Jackie does all of his stunts, however you're probably right about the harness and such. In China, they insurance is different than the US and in the hr States, they definitely had stricter rules. If you feel like it, you should check Cinebinge's reaction. George is Chinese and he has some good insights of Chinese filmmaking . Also, blinging red lights are the same as a stop sign i believe

The taxi man - “Judo” Gene LeBell, is a legend. He’s known as the “Godfather of grappling” and trained Bruce Lee as well as Ronda Rousey. The scene in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood where Bruce Lee got messed up by Brad Pitt’s stuntman character was loosely based on the first meeting between Lee and LeBell as LeBell had become a stuntman and showed Lee how easily he could beat him up. He’s one of the earliest known MMA fighters as he had high level training and accomplishments in many different forms of martial arts and put them to use. There’s also a legendary story of him putting Steven Seagal to sleep on set and making him shit himself 😂😂

Flashing red lights are treated as a stop sign in the US. I think its the default setting as lights go to this after blackouts and at certain hours of the night in lower populated areas.

3 parts of this movie that really make me crack up laughing are: 1. When Carter starts dancing like Michael Jackson in the middle of the street after blowing the car up 2. When Lee and Carter are bonding and practicing disarming techniques while Edwin Starr's song "War" plays in the background 3. When Carter says "I know that ain't the bomb. Get that bomb away from me!!" towards the end And trust me, the blooper reels for the remaining two movies are just as funny when it comes to the slip-ups with the dialogue. Also, RIP to Elizabeth Peña (Johnson) and Tom Wilkinson (Jun Tao)

Gene/De Niro is the stuntman that the whole once upon a time in Hollywood Bruce Lee fight scene was based on. Of course, it was nothing like the movie depicts. Gene, who was often called the godfather of grappling, became a good friend of Bruce after being brought in to knock Lee down a peg or two for being too rough with the stuntmen. They ended up training together after Bruce realised his tool belt was lacking when Gene grappled him, picked him up and wouldn't let him go because Lee was screaming, "Put me down or I'll kill you." To Gene's credit he quickly replied, "I can't put you down, or you'll kill me."

Amazing that this was 25 years ago. After Lethal Weapon finished it's franchise, Rush Hour was the next Buddy Cop phenom around the corner. Jackie Chan, the world's biggest action star looking to make a bigger impact on American audiences. Chris Tucker of ATL, Georgia was among the young 'up and comers' in the comedy game with stand-up and a few films. This was not Jackie's first film with an American studio. He made 4 other films (1980-1985) and although with moderate success, he wasn't quite a star to American audiences yet. But by the 1990s, his films were on video and cable while certain notable films were being re-released into Americans theatres:Rumble In The Bronx, Supercop, Jackie Chan's First Strike, Operation Condor, Mr. Nice Guy and The legend of Drunken Master. dir. Brett Ratner signed on after working with Tucker in Money Talks (1997). Tucker was not the original choice for James Carter. Wesley Snipes was the closest to being involved and ended up making BLADE (same summer). Chan & Tucker turned out the action comedy of the year with great chemistry, good sequences and laughs. The Def Jam soundtrack was one of the biggest of the decade. Legendary composer Lalo Schifrin with another great score. RIP to Elizabeth Peña (Detective Tania Johnson), Philip Baker Hall (Captain Bill Diel), Chris Penn (Clyde), Judo Gene LeBell (Taxi Driver) and Tom Wilkinson (Juntao). Your gonna love the sequels and don't miss any of those outtakes.

I didnt get more than half the jokes and didn't quite understand the plot but I loved the movie. 9 year old me thought this was the funniest thing ever at the time. Now Im older and get the jokes. And actually know what "rush hour" is.

They’re talking about movies that are not Chinese 🤣. As in foreign for Jackie Chan. Also, the term foreign film sometimes refers to a country and sometimes a language. Officially and colloquially. For example, UK movies are rarely considered for the International Feature Film category at the Oscars (, I’m going to assume you’re American,) because they are mostly for foreign language films. English-speaking countries would have an advantage because they have no language barriers and can choose from the American actors pool, too. The voters are more likely to vote for a movie they understand and whose actors they are familiar with.

I'm not exactly fluent in any of the Chinese languages, but Ni hao mah means how are you? Why would the daughter say that to her dad if she's scared? wouldn't calling his name and saying help make more sense? I guess ni hao mah was the most recognizable Chinese phrase to American audiences, so they went with that line, but in context, it makes no sense. She's not going to say that if she's been kidnapped. Obviously the screenwriter didn't know what that phrase meant.
@VJP8464
@VJP8464 Ай бұрын
She said ‘你還好吧’; ‘ni hai hao ba?’ Which is more like ‘are you still doing alright?’, ‘are you ok?’, etc. I guess it is still a little weird given the situation that she would be the one asking him that, but I guess it was just meant to show that even in danger she was more concerned about how he was feeling than herself and was trying to calm herself down by saying something less frantic I don’t think they really meant for any phrase to be recognizable to a western audience anyway, seeing as how many Chinese lines in Rush Hour 2 also went untranslated since I guess they decided we could just get the gist of what they were saying by the situation

My fellow dudes... Of all the Jackie Chan movies to choose from, you go with Rush Hour? Thats like going out for a fresh fillet of coral trout or red emperor and electing to grab a microwaved Mcfish burger. Its canned orange American cheese. Pick any of his old classics, blindfolded. Theres Drunken Master p2, Armor of God, Meals on Wheels (oh yeah with benny the jet!), Polics Story, Half a Loaf of Kung Fu, etc etc ad nauseum. Lets not go out to see Furiosa on the big screen, , lets instead choose Bad Boys / Fast & Furious part whatever the f. End rant. :)
