this one in my opinion.

Rush actually called it quits a few years ago, when their 40th anniversary tour finished up. Neil Peart was dealing with tendinitis and Alex Lifeson has arthritis. If you get a chance, watch the R40 concert bluray. It’s one of their best performances IMO.

It's like they took Beethoven, Bach, and Mozart and made a Rock Band. You should check out side one of Hemispheres and In the End off FLY BY NIGHT. KEEP THE MUSIC RUSHING BROTHER MUSIC LOVER.

They were inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame in 2013 by Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters, Nirvana. The induction and acceptance speeches are pretty entertaining followed by a great performance by Rush.

In a time now where looks trump talent. the guys from Rush will always be better than anything today.

Rush wrote 175 songs, so you still have a long way to go. But I’ll be watching every one. It’s nice to see and hear other people get rush. Their so underrated. I’ve been a rush fan since March 1st 1974 I was 10. I was old enough to get them and young enough to go on a 46 year journey. Great reactions! Looking forward to your next Rush reaction!

I've never seen this video. I was smiling the whole time. Little baby Rush. Neil's drum kit was even little baby. Lol

The best fans can hope for is that Geddy and Alex will do something....Alex is doing studio work for bands and he is enjoying it from what I hear. Thanks for appreciating a band I've been following since the early days of Fly by Night album....the 80's albums "Grace under Pressure" and others are the transitional of their music....when they introduced "synthesizers" to the sound. Geddy's area.

RIP Professor Gedddy shredding the bass as usual. He is very underrated. I can hear his bass line through this entire song!!

Not to dis Geddy, but he's hardly underrated. He's at or near the top of every rock bass list I've ever looked at. Easily one of the most influential bass players of rock music ever. I've never, ever heard anyone say otherwise. And he gets all that praise just for his bass playing. Add on top of that the singing, the keyboards, the pedals (all at the same time) and then he's at another level altogether. Probably one of the most talented rock musicians ever. Honestly, the only one in Rush I think is underrated or overlooked is Alex. But there's not a serious guitar player that I know who doesn't praise Alex. He just doesn't have the same level of recognition with the masses that Neil or Geddy have.

We'd smoke a wee bit too much on occasions (imagine that) and sing " Ride My Bike " throwing in any lyrics could think of on the fly.... those were simpler times for simpler minds but we'd laugh our asses off. Rush was not a popular band back in the late 70s and 80s and finding others who listened to them was reason enough to be friends because they understood what so many others failed to grasp, they are a once in a lifetime band. I was really looking forward to seeing them after they got bored in a few years... maybe Neil's kid would fill in .... until then boy's...

Wow Scottie you described exactly what it was like to be a Rush fan in late 70s early 80s , when you found someone else who were into them it was an instant kinship.

I recall in 81 or 82,goin to the Spectrum in Philly to see them. My bud and I sporting faded Levi jackets with freshly painted Rush album covers on the back... Fly by Night on mine and 2112 on his... we were 15 or so,never told our parents. We left Long Island on our journey and had a fantastic time jumping train to train and partying. There were hundreds of us by the time we got there and Philly rocked hard for 3 hours that night... We left with 30.00 and made it home okay....

Just waiting to hear Rush on the radio was torture. Thinking, what's wrong with these people. Do they not know how great they are. I was 18, on a job site in 83 when I first heard a Rush song on the radio in N.Y. it was this song, no longer would they be the best unknown band around.

Thanks Jamel for sharing such a great band as RUSH. Luckily They've made numerous great quality Bluray dvds of their concerts so you can get the feel of a live concert.
