Neil Peart is the most "busy" drummer I've ever seen in my lifetime. He don't just keep a beat like a lot of drummers do, he is constantly in motion hitting his high hat, working it with his foot, and using all the other cymbals, rolling on the toms, changing the beats, etc. I didn't really pay attention as much as I have since he passed, but lately I have really been listening to a lot of Rush and watching their videos, and paying particular attention to Neil's drumming. He was a beast on the drums and in my opinion he's the best ever.

'Subdivisions' is THE SONG of my life. It changed EVERYTHING I thought about music and being a musician! My Dad gave me the 'Signals album for my 16th birthday in 1982. I had heard of Rush, but I hadn't caught the BUG yet. Some songs have to grow on you, not this one! From the second the Keyboard started I was in AWE!! When I looked at the sleeve of the record and only saw three men I couldn't believe it. This song made me a Rush fan for life. Geddy Lee's mind blowing Bass playing made me a Bassist. It taught me that not every song has to be in 4/4 time or about SEX, DRUGS, and ROCK and ROLL. It made me a better song writer. I have owned ALL of their studio albums and love all of it, but 'Subdivisions' will always be MY Rush song!! :)

Exactly, mine too, when I hear it I am back (in my case 1985, when I heard it first) the intro turns back time into my innocent teens, when I was exploring music, and this made me buy all Rush records, I just started from the first one. I become guitarist and have great respect to their creativity, now I see how complex and evolving their music is. One of these bands you just can listen to over and over. Pink Floyd is another (but I wish they were as good musicians as rush in the beginning)

What makes a drummer go from good to great? It is not his technique or his speed, because there are hundreds of drummers with those requirements, but greatness, how does a drummer become that? Well, with the impact it has on the lives of other people. Neil Peart not only created a drumming style that influenced drummers around the world maybe more than any other, he influenced people who don't even play drums! Neil Peart is more than his drumming, he is more than the spectacular solos, more than rythms that no one had played before, more than incredible fills that are a superb mix of taste and timing. He is a mirror as a drummer in the whole expression of the word for so many people, that he only can be remembered as one of the greatest drummers in the history of music.

Since I was born in 1973 Rush has always been one of my favorite bands and this is one of the baddest ass rock-n-roll songs of all time. It is what I would call classic rock for my generation and pretty untouchable by today's standards. I think it is insane how talented they are. Alex Lifeson is an underrated guitar player & one of the best ever.

Neal is brilliant. He is a master of timing, and he called it flawlessly: Go out strong. Leaving good memories. Thank you, Rush.

Neil was unbelievable. Amazing drummer. He and Max Weinberg the best that I saw

Thanks Troy, I can't believe that 8 years have flown by so fast and more than that, the events since then. In the Heaven that I believe exist, you and Neil have a had a conversation or two about philosophy amongst other things... Thanks for taking me to this show... This was the last time that I would see you or Neil in person... May God bless you both!!!

What a towering piece of music this is. It works equally well as social commentary and musical genius. How they keep everything together with such irregular time signatures beats me. I can't think of another band with such talent.

I'm impressed with Rush fans ability to discern the song in what seems like a fraction of a second!

I have always listened to Genesis, Freddy Mercury, Phill Collins, George Michael among other great singers, but this group of three Canadians were each amazing in their talent. I never tire of listening to them over and over again.

RIP Neil. I wish I had a chance to meet that guy while he was alive. I can't fathom how a man who was a hero to others on drums decided to go out and take more drum lessons. But its apparent in his playing how good he wanted to be.

Southbound on the 400 in my 83 Celica GT watching the sprawl of the city lights grow bigger as I go. The high-rises start to fill the horizon in the night time haze. Hearing this song come over CFNY. Memories.
