@@owenb7823 Just different. I'm 63 and been listening to them since I was a young teen. Always bought the new Rush and ZZ Top albums day one. But no way is Rush Better. ZZ Top is the greatest blues rock band of all time. Rush is the greatest prog rock band. I often listen to both still. Why the need to bash others or be a homer for only one band? God bless Neil and Dusty. And to me, both are second to Led Zeppelin. What I rock era I grew up in!

I grew up in the 70s with bands such as Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Lynyrd Skynyrd. There has never been a band as talented as these three Canadians. They lived their lives without drama and just made amazing music throughout their career. Thank you for being a role model of how a band should be.

Neil Peart is the most "busy" drummer I've ever seen in my lifetime. He don't just keep a beat like a lot of drummers do, he is constantly in motion hitting his high hat, working it with his foot, and using all the other cymbals, rolling on the toms, changing the beats, etc. I didn't really pay attention as much as I have since he passed, but lately I have really been listening to a lot of Rush and watching their videos, and paying particular attention to Neil's drumming. He was a beast on the drums and in my opinion he's the best ever.

‘Be cool or be cast out’. This is the quintessential song that represents Rush’s unwavering passion for integrity, honesty, and being yourself. To think your own path. I went over this song with my kids who were at just the right age to relate their world to the ideals of this piece. I think a lot of parents owe a thanks to Rush for this masterpiece.

As Geddy plays the opening keyboard riff and the crowd starts to cheer....I got a chill and just started bawling like a baby. I was not a concert goer. My brother had to pay for the tickets AND literally twist my arm to get me to go to see Alan Parsons Project [my second favorite performing artist] in Las Vegas way back when. I wish...I wish I had taken the cash and the opportunity to go see RUSH just once. But, alas, these videos will have to suffice. 😪

'Subdivisions' is THE SONG of my life. It changed EVERYTHING I thought about music and being a musician! My Dad gave me the 'Signals album for my 16th birthday in 1982. I had heard of Rush, but I hadn't caught the BUG yet. Some songs have to grow on you, not this one! From the second the Keyboard started I was in AWE!! When I looked at the sleeve of the record and only saw three men I couldn't believe it. This song made me a Rush fan for life. Geddy Lee's mind blowing Bass playing made me a Bassist. It taught me that not every song has to be in 4/4 time or about SEX, DRUGS, and ROCK and ROLL. It made me a better song writer. I have owned ALL of their studio albums and love all of it, but 'Subdivisions' will always be MY Rush song!! :)

Exactly, mine too, when I hear it I am back (in my case 1985, when I heard it first) the intro turns back time into my innocent teens, when I was exploring music, and this made me buy all Rush records, I just started from the first one. I become guitarist and have great respect to their creativity, now I see how complex and evolving their music is. One of these bands you just can listen to over and over. Pink Floyd is another (but I wish they were as good musicians as rush in the beginning)

The willows in the breeze are still there, as is the lighthouse and (newly re-constructed) pier. And now they have a new *Peart Pavilion* named in his honor at the park - a beautiful facility. Rush definitely has songs with over the top schemes and bigger "musical statements" but this song is just so clever. The changes between sections really push the song along and create a sense of urgency. Best example of 80s Rush to me .

I agree - only because this track introduced me to Rush and I'd have a list as long as my arm if I tried to pick my 'other' greatest songs. I'm big into Marathon at the moment though - our only pure 'rock' station (Planet Rock) has an afternoon DJ who's Rush bonkers and plays it a lot when I'm on the school run. My five year old son knows the chorus and sings along.... he's gotta learn the rest now.

What makes a drummer go from good to great? It is not his technique or his speed, because there are hundreds of drummers with those requirements, but greatness, how does a drummer become that? Well, with the impact it has on the lives of other people. Neil Peart not only created a drumming style that influenced drummers around the world maybe more than any other, he influenced people who don't even play drums! Neil Peart is more than his drumming, he is more than the spectacular solos, more than rythms that no one had played before, more than incredible fills that are a superb mix of taste and timing. He is a mirror as a drummer in the whole expression of the word for so many people, that he only can be remembered as one of the greatest drummers in the history of music.

Great comment and I agree 💯. His sound itself was SO big and unique, and was SUCH an integral part of everything Rush was, that he is absolutely irreplaceable . Peart, Bonham, and Palmer - in no particular order - are my all-time best 3 rock drummers. There are scores of other great drummers, but those 3 were/are in a league of their own.

Since I was born in 1973 Rush has always been one of my favorite bands and this is one of the baddest ass rock-n-roll songs of all time. It is what I would call classic rock for my generation and pretty untouchable by today's standards. I think it is insane how talented they are. Alex Lifeson is an underrated guitar player & one of the best ever.
