Well thats awkward watching my favorite reviewer not getting the sheer musical genius of my favorite band playing my favorite instrumental but Rush was never mainstream, it wasn't something you could dance to because of the myriad of time changes, or play along to because of how incredibly difficult this piece of music is to perform. Rush is next level, music for musicians, and these three guys were the very best at their chosen instruments and that's what endeared them to their legion of rabid fans for over four decades. The best power trio ever and arguably the best live band as well. I miss these guys so much especially these days where people sing their autotuned crap to prerecorded schlock and pass it off as music. These guys were the real deal.

As soon as I saw the song, I knew you wouldn't care for it much. This is back in the day when we used to sit around listening to highly complex songs that winded their way through multiple key and time signatures. I'm a multi-instrumentalist, who's been playing Rush, Zep, Floyd, etc. for many a decade. You'd either have to grow up with this music or be a musician from that era yourself. Certiainly not for everyone.

Best Live Performance RUSH - Xanadu - Live In Montreal 1981 (2021 HD Remaster 60fps) Alex Lifeson - 6 string guitar, 12 string guitar, pedal synthesizer, volume pedal; Geddy Lee - Vocals, bass guitar, 6 string guitar, foot pedal synthesizer, electric piano/synthesizer; Neil Peart - Lyrics, Drums, orchestra bells, tubular bells, wind chimes, crotales, timbales, timpani, gong, temple blocks, bell tree, triangle, and melodic cowbells. Based on Kubla Khan (Xanadu) by Samuel Taylor Coleridge Coleridge composed his poem, ‘Kubla Khan’, in a state of semi-conscious trance either in the autumn of 1797 or the spring of 1798 and published in 1816. The whole poem is pervaded by an atmosphere of dream and remains in the form of a vision. The vision embodied in Kubla Khan was inspired by the perusal of the travel book, Purchas His Pilgrimage. Coleridge had taken a dose of opium as an anodyne, and his eyes closed upon the line in the book, “At Zanadu Kubla Khan built a pleasure palace.” But this opened his creative vision, and the poem of about 200 lines was composed in this state of waking dream. On being fully awake, he wrote the poem down. The theme of the poem is unimportant. It describes the palace built by Kubla Khan, the grandson of Chengis Khan, the great rule of central Asia. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/aMipna2cs8XSho0.html

RUSH is awesome! Epic, as are many of their tunes, they just have a knack for interesting instrumental interludes. Another to consider is Xanadu, a 70s masterpiece that is just as good live as studio, check it out, you will be smiling by the end! Great to see you again and hope you are enjoying your musical voyage. I know I enjoy seeing you and other reactors having fun with all kinds of great music from yesterdays. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶

@@mlinderict I 100% agree. And IMHO the best live version is the "Official Video" of them playing live in '78 on the soundstage. The live Pink Pop video would have been the best if it had been the entire song as Alex plays that solo to perfection with both feel and aggressiveness.

Na you're thinking about Xanadu. Geddy said in the documentary Beyond the Lighted Stage that they spent 11 days trying to lay it down in one take but finally gave up and recorded it in three parts. Of course by the time they took it on tour they could perform it even better live and towards the end of their careers in the Time Machine tour they were so at ease they could play around and have fun with it. 😊

Thanks, Angela, for giving your honest opinion. I like this song, but it took a few listens, just like when I first heard early 70s Yes. I bought Classic Yes on cassette because I liked Your Move. Started playing it and my mind didn't know what to make of it. I figured, oh well, a wasted purchase and put it to the side for several weeks. Well, I gave them another shot and they grew on me and then I bought all their albums.

This Canadian band sounds somewhat like the UK band YES! That is when the vocals are implemented! This song itself just drags on! Doesn't light my fire! Later! I can tell by the expression on your face that you don't dig it that much either! You're a trooper, and I really admire that! I can imagine me having a You Tube channel! The natives and savages would tear me to pieces, but I don't want to find out! People can be viscous and mean with their words! I'm done, goodbye again!

Come on how could you not feel blown away by this I feel like you just don’t understand it. I don’t think you understand the amount of talent and musicianship it takes to be able to pull off a song like this. But here’s the thing I know for a fact that chicks really don’t get the whole thing with rush. The truth is Rush’s fans are 90% male dominated. It’s because chicks don’t understand or get progressive rock. It’s because it’s not music that chicks can fucking dance too or shake their ass too. And that’s the kind of shit that pisses me off because it’s music like that, that is ruining and destroying the integrity and the brilliance of music. I hate to come off as a bit of an asshole but it’s just I have very strong feelings about this stuff. And not only that but I’m very passionate about rush it’s a passion that was passed on to me for my father. I think you should just keep listening to rush nothing but rush so that you can get a full clear understanding of them or at least try too. And if you can’t then it’s your loss. I think you should check out another great Rush masterpiece the camera eye.
