I know 80s RUSH gets maligned sometimes, but "Power Windows" is still my go to CD. It has a fuller sound than GUP. Neil's snare never sounded so good as it does here. It's an enjoyable listen, with solid songs, and should get more credit than it does.

I love all Rush, but 80s Rush is my personal favorite. I have a playlist that’s just everything from Permanent Waves through Roll The Bones(technically ‘91 I know, but it fits right in with Presto haha)

Agree with you both. In my opinion, the performances, arrangements, and writing on PW are timeless and the album is a rich, satisfying listen. Not everyone shares that opinion, and that's okay. Personally I tend to gravitate through various periods of the Rush catalog over the course of time, which to me is part of their appeal. Not too many other artists demonstrate that level of evolution and willingness to go in different directions musically. As such, I am always reluctant to pick a favorite/best album, player, band, etc... but that is just my 2 cents. Thanks for posting this great interview, very enjoyable to hear.

PW is my favorite Rush album , yes even above Moving Pictures. It has an emotional connection with me, thanks to Neil Peart's incredible lyrics. I feel these were his most accomplished lyrics in the discography. Musically it combines raw power with beautifully ethereal soundscapes. They perfected a sound they started on GUP and mastered electronic technology without being cold or inhuman. In fact it's very PRO HUMAN music and feels even more relevant today than 1985. Loved hearing this interview. Anyone notice how many female Rush fans were on the line? You always hear women dont like Rush and all their fans are men. I think this disproved that claim. 🤭🎸

I agree, love the vibe and sound of this album. I connect with PRESTO the same way. It was their first album in years that I immediately loved a lot. That intro to Show Don't Tell hooked me hard right away. Played the cassette in my car endlessly for a long time. Power Windows was more of a grower for me, but love it now, I like it best of those three mid 80s albums

No one can deny that Moving Pictures is a classic, but "Witch Hunt" always felt a bit like filler to me, as sacriligious as that sounds. Power Windows has zero filler. You can tell it took them months to write and record.

That women seemed smitten with Geddy. Very sweet. Anyway, Power Windows was an album that had to grow on me. I had grown up listening to "harder" Rush (2112, Hemispheres, Moving Pictures) and completely side-stepped their late-80s period. To quote Neil: What a fool I used to be. Power Windows (along with Presto, another grower) became the soundtrack for my long bike rides around town. I found a vinyl copy at Goodwill years ago and now I toss it on whenever it's overcast, or the air feels electricty charged. My ultimate point is that you get back what you put into a Rush album, tenfold.

Amazing I recall catching this entire interview listening to Q107 from Buffalo as my love for this band was growing. Saw PW and many more tours at the Aud, SPAC, MSG and other venues over the years.

Power Windows, to me, is their Magnum Opus. I totally passed on it when it was released. The rock meathead I was at the time wasn't into synth/keyboard stuff, so I dismissed it. Here I am almost 40 years later, and cannot get enough of PW. Beautiful record, amazing production and great songs that still hold up now in 2023!

Omg, thank you so much for posting this. I used to have this on cassette (I recorded alllllll those interviews with them). Brought back a ton of memories. This was the first Rush album I bought on the day of its release and it remains among my favorites of their entire collection. Fantastic album.

I have every rockline they did on a usb stick from 1984 to snakes and arrows. 22 appearances i think and i learned so much about them. Biggest thing i learned is geddy really was the primary driver of the band. Even against alex’s and neil’s wishes, geddy was the one that pulled them in the synth direction. It wasnt a mutual band decision. Also learned that neil was very stubborn in the studio and did have a bit of an ego. He was ok with geddy changing lyrics but wouldnt allow the other 2 to change his drum parts much. He was very protective over what he put together on the kit. Would never know this if you didnt hear these rockline interviews.

It’s AMAZING all the female fans that call in on these shows/you’d think a lot more would have been at those shows earlier on.
